DAI gave us numerous new features that didn't exist in previous DA games. Some greatly appreciated, others less so. So I figured why not see what features most people really liked and want to see again in DA4!

For me here's features I really hope we see again:

1) Highly detailed character creation - While limited only to the face (no body sliders), we did get an incredibly detailed way to customize our characters. That's one of the biggest things tat draws me to a game; being able to make the character my own. If I could ask for any improvements here it would be to let us customize the character's height and body shape, as well as 2 more voices for each gender; one younger sounding and one older.

2) Robust Crafting - While some may not appreciate the gathering aspect of the system, I absolutely loved this feature. Being able to make my own custom gear, name it and even tint it, was a big boon to my enjoyment of the game. I hope the system continues forward with even more options. Particularly I hope we see weapon tinting as well as being able to pick which model our weapons and armor use visually.

3) Upgradeable/Customizable Base of Operations - While Bioware didn't exactly do well in this regard, the fact that it is a feature at all is great! Assuming the next game puts us in a situation where having a base of our own is a thing (unlike DAO's "camp"), I hope we'll see this feature again with some much needed improvements. I'm sure many of us here would have loved to actually be able to finish fixing Skyhold and not end the game with areas still left dilapidated.

So what features do other people hope to see again?

Features I hope to stay...

The CC, though that won't ever go. Improved upon, definitely.

The skill trees. I liked them. Though, they have to allow for you to use all of your abilities. Whoever decided limiting your skill use was a good idea was a f*cking idiot.

... There isn't much else I want them to keep. Stuff they had before in both Origins and DA:2 were far superior.

I had quite similar thoughts:

CC: I think this CC was best CC there has been in Bioware's games. However I think that there is things BW could do better with it. For example it would be nice if scars weren't linked to shader quality and scars wouldn't miraclously disappear with lower graphics. Although I liked picking characters eye color I found the color system for it bit wonky to use. Also quality of hair, beards/moustaches and eyebrowns could have been lot better. So DAI's CC with some improvements would be nice.

Crafting: Especially after tinting was introduced I started loving crafting a lot. I think it's addition to Dragon Age and it's nice that we can customize our weapons and armors with it.

Race selection: Humans are too boring. I'd hope that non-human races wouldn't be just afterthought though so that there would be more content for them as well. Now qunaris and dwarfs got less than elves and humans.

I pretty much agree with everyone else -

1) CC - best CC so far, love the options. Would like a few more hair options though, and animated hair (I know this is incredibly unlikely). I actually found some styles I did like in the CC, but I'd like more for the next game, or my characters are going to look very similar! Unlike the OP, I actually want less voice options. Voice actors are incredibly expensive, and I'd rather the money either go elsewhere, or to hiring 1 really amazing voice actor. I curious how many people actually use the second voice option? - every video I've seen uses British female (I haven't looked at many male ones, so I'm not sure bout the ratio for him).

2) Crafting + tinting. First Bioware game where I actually like the vast majority of the clothing! There's so much more detail than in previous games, and some of then are super pretty! Being able to decide what stats go on what armour means I don't have to upgrade to something I don't like just for a few bonuses.

3) Graphics - The game is gorgeous, and whilst I play plenty of "ugly" old games, for something that tries to be cinematic like DA the graphics really help. I'd like some better animations though, those are still kinda wonky. (Lets take the money from those extra player voice actors, and use it on this instead!)

4) Skyhold! - Love having my own castle to build up. Whilst there really wasn't a lot to do here, it's my favourite feature. It's my favourite feature in any game that features anything even slightly similar. GIVE US MORE CASTLES BIOWARE!

5) Race - This is very nearly a deal breaker for me after Inquisition, and I NEVER played any other races before. I only picked an Elf because I heard about Solas only being available to Elves because of "plot-reasons", so I thought there may have been something interesting there (even though I don't usually play any of the romances). Best game decision I ever made, and now I've got a new rule that I'm never allowed to play human in a game where I get a choice.

6) War table - Really helped make me feel like I actually had a organization, and troops at my command that I could order to do stuff. Every other game where I'm gathering forces, I've never really got that feeling, because you mainly interact with just a few core companions.

I'm sure I can think up a few more...

1- like others I loved that crafting actually paid off. Like the things you can make are for the most part better than the things you can find. I also loved that the DLCs allowed you to craft some of the unique models.

2 - COMPANIONS! I liked the fact that you can recruit as many companions that are available, something that I didn't like about DA2 is that I missed the chance of meeting some of the companions due to choices I had made.

