I believe star trek had a race like this, but they (the actors) had a bit of rubber on their foreheads to indicate to us that they are aliens and not human. Also that was before my time. What was the reaction back then? What would the reaction be now? What would change if the Klingons didn't have the rubber on the head dehumanizing them?
What if the ruling species of ME:A are human looking aliens and black?

I believe Klingons had a smooth forehead in the Original Series so the differences in physical appearances were somewhat minimal with it being beards, eyebrows and perhaps skin tone. I think Star Trek had the limitations of a television series budget and then technology so they had to work with what they could. even in the series that came after the original.
Personally I prefer aliens of different designs with some having very non-humanoid design like the hanar and some having a semi-humanoid design like the turian and drell to name two.

so the TOS appearance was because of budget constraints and not because of stupid viewership bigotry?
