Someone made the bad decision to make the exploration portions of the game largely a silent experience,
I imagine this decision went down something like this.

The music is very important for me. DAI ost I didn't hear alot of during the game. So I would say BW's sound design and implementation is extremely important.
Ambient, atmospheric music, and banter, were things I took for granted in other BW games, until DAI. The tone of the ambient music is what really sets the stage for the experience, and what can make you immediately reconnect with the feeling later.
Trevor Morris was ok. When I heard the big moment pieces, they were nice enough. But it was the near absence of any music (and banter) in the rest of this, very lengthy, game that kind of killed the experience for me.
Inquisition's soundtrack has some nice themes buried in there but I didn't hear them for like 98% of the game.
The Trespasser and Descent scores were the best. Those and the one brief song you hear during the battle in Haven.
DA2's soundtrack wasn't anything, I agree.
Whoa! No way!
DA2 OST was incredible.. then there is Inon Zur in general who is just amazing

Well, now that you mention it, yes, I will even say DA2 is fine. Way superior to Inquisition that is.
Look, the Dread Wolf/Dark Solas theme from Trespasser is incredible. I'm obsessed with it. But guess what, I only heard it in like 3 scenes. Everything else is empty. What dafaq. It's not even the composer's fault - I'm sure Trevor Morris is great. But he's absent! I don't hear anything the majority of the game!!!
I think that the effect of Dark Solas would have been sapped if it played everywhere. It's the same thing as the big set piece scores in DA:O that only play for major points in the story, like how Ferelden at War plays at the battle for Ostagar and just about nowhere else, and the epic part of Chantries Hubris playing during the march on Denerim's gates in the endgame, which again, never really plays anywhere but that scene, which enhances it. Most everything else is atmospheric on a continuous loop, like that Orzammar music or the camp music.

That actually started to get on my nerves. Typically, I dislike music that plays on a continuous loop. I eventually stared to dislike the Normandy music in ME1, and was super glad that it went away and was replaced by the hum of the ship and beeping of consoles in ME2 and 3. Even the Citadel music throughout each level was made more subtle, which I was also glad for. I prefer music to be stronger when something dramatic is actually happening. Like, if the music that played during the battle of Haven played for everything from an enemy faction onslaught to roving bandits, it'd kill the effect.
You know, I found out the fight scene between Kai Leng and Thane have the same drumming beat as in the final scene where you have to choose an ending.
I like what Bioware did to the music in their game in general. My current favourite OST was their KOTFE theme.

I was just going to link that Kofe theme but yes it has to be one of my favorite main themes in a video game.
Yeah and I heard the Orzammar music in the background constantly. I heard background music in every dungeon, constantly. The Brecilian forest and Dalish camp themes were also unique and distinguished, and they played all throughout those areas and added much to my memories of them!
To the op im pretty sure they havent since dragon age inquisition had a pretty solid soundtrack.
My impression is that Inon Zur wasn't dropped from DA:I because of money issues, but rather that he was dropped because of 'creative differences'. I.e. the game producer and lead designer wanted the music to go in the 'generically boring epic fantasy movie' direction and Inon Zur has a very different, very distinctive sound for the Dragon Age universe.
I can't disagree with their decision either. Dragon Age: Inquisitor is a generically boring epic fantasy game, therefore the generically boring epic fantasy music is perfect for it.
Personally I think the music Trevor Morris did for DAI was much better than the music Inon Zur did for DAO and DA2. Both those games had a couple really great pieces, but everything else wasn't anything to celebrate. Meanwhile DAI had much more memorable and great pieces.
Can we stop moaning about DAI's quite good soundtrack and talk about the ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING ME2 sountrack that set the bar so high I doubt another Bioware game will match it
Every time I finished Mass Effect's ending then returned to title screen. Every time I listen to Vigil just made me want to start a new playthrough again. IT IS AWESOME.
While some of ME3's cutscenes don't have any soundtrack. Like when Joker maneuvers Cerberus fighters when going to Grissom Academy, or Geth and Quarian's spaceships fighting around Rannoch.
All previous games' soundtracks are great. Just don't leave any important cutscenes without soundtrack.
Bring Faunts Back!!!

I hope there's some kind of choice either way, especially on our ship. Similar to how you can have music playing in Shep's cabin or not. I really like ambient music in the background (I don't tend to notice it looping), but I wouldn't want other people to be forced to put up with something that annoys them.

Suicide Mission track aside I thought ME2 had by far the weakest soundtrack of all 3 ME games.
Bioware I feel do not put as much love into the soundtrack to their games as they once did in my opinion.
CDPR soundtracks on the other hand I feel are doing it much better these days compared with TW1 soundtrack being okay overall, TW2 and TW3 stepped it up a lot and those soundtracks were amazing. Bioware with DAO was quite good from what I recall but DA2 the only decent track was the final one by Florence and the Machine at the end called Liar, DA3 was mostly silent from what I recall playing it music wise with very rare exceptions and those exceptions were not even that memorable too. ME1 had a great soundtrack to the game, ME2 was pretty good and ME3 was just okay for most of it with couple track exceptions which were quite good.
I thought Faunt was kinda odd way to end ME1.... their music didn't fit the overall tone for the game.. the transition from Jack Wall's techno-orchestra to space rock with some guy mumbling... meh. But of course, they need local talent.... cheaper
Uncharted Worlds and Vigil need to return, in some form.
I'd be cool with the rest of the soundtrack being original though.
Pretty much, yeah.
I would like a similar experience with Shepard's theme as well. It was that simple couple of bars that kind of encompassed the backbone of the entire trilogy. And man, was that theme used really well. Think about it, the core of the main theme serves as the backbone of the Spectre Induction, the Suicide Mission, Leaving Earth, The Fleets Arriving, and the End, Once and For All, the same bars, same pattern, hightened or softened based on the action in-game.
It's one of my favorite, unheralded aspects about Mass Effect that links those themes together on it's own emotional journey.
I want that, in Andromeda. Or at least, something that will make Andromeda it's own series in the end. A carry-over theme that ties them together.