3- Open World. I think this is something we take for granted, but open world zones is the best new addition to the series in my view. I'd like to see this continued, to have a good opportunity to really explore the North of thedas while we have the chance.

4 - Race selection. I think that if we have a new protagonist in DA4 it makes more sense there to have race selection than it ever did to have it in Inquisition. I suspect we are going to have another Origins style intro within the game and races would be perfect for this.

Most other things I would like to see improved significantly or go back to How things worked in Origins or DA2.

1. Crafting

2. Race selection

3. Companions and advisors

4. Skill tree

5. War table

6. Open World (big maps like Hinterlands, Emerald Graves, Emprise du Lion, Frostback Basin, Storm Coast, Crestwood etc.) I love exploring :)

7. An operating base such as Skyhold or Haven

8. Character customization

9. Multi choice dialogue (but with a more visible impact, big choices and consequences)

Pretty much everything from DAI but with more options, and the one thing I would like them to add is banter (that works) that allows my PC to join in more often than just eaves-dropping.

This game is suppose to be about choice after all so why would you take something such as that from the game that already has so many few choices that actually matter.

I know a lot of people were dissatisfied with the elven body models... but imo, the faces were fantastic. Their bone structure looks more alien and elfy than in DAO, but it's not the caricature it was in DA2, either. They found the perfect balance between otherness and the uncanny valley. I would KILL to see Zevran and Fenris and Merrill now.

Multiple voice options, qunari as playable characters... basically, I'm good with all of DAI. The only things that really bug me are the open-wordlyness and fetch quests just because I haaaate wandering around endlessly. And I'd like moar cinematics instead of having to wiggle the camera around to get a look at people's faces in conversations.

eta, Oh! I also loved how the companions had a signature "look" that was still fairly customizable. Another example of the perfect middle ground between giving our followers a distinct look with zero customization over YEARS (looking at you, DA2) and everyone looking sorta bleh and blah and replaceable in DAO.

Other people have already mentioned most of what I like as well, but I want to add that I really liked how they handled more major choices this time.

Mages VS templars, Wardens vs in exile, who rules orlais, drink or let morrigan drink... even some companion quest choices felt very balanced! Still room for improvement, but it made making multiple playthroughs with different decisions WITHOUT having to turn my Inquisitor's into Assquisitors.

to echo what Venus_L said.

I would like large open maps to make a return, But to have less fetch quests and more area missions like how DAI originally intended.

Punishing and rewarding choices that affect the game world dramatically

The option to play as the Inquisitor

Deep rich Character creator

Health Spell (no specialized one)

blood magic (tho i don't uses it)

better facial animation and body animations.

Cassandra  <3

More Banter, and interactive banter.

body morpher, i want to be able to make a fatty or a muscular guy.

and Finally Trevor Morris

Multiple race choice; improved hairstyle options & wider variety of beards (including gender specific choices; not everything needs to be unisex); customization of home base; avoid race-gating armors; allow main player character to be something other than goody two-shoes; blood magic specialization with genuinely adverse companion impact; time for more warrior specializations beyond champion/templar/reaver

I really enjoyed all three games for different aspects.  What I'd like from Inquisition kept would be:

CC--best so far without mods.  The only complaints I had were with hair.  1) the texture of some of the colors of hair looked more like straw or plastic.  2) Lack of hairstyle variety.  13 different cuts of 'bald' is not variety.  Of note that I did like was the ability to move around different features to achieve a truly unique look with my inquisitors.  And eye colors.  And on a related note, the Black Emporium with Xenon (voiced by Nicholas Boulton) for those moments when you realized in certain lights, your Qunari's hot pink blush, and weird white eye make up was not the look you were going for!   Yes, that really happened to me.  Somehow I skipped over them without realizing what I'd done, and it bugged the hell out of me in the prologue.

Race options.  I'd love to keep all 4, with 2 voice choices shared between both genders.  I'd play DA4 if all I got to play was a nug, though, so that's not a hard and fast one for me.  No, Bioware I really don't want to play a nug next game, I was just making a point, please no nug PC's.

Gathering mats and crafting my own gear--which leads to each Inquisitor having their own unique style.  On a secondary note, having each companion have his/her own style to the same gear was a really cool feature, ensuring that no one had cookie cutter appearance.  And if something didn't appeal, you just changed things around, unlike in DA2 where you were stuck with one look for each companion.  And not having those crafting things take up inventory space that could be spent on other stuff.

Golden Nug which eliminated the need for me to go around to every place each game trying to find where X schematic was stashed, allowing me to enjoy subsequent games without the urge to explore every nook and cranny each time I made a new inquisitor.

