I prefer high power single shot over weaker rapid fire. Hence liking widow over bw

In this context, the widow is my preferred weapon on the HumEng.  

 

Quickscoped body shots either kill mooks outright or setup a lethal tech burst with overload.  The jav and kishock can't quickscope very well and and the kishock suffers mightily due to lag.  

 

Alternatively you can strip with overload first and then kill with either a body shot or headshot depending on the enemy.

 

The reload timing is nearly perfect with overloads cooldown time, so I can spend the majority of a match alternating between shooting and overloading.  Long range incinerates are reserved for atlases for the fire combos and phantoms for the bubble freeze.  This is why I like the Widow over the BW for this kit and tactic.  The three shoot magazine has no synergy with his cooldown.

 

tl;dr, learn to widow.

I love using it. It's not an objectively terrible weapon like the Collector Assault Rifle or Vindicator after all. Good way to practice your fundamentals and explode heads.

 

Incidentally, it's also one of the only ways I enjoy playing GI.

 

I feel the weapons in this game are generally very well balanced.

This I can agree with. With the wide debuff and speed penalty of recon mine, the black widow is superior on the DAI than a widow would be. That being said I still prefer the javelin on him. I like being forced to really focus in on accuracy and precision whereas the black widow allows me to lazily sling out shots without as much of a penalty. So I suppose preference is ultimately determined by psychological factors. Both sides are right depending on perspective and that's why I feel the weapons in this game are generally very well balanced. To each their own.

 

With my aiming skills, I'll take the build that lets me lazily sling out shots 

 

You're right though - the BW, Widow, and Javelin are all great weapons.  Just different.

It's a great gun, there are better, but why would you just use the same weapons all the time.  Using different weapons is fun, and improves you as a player.
