same for xbone? wow. that. SUCKS.

Xbox 360 has always required a gold sub ($9.99 a month in US) to play anything online. For the X One, same rules apply. However we can now watch/use Netlfix without a gold sub (yay). You PS guys have been lucky up until now I guess  B) I'm certain Sony is going to follow the same route with their PS+.

do you still have to pay for Netflix though?

Also this reminds why I should really upgrade my PC... never need to worry about going online with additional costs

Yeah I'm in the same boat.
I'm on PC and my notebook all day, so when I get home,
I like to kick-on my pos4 and chill.
Plus,
It always seemed like as soon as I update to a newer/better system, 6mons later (if not sooner) boom!
-something better comes out and I'm continually stuck in the endless cycle of upgrading my PC.

To be fair.. I don't know if that's supposed to be parody or realistic interpretation.

why not both? I have seen enough Console flame wars to know that it is pretty much a standard "dick size" sort of thing.

Nah - you just need to be ahead of the curve of the current console gen since most AAA titles are console ports anyway, done to varying degrees of sh*ttiness  :|

*ahem - Batman: Arkham Knight*

... mind, that's hardly an argument for the glorious PC gaming master race but my rig is probably 8+ years old now in that time I've replaced the GFX card and upped the RAM and it still runs everything I throw at it well enough (though I can't run the Witcher 3 on top settings)... probably about time I upped the GFX card again.

well at least on console you don't have to worry about if your graphics card will let you run such and such game... and regarding batman arkham knight. on the pc, LOL yeah. Got that on the ps4 so im good there. maybe one day i'll actually get a gaming desktop with all the fancy cards and ram capabilities I could ever wish for, but that won't be any time soon.

None of the console internet plans are particularly expensive. Don't get me wrong feel free to draw a line in the sand if this is some moral issue for you. But the MP is kind of a bonus feature as this is a single player game with MP added so paying a bit extra doesn't bother me. Also it comes with a lot of perks. It's worth it on its own IMO.

Welp, I had planned on at least using MP a little since I play it occasionally on ME3, but a subscription requirement pretty much stops that plan dead in its tracks.

Well, considering sony is now charging for everything that WAS free on the ps3, it all adds up VERY quickly.
So it's not a "simple MP" feature you're paying for.

When you are used to something being free it's not nice for it suddenly become not-free.

Also I don't like monthly-pays, I could consider if I could pay (small amount) once to unlock multiplayer on ME:A forever, but monthly, naah.

I agree with this. This was my biggest turn off from ESO and why I never bothered getting the game after Beta... and probably never will despite the change in how its now buy once get all stuff included. Monthly subs can really add up and if you're a student or don't have the highest paying job, it can be significant.

'Tis true,
I remember the shock of going to the pos4 from the ps3 on release day;

-PS3 games on pos4/ pay
[on BC ps3 it was free]

-music on pos4/ pay
[free on ps3, heck the pos4's USB ports were worthless except for charging controllers and the pos4 wouldn't even recognize a lot of DVD's.]

-vids on pos4/ pay

-pics on pos4/ nupe
[ I actually expected sony to release a paid picture app, it was/is so bad.]

-data on pos4/ pay
[ I say this, because to access 90% of the ps3's features you did NOT need to be connected to a network. The pos4 is the opposite, to access anymore than 10% of the features on the pos4 you MUST be connected to a network = increase in data plan usage $$$]

-pos4 personalization/ pay AND nupe
[themes are atrocious on PSS and you can't make your own so- pay-up! in fact, nothing on the pos4 is customizable; no themes, no background pics, no screen savers, no icons, etc etc. In fact! I do expect sony to release a "theme maker app"- that we're probably going to have to pay for...]

-MP on pos4/ pay
[was free on ps3, as discussed in this thread]

There's more that I'm not recalling right now...
Point is,
all of these do start adding up VERY quickly, so it goes from a mere few bucks$ a month on the ps3 to a 300-400% increase on the pos4.
(Granted,
it's not a fortune, but it is still a substantial increase between the two systems.)

I'll also admit that the pos4 has become a little bit better compared to its launch, in regards to features (at least the damn USB ports are semi-functional now (media player and FD's) it's not great or anywhere near as useful or user friendly as the ps3 but there has been a SLIGHT improvement....

Of course all of this is to prevent access to the pos4's HD, understandably.

And hence,
Why I refer to the ps4 as the pos4 :)
But it's def got me seriously thinking of going back to PC's...
(Sorry for the rant)

Especially if the thing you're paying for may be just a notch below an impulse-worthy expense. I play ME3MP on occasion because it's essentially bonus content with good gameplay. Take away the bonus part and I have no time for it. I just don't play it often enough to warrant the subscription.
