That's the spirit! I look and S-PoS II and I see XBone's library minus the great exclusives like Halo and Forza...

Then I look at PC and see Steam, AMD Zen, Phantom 3 towers and no signing fees for membership.

I am a fan of steam (Even the indie/greenlight scheme).

Another reason to switch to PC then. I can still play all my games on the newest machine, even the 20+ years old ones. :P

And they're all you can play unless you keep upgrading, making the expensive machine even moreso. And before you suggest building it yourself, before this laptop, which was an emergency purchase, I'd built every single computer I owned, and upgraded as things got cheap enough, and it was still not enough. And that was in Australia, things are even more expensive in Finland.

Nope. You can play the newest games on a three year old PC just fine. Since games are mainly developed for consoles, your PC doesn't have to be super high end, it just has to be better than the consoles. Which is easy. Unless you want to play in 4k or something unnecessary like that.

You can build a decent gaming PC for ~1000€. A PS4 costs ~450€. The PC wins longterm because you spend significantly less on games and you don't need a subscription. I own a couple hundred games but I didn't pay the full price for more than maybe a dozen. Also, the PC games continue to work no matter what and even when there is no support from the devs, the modder scene usually patches the worst bugs.

Longterm consoles will lose their marketshare to PCs again and Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo know that. This is why consoles have been gradually changed to mini PCs. If there is a next generation, they'll run Windows and a keyboard will be part of the periphery.

TL;DR Send me the €1000, because I sure as hell don't have that kind of cash laying around. Which you would be able to guess if you actually read my posts.

Ok, I actually did read, so I'll answer all your points one at a time.

Not buying a PS4 because of lack of interesting games, and as mentioned, PRICE, if €450 is expensive, how the hell do you think I would even consider €1000? What kind of upbringing did you have where that sort of money was frivolous enough that you'd double the cost of something expensive, and call it a better deal?

I don't pay a subscription, and I wont, not ever, I think people who pay a subscription to play games they already paid for are stupid. So invalid arguement.

I didn't pay full price for any of my games, PSN has almost as many sales as Steam.

I already run a keyboard on my PS3 for messages, it's just easier. I've been typing most of my life anyway, I still use a keyboard for many things most people use a mouse for. And the PC-ifying of consoles was the worst decision they made. PS3's amazing processor is what saved an otherwise lackluster hardware setup. I'd still rather the PS3's CPU than the PS4's, I consider that a major step backwards.

We could also go into how I've become increasingly disenchanted with PCs as a whole, especially MS and their junkware OS changes, or how Linux is so undersupported despite being otherwise amazing, but we wont, since you're clearly and firmly indoctrinated by the PC Master Race Cult.

Steam is really trying to blend the line between console and PC. I suspect those lines will blend even further and more effective/efficiently.

Gaming with a Keyboard/Mouse is just indisputably better for your capabilities and reaction times. They literally had to make a mini-game in ME2 harder on PC than they were on console due to the time-debt of console controllers.

12374826_10156255987580125_5961213462124

This mini-game was where me and my roommates found this out. On the same difficulty and the same Bypass, one roommate on her Xbox had to pair four. Me, and my two other roommates (I had a lot of roommates once upon a time...) had to pair six on our PC's. We asked a buddy of ours that actually worked on ME2 in Edmonton about it. He explained that they did take what he referred to as "Time-debt" into account using a mouse versus console controller for certain things like this. Hack on the other hand, wasn't penalized because the method to get around (up, down, left, right) took the exact same amount of time.

Most games I'd rather play on Kbd/M, it's just better. There are times where I prefer a controller though. Assassin's Creed was a great example. That game was so much more fluid to control on a console controller than it was on a keyboard. Each has it's place, but from a purely performance based measurement, Mouse/Keyboard are superior.

Comfort/ease of use are a different scale altogether though.

Economics. Projected expenses for console gaming are always higher than the expenses for PC gaming the moment you look beyond the first year. You can even soften the initial blow by buying your PC part by part, something you can't do with consoles.

I've got several machines here, some of which run virtual machines so all in all I can tinker around with 9 PCs, 5 of which run Linux. My main PC for private use is almost 4 years old and is able to run everything. Core I7, 16GB RAM, SSDs, GTX770 (can switch to SLI, if I take another machine apart) and so on. The moment it runs into a bottleneck? I can upgrade it again. There is absolutely no reason to buy anything expensive, there is no game that requires any current hardware.