Storage for those things you may or may not need later, but are loathe to just toss away.  Because...pack rat here.

Variable wardrobe for Skyhold/keep/base camp etc.  Thank the Maker, something besides those awful leather pjs.  Barring that, just the option to go around in your armor (or any outfit you like the appearance of) in your home base.

For gameplay:  I really enjoyed

Open world  'nuff said.

Balanced combat system--yes I complained about lack of healing, but if you don't need it, you don't really miss it.  And I had alternatives to my healing mage gameplay, enough I enjoyed myself immensely, and mages are still my favorite class to play, only now bow rogues have been added to that.

Adding an advisory council to the companion list of important helping NPCs was a really nifty idea.

As was wartable missions and judgements, adding to the richness of the Inquisitor experience.  More than just another character slogging through the game, I felt my Inquisitor really was leading them.  The Warden is a solitary character with 8 companions fighting against impossible odds.  Though they expanded on that in DAA and made the character more interactive with the fiefdom, it kind of went against lore that he becomes "Arl of Amaranthine".  Hawke was a relative unknown and no leader of any consequence even after he became Champion.  One complaint I do have about the wartable missions was the silliness of some of them in length.  15-20 hours.  Really Bioware?

And something I thought was well done story-wise:

Death impacting in the game.  From the people grieving for Divine Justinia, and more so to see Cass and Leliana reacting realistically to her loss was a real improvement over the previous two installments of the game.  At no point was Justinia's loss diminished or forgotten.  Also the loss of NPCs (who may not have had a huge role, but an impactful one with your companions) was handled well, and sensitively.

Spoiler
However, until Trespasser, the potential loss of the entire Lavellen clan on a wartable mission was just stupidly handled.  Nothing.  No one mentions the slaughter of the player's family.  Last night I finally saw a scene where Sera addresses it in Trespasser.  (Utube)  I wouldn't mind death in games if they are intelligently handled, but all too often you get a freaking party (Origins-WC/Redeemer endings), or worse, no mention is made at all.  DA2 handled it a little better though.

That's pretty much my 'wish list' and commentary on what they got right and what they could use some improvement on.

While I didn't enjoy the resource collecting/grinding that much and wish crafted items weren't overpoweringly better than any found gear, the addition of the crafting system is an interesting one. I would prefer something along DA2's system of finding a resource location once, and then having the resource available from then on for crafting. Or some other method that eliminates the need to pick up herbs and metals every five feet when exploring the maps.

I genuinely enjoyed the focus abilities, that seemed a good mechanic that didn't take away from the normal skills. If the 8 ability limit is eliminated, even better.

I also liked the flavor responses the PC could give, and the third party responses to companion dialogue. A small method to immerse the main character into the world.

The creature research table was a good feature, as well, and I liked that new war table operations opened up after unlocking certain research items.

The war table itself was hit or miss. Interesting idea and I liked how we could spend power to unlock further areas of maps, but as many people have said, a lot of the operations descriptions seemed more interesting than the actual quests performed in-game. Adding a region-specific war table to the Deep Roads was a good improvement from the original system. I would have liked to see similar tables in each of the maps, and have the option of spending power to complete some of the more tedious side quests that way.

Edited to add: While I appreciate race selection, I didn't feel that the inclusion of races, barring some elf-specific dialogues and the Lavellan-Solas romance, added anything to the game. It was obvious to me that they were last minute inclusions, and didn't bring much in addition to gameplay. If anything, it seemed to take away from other places which could have used the resources. But I am all for race selection in future games, if they are better integrated into story and gameplay. I'm honestly just surprised that the majority of DAI's development cycle was done with a human only PC. I would have thought the devs realized from the backlash of DA2 that fans want race options.

Most of the things I'd like to see continue have already been mentioned, but I'll list them anyway,

Character Creator - Just the other day I booted up the original Mass Effect and was blown away by how aweful the character creator is by comparison.  The CC in Inquisition was fantastic.  Sure we'd all like better hair options, especially for the qunari, but it was still fantastic.

Race Selection - Even if it was mostly a flavor choice in the game, I love the ability to build of distinct identities and backgrounds for my characters.  This means race selection provides excellent replayability.

Wardrobe and Mirror - They were added in patches, but I think everyone was thrilled to see them.  I know I was.  It'd be fantastic for Bioware to work them in from the beginning, hopefully with face codes.

