I noticed that my performance in every second match of the day is way better than in the first match.
especially when it comes to aiming with very accurate weapons.
do you (need to) warm up ?

I do a Silver game to warm up before hitting the Gold circuit....you gotten loosen up them twitch reflexes..so I take a character I don't really use often .with a common / uncommon weapon that I am only using for it's challenge points...such as..Collector Assault Rifle...Viper....I never use anything over-the-top on Silver...but .I do equip the level 1 consumables that I have no use for..aka: explosive ammo & targeting VI
It takes me 2-3 waves to warm up.

2-3 games maybe

Yeah 2-3 games when it is very laggy alien conditions, but if the there is no lag or I am playing on my own host the first 2-3 waves I don't go too hard & save my best for the later waves when there are more high scoring enemies to kill. Especially wave 7 onwards.

you should be going hard all the time
you should be going hard all the time
Words to live by.
On topic, everyone knows it's time to turn up once you get the first one out of the way.

It does not work like that. You have to pace yourself otherwise you will run out of equipment way too quickly. I have always tried to play correctly without compromising the scoring and the best strategy that works for Platinum and Gold is to be a little bit conservative in the first 3-4 waves so that I have all the equipment saved up to go really hard in the last 6-7 waves. Sometimes this can backfire when there is too much lag and my gun becomes almost useless when trying to hit rubberbanding enemies with small hit boxes in the earlier waves. Against big bosses rubberbanding is not an issue since their hit boxes are really big and its hard to miss them.
All things considered it is certainly much more satisfying outscoring a good player in unhelpful conditions than outscoring them on my own host.
It's not necessarily the first match of the day that I need warm-up time for, it's the first match after switching characters. It takes anywhere between a wave and half the game. Just now, I spent the first wave of a game forgetting that I'd switched to a character without Tactical Cloak, pressing the triangle button at all the wrong times and Havoc Striking when I didn't want to ![]()

Same here. I almost always go down at least once on Wave 1, and often 1-2 times on Wave 2. It's embarrassing. After that, I tend to settle into a groove and do a lot better.

i don't follow. i try to kill as fast as possible waves 1-10

This seems to be a common theme. I seem to notice people doing that a lot as well.
I do go down, a lot, but it is usually later in the match. I'm usually pretty fine for the first few waves, then I start getting a little too lax and usually get taken out from behind, or misjudge the level of damage I am taking.
Waves 1-9 are a warm up, anyone who is decent at this game knows the match doesnt start until wave 10/11
Oh yeah. I blow my missile load all over wave 11.

Me too but there is a lot a strategy involved instead of just mindless killing. For example character selection is another thing if there is too much lag you might want to ignore squishy kits, projectile powers and slow high powered weapons otherwise things will become even more harder than it needs to be.
Warm up? I need a cool down not later than wave 7.
I don't usually have a "warm-up" game, per se, but I almost always start with a kit and a gun I'm really comfortable with my first game. If I'm going to experiment, it's going to be later on after I've played a few.
It kinda depends for me. I'm more of a guy who just has good days and bad days. Usually more good than bad but sometimes you just have one of those days where you feel like you suck at everything regardless of what kit you pull out. Generally, on most good days, I warm up within a wave or two with any given character if it isn't one I play a lot. I try to play everything pretty regularly but I have my go-tos.
Well, I know that for GruntKitterhand and me, waves 1-10 are just one long warm-up for the main event...
...wave 11 spawn missiles and rage gels.
But we know how to party - not everyone does.
You, sir, are what is known as a very bad influence. ![]()
I always take a couple of waves to get into a rhythm with the Crusader and Javelin, because of the firing delay and trying to gauge how much lag I have to deal with. Other than that, switching to similar but slightly different characters will always result in excessive whatthefuckery, usually toggling powers on and off by mistake. I'll also confess to rage-gelling on wave one in approximately 90% of the games I've ever played. None of that encourages me to 'warm up' in any way shape or form, although it probably should.
I usually warm up on platinum with a rage-gel in wave 1 then remember I have to RHA a lot more than I want too.