I use my PC for everything btw. TV, music, internet, games... which means it's the only appliance in that category I own. That's where I got the money from. :P

No, it's pretty obvious that you have money, so you simply cannot understand my position, so it's just not worth talking to you. Come back and talk to me when you have spend half your life homeless, and struggled to climb back up out of it not once, not twice, but three times. "Economy" if a fancy word used by self-entitled people to brush aside the millions of people left in poverty for their gains. This isn't a cry for pity, or a shout of justice for all or any such cliche junk. This is a simple statement of fact, not everybody has enough up-front money to much such decisions, and going into debt will just make things worse.

PC will perhaps have a higher entry cost, especially if your current PC is a laptop.  But long-term it will be cheaper.  Consoles are like $500 now, and are trying to do everything that a PC does.  But a PC still does it all, and more, and does it better.  Once you get that initial tower built, it's smooth sailing for the rest of your foreseeable gaming career, as you simply upgrade a video card or a RAM stick, which is way cheaper than buying a next gen console.  And even that is usually not essential.

If you have access to a tech-savvy friend, a website like newegg.com or tigerdirect.com can get you a quality system for much much less than you would pay at a place like Best Buy, but you'll need that friend to help you pick out the parts and also to assemble it.  My current system was built for around $500 2 or 3 years ago, and will still be able to play everything that comes out for the next decade.  If at some point I need to upgrade, I will just slap in a new video card and be g2g.

I really don't see any reason to buy XBone or PS4 because I know a quality desktop PC can be assembled for that exact same price point.  It is safe to say that I will never buy another console again, of any gen.

And as for money, I am sick and disabled and living on a fixed income.  My father tried to kill me and make it look like an accident.  My sister in law accused me of stealing $100 from her bedroom and turned my own brother against me.  Most months I barely have enough money to get by.  So it's a good thing I invested in this PC.

I have the same problem with gaming mice. It probably has something to do with the fact my hands aren't exactly small.

I also have rather large hands, but I've never had any difficulty in using mice. I just rest the base of my palm on the pad and move the mouse around with my fingertips, rarely having to move my forearm at all.

Controllers on the other hand... they just feel like they're made for little children. It's practically impossible for me to relax my hand while using them.

Before this laptop, I'd built all my PCs myself. Upgraded them, and did the same for a lot of my friends over the years. I have no interest in PS4 or XBone. If I had the money, I would've already built a PC, since I use it for everything that my PS3 isn't doing, and all that does is game. I'm also pretty sure my laptop's life-span is pretty rapidly running out, despite getting it new, I've had problems since day one, and they have only gotten worse, probably also made worse by the lack of down-time that most laptops gets, only time this one turns off is to be rebooted, again made worse because one of its problems is cooling/heat. I'm just hoping it holds out until we can afford to replace it properly.

I also have rather large hands, but I've never had any difficulty in using mice. I just rest the base of my palm on the pad and move the mouse around with my fingertips, rarely having to move my forearm at all.

I'm a more "hands on" kind of guy. I can't just stick two fingers on the mouse and call that control. I need a giant fist-sized kind of mouse that I can fit into (and support) the palm of my hand. It's a comfort thing, and a mental thing. That's why I like this junky, battery eating thing we found here, I can use it much more than any other mouse I've had, but even that has it's limits.

I have a lot of problems with my bones and nerves that I'd rather not talk about here, but I will say that it impacts a lot of my comfort choices.

I like using mouses but oddly i prefer using a controller for third person shooters like mass effect, gears.and infamous. it's feels kickass when you gnasher a dude or unload the venom into a crowd of mooks with those triggers and stick. Controllers feel right when you play those type of games in my opinion.

A very low cost addition for a laptop used for gaming is a cooling stand that lifts the base of the machine off the table/desk slightly, since nearly all laptops suck cooling air in from the bottom. Mine is a foldaway metal model that cost like $10 and has been used for the last 3 laptops.

I have it in an odd position that leaves most of the cooling in free air. Since the screen is also damaged, it basically functions as a PC, albeit a low performance one which sits on a junky old monitor with many dead pixels in weird places. I sometimes like how bad my setup is, it's odd, but I like things that are barely functional, but still manage.

Frankly, I <3 our console.  It gets me away from my laptop that I use all day for everything else (except gaming), including my work.

Oh yeah, our PS3 actually was a christmas gift last year, too.

So true.
Try chilling on a couch like Dos Bros with a mouse . Try harder. Nope. No go.
PC 's are workhorses in our home, with dead serious settings around them - bills, tax collection, folders etc. In fact, a poster with the motto : " shouldn't u b doing something else?", would feel right @ home there.

My daugthers won't touch one of those ugly grey bulky pc boxes anyway - it's a challenge in itself to convince them that laptop was never intended for a lap- just as an ipad is never really handsfree....