Crafting and Tinting - I'm not usually very into crafting, but I loved being able to create customized equipment for my character in Inquisition.  Customizing my armor color regardless of stats was also great for the same reason the mirror was great: immense custimization.  Gathering materials could be a pain, but making them available in shops helped

Storage - Self explanatory

Exploration - I think Bioware went too far with some of the sprawling open wilderness of Inquisition.  I would have sacrificed half the areas in the game for a few smaller more content dense regions, especially if one of those regions was urban.  That said, I do still want the ability to explore large areas rather than return to more linear ones (Just maybe don't make them so large)

Mounts - I barely used them, but I don't want them to abandon the idea.  I'd like to see more of them in Cutscenes and cavalry.  I think it really can help pull the world together to have horses actually be prevalent.

War Table - Or some equivalent.  I'm a bit on the fence about this since I don't really want to be leading another organization, but maybe a scaled down version could be interesting?  I could take it or leave it.

The CC is quite good.  Just needs better lighting.

I liked the range of iconic looks for companions.  The same outfit will look different on different characters.  The outfits provide a certain level of flexibility with how you what the companions to dress while allowing them to still have unique appearances.  A nice balance between DAO, where the outfits looked pretty much the same no matter who you put them on and DA2, where you were stuck with a given appearance for the whole game.

Variety of casual outfits (hey, we got them eventually  :P )

The current elven model looks good.  Not human with pointy ears like in DAO and not the night elves of DA2

Customizable home base.  Hope this gets expanded on

Mutually exclusive missions.  I like the idea that if you go one path you open up some new content and close off others.  It's a great form of choice and consequences beyond "if you don't do this quest someone will DIE!!!" and adds to replayability.

Noncompanion romances.  We don't always need a "battle couple"  Sometimes it's nice to have someone to come back to.  Provided they get an equal amount of content.

I hope they keep improving the character creator - the more variation and unique looks you can achieve, the better. Out of the DA series, DA:I is the best in this regard, but it can be improved, and I hope they do. I still found it next to impossible to reproduce the look of my Hawke, which tells me that the CC has it's limitations. So more options, more variety, more detailed customization. The more the better.

I know that many people thought that the war table missions were pointless, but I liked them. I'd like to see that idea return, better developed - more varied results based on who you select, fewer missions where all advisers yield identical results. Perhaps improve this by adding playable side quests to some missions, or mission chains, depending on which advisers you select.

Of course, that assumes we have "advisers", or something like them in DA4. Still, I like the concept of this mechanism and would like to see it return, in a more developed form, in DA4.

Have lots of side content like DA:I, but find a way to tie it more tightly to the main storyline - so that whether or not you do the side quest material affects the main plot-line. Perhaps if you do a sidequest X where you attack your enemy's resource Y, the absence of that resource will show up later in the main storyline.

Oh, and NO HARD LEVEL CAP! Do the soft cap, like you originally intended, but failed to do in DA:I. In fact, patch the damn game to remove the hard cap in DA:I. Nobody likes it, and with the DLCs it's all too easy to reach it WAY, WAY before you finish the game, much less go on to trespasser.

1. A home base. What Origins sorta did, but lacked in scope and immersion. Skyhold and Haven were great.

2. Crafting that matter. Crafted items are way more powerful then some artifacts found laying around.

3. More large scale politics and diplomacy, maybe add allies/enemies feature with pros and cons

4. PC (protagonist) costumization.

5. If the game is not set to far in the future, have some cameos of older characters still alive, like the HoF could use his minute.

6. War Table and advisors.

I just prefer to have the choice to meet and have them all involved. I get that if would make the choice harder when it came to agreeing to let certain characters join your crew if you had a limit, or choices were mutually exclusive, but I prefer to have the chance.

Like now, I have no idea who Fenris is, and I doubt I will ever play DA2 again to find out.

Large maps.  Until this playthrough I've been a bit "okay that's enough with the walking about, time to get the big bad".  This time, mostly out of curiosity, I decided to "play like its Skyrim".  As far as I could see that's only doable after you get to Skyhold.  I did it though, am still doing it.    Head to an area, wander off in a randomly chosen direction, harvest stuff, kill stuff, find stuff to do.  I'm not entirely convinced this is an 'open world' game but its pretty darn close.   I've had huge amounts of fun wandering about.

Crafting.  Echoing what most of the posters before me have said.  Nice system.  Almost makes up for the woeful armour appearances available to the Inqui (almost ;-))  Also the ability to recolour armour.  Nifty.  I hope this is developed going forward.

Evolving Skyhold.  Again I'm repeating.  I enjoyed seeing the main hall change over time.  This is definitely limited in DAI but hopefully will be developed in future games.

Story threads.  There are so many twisting in the wind.  Here's hoping they get resolved or explained at some point!  (Okay that one's a cheat but eh)
