Hey all, not sure if someone might have brought this up before but I recently replayed DA2 and thought it might be possible for Merrill to have been one of Solas's agents. Mainly due to her connections with the eluvians and her very similar [and ultimately correct] stance on elvhen history and the current state of her people. The other things that made me wonder was her exchange with Flemythal and one of the gifts you can give her.

Merrill: Andaran atish'an Asha'bellanar

Flemeth: One of the people, I see, so young and bright. Do you know who I am, beyond that title?

Merrill: I know only a little.

Flemeth: Then stand. The people bend their knee too quickly.

[...]

Flemeth: As for you child, step carefully. No path is darker than when your eyes are shut.

This is the scene where she explains the meaning of the ring and the story carved on it. She tells the story of Fen'Harel's betrayal and that the ring was made for a keeper charged with guarding their clan from the dread wolf.

I just wanted to put that out there as a fun possibility, I think seeing Merrill working with/for Solas would be interesting as I really loved her character and what she was working for. If you guys have anything to add please do!

She also said "By the Dread Wolf!" any moment you startle her in her home... Must be true

Mike Laidlaw apparently did say that Merrill fixing the mirror wasn't a good thing. Perhaps she finally does and then meets Solas.

Merrill can be killed in DA2, but then again anybody can be brought back to life in this game.

I am guessing Merrill's eluvian leads to a tainted area; in DAO that eluvian lead to an underground city and had something/one in it that saw Tamlen and subsequently Tainted him and the Mirror.

Well she did have an interesting attitude to spirits and demons.    I always thought she and Solas would probably hit it off on that subject at least.     So whilst I doubt she was actually one of his agents, I dare say she wouldn't be that fazed if he'd suddenly stepped through her eluvian.   Mind you she did have a different accent to the rest of her clan, the same root accent (Welsh) as Solas.   I noticed that his agent in the Inquisition was the same.

However, Merrill has developed friendships outside the Dalish now and was helping the homeless alienage elves get back on their feet, so I doubt she'd support any plan of the Dread Wolf that would result in everyone's deaths.

I never said it was, I just thought it would be an interesting possibility or at least a fun concept to discuss.

I think just about any Dalish would bow to Flemeth -- she (Asha bell'anar) seems to be revered by most clans even if they don't realize she's a remnant of Mythal. She has a whole clan do her bidding in The Stolen Throne.

I don't think there's any evidence to indicate that she's an agent of Solas (if she was she'd probably have a better idea of wtf she was doing with the eluvian fragment) but I could see her becoming an agent of him in the future now that the truth's out.

I doubt it greatly. Merrill's beliefs in the Dalish "gods" are of the strictly conventional variety. If she had been an agent of Fen'Harel, you would think she would be a little better informed.

Also, Merrill is a bit too much of a goof to be a spy. A beautiful, loving goof, but still a goof.

that may be true lol, ah well it would be cool to see her come back though, especially as a spy

I don't think Merrill is an agent of Fen'Harel (she's too proud of her Vallaslin for that), but I wouldn't be surprised if she's susceptible to become one if certain conditions (Eluvian fixed, clan killed/alive, Romanced or not) are met.

In a world state were Merrill fixed the mirror and maybe some other keep decisions I dont see a problem story-wise where she would by this time be a follower of solas. Solas rocking the foundation of her faith and her having his slave markings maybe he can mind-controll her or something either way it would fit the story if she did or did not so I am all for some decisions having negative reactions in the future. If we want choices to matter we gotta support the good and bad choices instead of having keep choices float around in it doesnt matter land.

I don't think shes a agent of Solas. But maybe he influenced her to fix her Eluvian an that's why she had such a strong desire to fix the Eluvian.

With Merrill as Solas' ally, the inquisitor doesn't need to lift a finger. Merrill will unintentionally screw up Solas's plans like a kitten with a ball of yarn.

Op....All I see is foreshadowing to Trespasser. He did just what he did to the elven gods and the Forgotten one to the Inquisitor and Cory.
