Since ME:A is the first of those future games I'll put it here.

I'm listening soundtracks of DA and ME series and it brings me so much nostalgia. Then songs from DAI starts play and that comparsion makes me really sad and sorry for what DAI got.

Do you mean to tell me new music didn't make you feel as nostalgic as old music? Shocking! BioWare needs to do something about this.

AGREED 100%

I loved Inon Zur's work in Origins and DA2. His work really caught the atmosphere and tone of the universe and made it unique. Then, he gets the boot for Morris who gave DAI a completely different direction music wise. It was very generic and typical high-fantasy.
(Props to Beth for keeping him on board for Fallout 4. Check out his piece the Lost Mariner)

MASS Effect 1 had the best of the soundtrack in the trilogy but overall the Trilogy soundtrack was absolutely incredible and proped up the game above and beyond.

Everyone has diffent tastes. At least we can agree on that bad implemention of the music into the game. Even though I don't think the OST was better, it's a shame it was heard so little.

True. The soundtrack implementation was terrible. Random 10 sec clips for ambient music and the reused dawn will come theme.

And perhaps I would have a higher opinion on Morris if his work was implemented better.

Longer and varying ambient music for different regions would be more welcome instead of quiet 10 sec clips. Not to the extent of Witcher 3's looping music but more how music was implemented in Origins and Mass Effect Trilogy

I haven't really liked ME's soundtrack, I mostly remember annoyingly loud club music and ME1's title screen music that is awful.. sorry not really a fan.

DAI's was just forgettable, nothing special.

DAO and DA2 in other hand, I love many tracks from those.

Did you....did you say ME title screen theme "Vigil" was awful?

I don't even...

I agree with the intent of the post, but DA:I's soundtrack was goddamn amazing. The problem with that game was music barely played during exploration. A mistake I hope they don't repeat with ME:A.

As someone who listens to video game soundtracks an insane amount, I can confirm that the soundtrack is indeed quite important. I can also confirm that the OST for DA:I was not on the same level as DA:O, it’s all slamming aimless epic clashing stuff that you hear in Hollywood without much melody or engagement on that level. Even though Inon Zur’s OSTs had that kind of wailing thing going on (which was still kind of cool honestly), there were lots of solid and melodic and engaging stuff in there that still retained a kind of epic feel.

"Chantries Hubris” for example which is like the 3rd song off the DA:O OST I think you can hear that kind of solid main theme come in that I think surfaces a few other times in the game at key moments.

The only song even remotely like that from DA:I was “The Inquisitor” which had just a tiny sprinkle of melody, but was really almost minimalist for the most part.

it's not just Bioware. Blizzard made the same mistake with Diablo 3. D1 and D2 have one of the most epic soundtracks in gaming history. then they hired some no-name composer for D3 and to say the soundtrack is lacking is the understatement of the century.

here you have an evil-looking otherwordly dungeon (Zoltun Kulle's Archives).........and what do you hear? sad violin music like it's a wake or something.

PS: Zoltun Kulle is voiced by Steve Blum (Grunt) :P

Yeah Matt Uelman was amazing.. the Tristram theme in particular is very iconic.

Amen, I have the feeling most game developpers forget the power of certain music and what kind of ambience and character it can bring to a game. I will also always remember the sound of Neverwinter Nights 2.

You know, what does Music consistently well? World of Warcraft. Say what you will about that Game, but it has produced some TRULY memorable Pieces of Music. I will always feel awesome when I hear that Stormwind Fanfare flare up.

I've enjoyed all the soundtracks in BioWare games to varying levels. They always seem to do a good job regardless of who the composer is.

My like for the OP goes for the mysterious but still dynamic background music from the first Mass Effect.
I need more like that. I had mixed feelings about the Johnny Cash song. I did like it but I was missing those electric sounds so much.

I'm not too worried about this. I felt that the OST of the Mass Effect trilogy got progressively better from game to game, and while I think DA2's OST is inferior overall to Origins', I think Inquisition's is better than both by a mile.

This is not what I meant nor even what I wrote. I'm saying DAI OST makes me fell mostly negatively about it. Especially, in contrary with the previous ones.

Does it really matter? I think that BioWare is generally very strong when it comes to their games' soundtracks.

DAI, SW:Kotor, and the ME trilogy all have great soundtracks. DA:O and DAII had a decent soundtrack, but to me, DAI was an improvement.

That game's soundtrack was composed by the legend Jeremy Soule.

Actually, I wonder why Morris over Soule for DAI? Of course, Inon Zur should have been contacted for DAI but it is what it is.

Some of Soule's best work was in Total Annihilation Kingdoms. Look that games soundtrack up, it is full of atmosphere.
Specifically the Taros themes

Jeremy Soule is indeed awesome, up there with Koji Kondo and others perhaps less known as favorite video game composers. Secret of Evermore was my first exposure to him way back when and it's still really an intense OST.

I've always liked both ME and DA scores. And I loved DAI soundtrack

The thing with Bioware, is that they don't really make masterpieces when it comes to music, compared with other franchises, but they do their job for the most part with the ocasional gem. And whoever mentioned the lack of love for the John Cash song count me in. I hate Johny Cash, but it's just for the trailer.  :)

that's an instrumental re-iteration of the ME1 finale paragon/renegade music, and the ME2 conclusion (where the Reapers are seen approaching the galaxy's edge).

and also this :), how can anyone not love this?
