BioWare, do NOT underestimate the soundtrack of your future games

Since ME:A is the first of those future games I'll put it here.

I'm listening soundtracks of DA and ME series and it brings me so much nostalgia. Then songs from DAI starts play and that comparsion makes me really sad and sorry for what DAI got.

BioWare used to be very good and careful in the matter of their OST. It used to be amazing or even mindblowing (ok, that's maybe too personal opinion, but it was really good). I can be reconciled with DAI being more ambient then it's predecessors, but when you listen the OST out of the game... it's obvious that Trevor Morris wasn't the best choice. And not just a bad choice of a composer. The OST wasn't even implemented well. When wandering, it was almost always dead silent. And when the music finally started it pulled me out from playing how random it was. Even in cutscenes there was that silence - so many times! Only parts I recall being kinda awesome in DAI is while fighting at the Wardens Keep, the Dawn Will Come part and maybe the final talk with Solas in Trespasser DLC. Hell, even standing in the tavern and listening to bard's songs was better than most of the game (speaking about the OST).

So, BioWare... look back (and most importantly LISTEN) to your previous games, when there was almost no silence and if so, it served to some purpose. And don't save money on finding and hiring great composers like Inon Zur, Sam Hullic and Jack Wall are. We appreciate them and their work.

I'm looking foward how Mass Effect: Andromeda will end up. Hoping for best :)

it's not just Bioware. Blizzard made the same mistake with Diablo 3. D1 and D2 have one of the most epic soundtracks in gaming history. then they hired some no-name composer for D3 and to say the soundtrack is lacking is the understatement of the century.

here you have an evil-looking otherwordly dungeon (Zoltun Kulle's Archives).........and what do you hear? sad violin music like it's a wake or something.

PS: Zoltun Kulle is voiced by Steve Blum (Grunt) :P

I could not disagree more with the original post. Also there is nothing 'obvious' about DA:I's soundtrack being inferior, considering Trevor Morris has a lot of fans, and just as many people like the work he did for DA:I as there are people mourning Inon Zur's departure. Opinions on the soundtrack are divided, which probably isn't all that surprising, considering tastes in music can diverge so greatly.

I think Dragon Age: Inquisition's soundtrack was far superior to that of the previous two games in that series, and is the one area where I think DA:I was a huge improvement over the two games that came before it. Unlike the Mass Effect series, I've always thought the soundtracks for Dragon Age were rather weak and not memorable at all, and outside of a track or two was never a fan of Inon Zur's work for the series. I'm hoping Trevor Morris remains for however many games the DA series has left in it.

My only complaint with DA:I's soundtrack is that you hardly ever hear it. Someone, somewhere, made the bad decision to have the experience of exploring the game world largely be a silent one, other than the sound effects of the enviroment. That becomes boring after a few minutes. I think the open world exploration might have felt a little less like a slog if there had been more ambient music while roaming.

Everyone has diffent tastes. At least we can agree on that bad implemention of the music into the game. Even though I don't think the OST was better, it's a shame it was heard so little.

^Couldn't agree more.  Of all DAI's deficiencies, the music was definitely top notch.

Opinion does not equal fact.  For every person that does not like something there will be people that do like it.

DA:I had a great Soundtrack. Especially Corypheus' Theme, god, that was awesome. He was kinda of "meh" as a Villain, but that Music made me cheer every Time he was on Screen.

Sorry, but I cannot agree with your assessment of DA:I. DA:I's soundtrack is, far and away, better than anything in the first two games (which, except for a very few exceptions, were utterly forgettable).

Anyway, ME's music is always totally different from DA, so I'm not sure there's much to worry about there.

I haven't really liked ME's soundtrack, I mostly remember annoyingly loud club music and ME1's title screen music that is awful.. sorry not really a fan.

DAI's was just forgettable, nothing special.

DAO and DA2 in other hand, I love many tracks from those.

Mass Effect's original soundtrack was so amazing, I bought two CDs.  Mass Effect 2's was good, worth a download, and 3's was ok.  As a trilogy, I'd say 8/10.

I hope Mass Effect Andromeda's would blow me away the same way ME1 did.

Yes. This is why an equal number of people like and dislike diarrhea. And bad breath. And morbid obesity.

Well... are we discounting fetishes and cultural differences?

You do understand what 'equal' means? There's not an equal number of 'fetishists' to balance things out. Nor are there an 'equal' number of cultures that like bad breath and obesity.

I don't really notice music much because I'm focused on my actions and listening for ambience that might tell me something of use.

Inon Zur is not a good composer either, he basically just does 3 seconds of generic music and puts it on a loop for a few minutes.

this is more like what I would call a good composer. more for DA than ME, but he did a really good job on witcher so I don't think he'll have trouble finding work for cyberpunk, or even other developers

I have to add my voice to those who liked the DAI soundtrack. Well, liked isn't really doing it justice, I actually loved it. So many great tracks - the main theme, Journey/Return to Skyhold, Thedas Love Theme, The Dawn Will Come, etc. And the DLCs kept the same high quality, with Trespasser maybe even surpassing the main game. Every single track in that DLC was fantastic, especially We Fight On and that other piece of music which I won't name due to spoilers.

In short, DAI OST:

As for MEA, I don't think we have much to worry about. The ME soundtracks have always been great, from the opening track in ME1 to the closing track in ME3, so I'm confident that they will keep that up.

OSTs:

KOTOR: 8/10
ME1: 8.5/10
DAO: 6.5/10
ME2: 8/10
DA2: 5.5/10
ME3: 9/10
DAI: 8.5/10

IMO, IMO.

Seeing this legitimately makes me angry.

I would not allow a writer (or anyone with significant pull on what goes on in the narrative) who acted like this to work for me.

As much as I rag on DAI, I have to say that the soundtrack was better than DAO and DA2. The previous 2 games were bland. DAI's soundtrack had more emotion to it.

For MEA, hopefully it is more like ME1 in terms and less like the action-focused soundtrack of ME2 and ME3.

DA:I has a sound track(s)??

Except for some major intros, the game is silent.... while exploring and visiting the cities.  Yes, it was done deliberately..... but cannot fathom why.
