ME need Bear McCreary....

For a trilogy around a space marine, Mass Effect 1 and 3 is missing militaristic beat... some of it seems like random placement in the soundtrack and the most prominent was only late in the game like

Spoiler

I do like ME2's music even if some of it was derivative from ME1 music (like romance beats). It definitely did the rogue Spectre feel right. But what was missing was a recognizable Cerberus theme (which just relegate to TIM theme)

Agreed, so important. In fairness I don't think it's likely they will - I feel the sound for ME in the past has been one of its most excellent aspects. I remember repeatedly listening to the opening sounds of Mass Effect when I first played it, they were kind of great.

Well Infiltration from the Stealing Memory DLC is still my ringtone, so I am a bit biased towards the ME2 soundtrack.

For me there are two important aspects a soundtrack needs to meet. Being appropriate for the situation and being diverse.

So no Hevy metal songs when you crawl around an empty cellar and no generic fantasy/sci-fi soundtrack.

Final Fantasy OSTs usually have a little bit of every single genre withouth appearing out of place. Something similar would be nice for Andromeda.

Intro screen must have the vigil theme.

Please Bioware, don't underestimate the soundtrack of your future games... not that you ever did in the first place! ;)

Everything there is on par with the industry's highs of music IMO and the best DA ever had outside of DA:O's main theme by far.

No way. ME1 is nostalgic enough. Both ME2 and ME3 had fantastic intro music that really set the tone and anticipation as well. ME3 still gives me the shivers.

One thing I'd fault Inquisition for is the lack of a continuous ambient track during exploration. DA:I's soundtrack is the best in the series so far, but it's just too sparse out in the wild.

No, they totally got it right in that regard. The Witcher 3 for example (as always) was poorly designed in this regard because the music was always on repeat making you tired of it after 50 hours of hearing the same 2-3 tracks per location loop without any room to soak in the nature of the world.

DA:I's problem is rather that it did not make enough things happen in the different exploration zones. Everything felt dead and artificial and not suitable for supposed open-world exploration which made it feel completely dead whenever there was no music. Some more birds flocking, dynamic weather, day/night systems, NPC routines would've given it what it was missing. Not the music because if it had music all the time you'd go nuts with the amount of time you spend exploring in that game.

I'm not so sure.

Skyrim, for example was able to do ambiant music and battle music quite well...they also had like 3-4 tracks at a time that rotated for it. So it is feasible.

I actually consider this a rather good thing. Where Inquisition actually bugs me is the frustratingly long intervals between banter sequences, at least that's my experience on the PS4 (which is ironically not so much a problem on PS3).

I had a Star Wars movie marathon recently and recognized a lot of familiar music in SWTOR. But the only moment that feels odd was on chapter 8 when the skywalker theme came for my Sith...... a Sith...

I haven't really liked ME's soundtrack, I mostly remember annoyingly loud club music and ME1's title screen music that is awful.. sorry not really a fan.

DAI's was just forgettable, nothing special.

DAO and DA2 in other hand, I love many tracks from those.

Wow. I used to just let the game sit on the opening screen for hours at a time with ME1 just for background ambiance. It is synonymous with the entire concept of ME for me and hearing it is downright Pavlovian where it comes to generating new interest and excitement for new titles. It even worked after ME3 and the mandatory multiplayer debacle that had me swearing I'd never play another Bioware game. Heard something similar at the end of one of the Andromeda trailers and I was right back eager.

And the club music was awesome in the first two games. Enough so that I listen out of game and only wish the songs were longer instead of being made for short loops. But I am a confirmed EDM fan and love anything that sounds like it would be played in a Tron/Matrix or space environment so clearly I am biased.

Either way I don't see Bioware suddenly forgetting about the music given the consensus love for what they've already done or at least the well established importance the fan base puts on it.

Well, I mean, there are Sith Skywalkers. You may know one, his name starts with D, and ends with arth Vader.

But which song is the Skywalker theme? Because I know Vader's Theme is called "The Imperial March", I wasn't aware that the family itself had a theme.

The Inquisition soundtrack was adequate.

The problem was that it almost never played during the actual game.

I still liked the DAO soundtrack better, though. I thought it fit the dark, yet vaguely hopeful tone of the setting.

This main theme is easily one of the best theme songs of any game, IMO.

Probably thinking of "Binary Sunset". I dunno that I would call that a "Skywalker theme" either, but I'd understand why other people would think that way.

I think of it more as the theme for the Light Side of the Force. It just plays in the background for a lot for stuff Luke is doing, because he's a Light Side force user.

Some of Inon Zur's work for DA was unique, but being unique doesn't automatically mean it is good. Watching the movie Ladyhawke will cure you of any misconceptions about originality always being a good thing.

Good movie, but dear God that soundtrack...

DAO and DA2's soundtrack wasn't quite that bad, but I think it sort of falls under the same category as the Ladyhawke soundtrack...unique but uninteresting.

The Trespasser and Descent DLC's probably have some of the best battle music in the entire series. Fighting through a darkspawn horde sounds so much better when played to this:

I'd put it up there with the likes of suicide mission, which did a pretty good job of masking some of the actual mission's deficiencies in the first play.

WHO DID NOT LOVE THE THEME FOR ARIA'S CLUB? I could vibe to that for hours non-stop. If anyone didn't, you have no soul.

I could not disagree more with the original post. Also there is nothing 'obvious' about DA:I's soundtrack being inferior, considering Trevor Morris has a lot of fans, and just as many people like the work he did for DA:I as there are people mourning Inon Zur's departure. Opinions on the soundtrack are divided, which probably isn't all that surprising, considering tastes in music can diverge so greatly.

I think Dragon Age: Inquisition's soundtrack was far superior to that of the previous two games in that series, and is the one area where I think DA:I was a huge improvement over the two games that came before it. Unlike the Mass Effect series, I've always thought the soundtracks for Dragon Age were rather weak and not memorable at all, and outside of a track or two was never a fan of Inon Zur's work for the series. I'm hoping Trevor Morris remains for however many games the DA series has left in it.

My only complaint with DA:I's soundtrack is that you hardly ever hear it. Someone, somewhere, made the bad decision to have the experience of exploring the game world largely be a silent one, other than the sound effects of the enviroment. That becomes boring after a few minutes. I think the open world exploration might have felt a little less like a slog if there had been more ambient music while roaming.

Yeah I actually liked DAI's soundtrack especially the dawn wlil come theme that pops up evrey now and then as you wander around.
