On part I agree with OP, on part I very disagree. IMO Inquisition had by far the best soundtrack of all 3 games, DA:O and DA:2 had pretty boring standard fantasy stuff soundtracks outside selected few tracks, DA:I on the other hand at the second half of the game had amazing tracks one after the other: Adamant Fortress, Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts, Temple of Mythal, the final battle, Descent and especially Trespasser. My problem with DA:I, as well as ME:3 is that it is far too silent, it made the games at times feel dead. ME3 for example had much superior soundtrack to ME2, but ME2 felt much more alive.

Wait, ME3 silent? That's crazy talk. The game doesn't really have exploration so there's few opportunities beyond being inside the Normandy for Shepard to go about without a soundtrack playing. During missions, any sequence that doesn't have a soundtrack playing will likely have some other audio, like a character over the comms or one of the companions or Shepard making comments.

The Mass Effect games have always had good soundtracks. The soundtrack is probably the area I'm least concerned about going into Andromeda. We're in safe hands with Sam Hulick at the helm.

DA was more of a mixed bag, and as far as soundtracks go the far weaker of the two series. (mainly because of Inon Zur, IMO)

Suicide Mission track aside I thought ME2 had by far the weakest soundtrack of all 3 ME games.

Not if The Arrival DLC soundtrack is included. Best in the series. The work as a whole develops smoothly and beautifully.

Though I prefer to post stuff like this.

Honestly I am quite fine with ME's past soundtracks.

Quite much so

My favorite will always be The Long Walk, it takes the motif of the suicide mission and turns it into something even better, something that builds into an epic, then cools down...

That track brings back memories of running with Samara and Thane in the suicide mission. My preferred Collector assassins.

Samara's recruitment mission is made of some memorable and mysterious music too. The touch of Lisa Gerrard inspired vocals gives that feeling of an ancient being. ME2's soundtrack is the best.

DAO, ME3 and DAI had the most consistent soundtrack overall; ME 1&2 have some very specific tracks that are better than half of those albums, tho.

Yeah mostly talking about the base game. Overlord also had some great music.

Citadel DLC have the best music mix in ME3.

But I like what they did in ME3. The music was there for a reason and the use of silence and adding layers of background audio work for the game. Like how the hospital sounds calm and peaceful and then there's a lot of people muttering in distress or crying in pain as time goes by. Priority: Vancouver was great too. Reapers booming, ships getting shot from the sky, people screaming in fear, sounds of people firing their guns.

Even Priority: Earth was great (if people would stop whining about the ending for a second). You're in a city of dead people and there's a war going on. You hear the sounds of fighting from a far, there's eerie echo and people calling for help or being killed over the radio then the music came when you're in a fight and faded. So much more layered than the one at Collector base where you hear echoes, insects fluttering and muted screams.

Can we stop moaning about DAI's quite good soundtrack and talk about the ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING ME2 sountrack that set the bar so high I doubt another Bioware game will match it

This.

EA, just send Jack Wall a suitcase full of diamonds and get him back on board. He's not the greatest composer if all time, but he knows Mass Effect better than anyone.

That's what I thought too when I first saw that post I responded to.  ;)

Mind you, I'm not saying it was bad. I just thought ME3 and ME1's soundtracks were better.

Like this.

But in the terms of media, it's a meaningless opinion in some sort of fashion because it boils down to personal taste.

I thought ME1's soundtrack was quite a snoozer. I think a lot of people have nostalgic attachment to it because it was in the first game of the series. I really liked ME2's soundtrack was awesome and fit the action movie genre of the game. ME3's evoked emotion and struck the right notes at the right times. The Suicide Mission track was perfect for what it was.

Since ME:A is the first of those future games I'll put it here.

I'm listening soundtracks of DA and ME series and it brings me so much nostalgia. Then songs from DAI starts play and that comparsion makes me really sad and sorry for what DAI got.

BioWare used to be very good and careful in the matter of their OST. It used to be amazing or even mindblowing (ok, that's maybe too personal opinion, but it was really good). I can be reconciled with DAI being more ambient then it's predecessors, but when you listen the OST out of the game... it's obvious that Trevor Morris wasn't the best choice. And not just a bad choice of a composer. The OST wasn't even implemented well. When wandering, it was almost always dead silent. And when the music finally started it pulled me out from playing how random it was. Even in cutscenes there was that silence - so many times! Only parts I recall being kinda awesome in DAI is while fighting at the Wardens Keep, the Dawn Will Come part and maybe the final talk with Solas in Trespasser DLC. Hell, even standing in the tavern and listening to bard's songs was better than most of the game (speaking about the OST).

So, BioWare... look back (and most importantly LISTEN) to your previous games, when there was almost no silence and if so, it served to some purpose. And don't save money on finding and hiring great composers like Inon Zur, Sam Hullic and Jack Wall are. We appreciate them and their work.

I'm looking foward how Mass Effect: Andromeda will end up. Hoping for best :)

Not worried about OST, ME3 OST is simple fantastic.

My favorite OST song was probably something from BG1, which I later learned was actually taken from some 1980s.. movie which dampened the impact somewhat, but.. I guess. still.. sorta

For original OST the forest song was pretty nice

Funny enough I do think too that ME2 had the poorest soundtrack with ME3 being okish.

ME1 is hands down the best soundtrack for me. If I hear any of ME1 music I immediatly recall the franchise while ME2 I still can't remember a single track from it. As you can see people enjoy different things and their perception of what is memorable vary from person to person. People aren't wrong because they like different music

Or perhaps a more humble bet is that some people simply like synth music more as ME1 wasn't a ridiculous Michael Bay action movie but a deeper space opera. Interesting to notice how everyone almost agree that the most characteristic ME tracks were Vigil and Uncharted Worlds....both of them are incidentally ME1 original tracks....

Also did anyone else catch the riff/sample of this one in one of the SWTOR original cinematics? Pretty nice!

Tbh, Mass Effect needs more heavy metal. There was a stark lack of headbanging and guitar shredding in the original trilogy.

"Duel of the Fates" is one of my favorite pieces of music from any soundtrack. Ever. "Installation 04" from Halo: CE Anniversary and "The Trail" from The Witcher III are right there with it.

The Force Awakens' soundtrack was beautifully composed, but it didn't have a showstopper like Duel of the Fates.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled program.

I wasn't feeling most of the synth stuff from ME1. I collected the albums from all of these games, but ME1 easily has the poorest selection of the bunch to me. Vigil, the Mass Effect Theme and Uncharted Worlds are the only ones that I would say stuck.
