I've got as far as The Temple of Mythal, well of sorrows. I've enjoyed the game up until now, but it's suddenly got really hard, I had to leave a quest with a dragon in the desert because it just wiped my out every time, and now Samson just makes mince meat of everyone, not matter what I try. I've put the gamplay down onto 'casual' and keep having to run away and revive everyone, but still get killed. What was a really fun game has just turned into button mashing frustration, and I seem to spend most of my time looking at the bar on the bottom of the screen, waiting for powers to recharge, than actually seeing whats going on. Give Am I doing wrong?

frustrated.

Can I ask what level your party is? Do you craft gear? Once I figured out the right combinations of crafting materials to maximize weapon crit chance and dmg for my rogues, armor sundering and armor penetration for warriors, and elemental dmg for mages, combat became a snap.

Additionally, craft armor that gives stat bonuses (CUN and DEX for Rogues, STR & CON  warrior, and WIS and MAG for mages) This may sound remedial for you, I apologize, these just worked for me. I am sure others here know a lot more in depth ways to bump your party than I. Hope this helps a little.

The temple of Mythal can be a difficulty spike, depending on level, gear, and whether or not you completed Samson's nemesis quest (has Dagna given you a rune to weaken him? If she hasn't, that's part of what's making him hard).

Level, equipment, and the nemesis quest can't be resolved if you're already in the temple, so you'll probably need to switch to tactical camera and pause a bunch to compensate for that.

If it helps, you don't need to save potions for after this fight, so burn through all the health potions, grenades, and tonics as you have. You can make it through this. :)

Once you get a chance, craft some better armor and weapons. Crafted stuff is miles ahead of looted or purchased items, and it will go a long way toward making later fights a lot easier. Also, if you haven't been using tonics and grenades, they can be lifesavers in tricky situations. There are quite a few grenades that stun multiple enemies when fully upgraded, which really helps with tough group fights.

Did you put a fade touch that has berserk on anything? Because that will kill whoever is using or wearing it.

One simple thing is to insure that Potions are upgraded and taken along as needed. When fighting a Dragon, Elemental Resistance can be one's bff. And Regeneration potions are as standard in my game as Health.

Frost step, Combat roll and Evade are your friend. Especially when he jumps at you. Have a good tank, Blackwall for instance, Have a support mage, dorian for instance.. a DPS mage, Solas for instance, and a Strong archer. Sera is good. Fit your character in anywhere you want. If you are a DPS warrior, consider removing the DPS mage, and let dorian handle the buffs and debuffs.

Hard to give advice without knowing details: XP level, who is in your party, what specialization and focus abilities they have, gear levels, etc., etc., but here is some generic advice.

Preparation

Presumably you have a save after coming through the doors at the place where the resupply cache is. If you have one further back, make a save at the resupply cache.

Restrict access to health potions. Non-essential/low damage dealing characters or characters that don't need much healing should have a 5 potion reserve (8 if you have 12). That keeps your weak characters from sucking down all the healing from your strong characters.

If you have any S&S character with decent armor, set their one preferred skill to be Shield Wall (preferably upgraded) and set the AI to Follow (Self), so you can send them in to keep Samson occupied.  If that same S&S can also Taunt, with Challenge preferably, set that to Preferred also and target Samson. The idea is to keep Samson's attention focused on someone who is going to deflect most of the damage done to them.

I don't remember if Samson has Perceptive or not -- if he doesn't and you don't have an S&S, you could use a DW Rogue instead and make Stealth and Flank Attack preferred skills (preferably upgraded to put you back in Stealth), Follow Self, and send them in to keep Samson busy.

Set everyone's AI to Follow (Self) so that they can independently target different enemies.

General tactics

Send your aggro soaker (see above) in to attack Samson. Everyone else attack (from range, if you can) the red templars with him until they are dead -- if the adds (additional enemies) show up deal with them at range also, more or less ignoring Samson. If I recall correctly those first red templars are vulnerable to fire, so use those attacks if you can.

If you have grenades, particularly Antivan Fire and Bees, use them on Samson.

Once the adds are cleared, focus all attacks on Samson. Hopefully, you befriended the Guardians so you'll have some help, but if not, Barrier and Guard generation (any warrior have Horn of Valor?) are your friends.

Use Pause or Tactical as much as necessary. You can anticipate some of the big damage attacks and get out of the way with evasion skills, or cast protection like Barrier or Horn of Valor. Stay away from Samson, except for the aggro tank. Keep moving around the battlefield.

When the weaker non-essential characters die, don't rush to revive them. You can leave them dead the whole battle if they are a net liability. You only need one strong character to finish this boss, so be ruthless.

OP still hasn't responded.... lol

I personally don't have any issue with that area (wiped the floor with it yesterday) on anything below Nightmare. He must be severly underlevelled is all I can think....

I only play normal mode but I've never had problems with any area, probably because I'm always over leveled. I'm playing with all the trials on (except for the one that doubles disapproval from companions because I don't want to lose any) for this first time in my game now so I'll have to see what happens when I get to Samson but I've done ok with everything else, so far.

I fought Samson twice, on normal (first playthrough) and on nightmare (third playthrough). Both times I failed to get Dagna's rune (only got to know it even existed in this forum), but by keeping him busy with the tank, he was perfectly beatable. Actually, I had more trouble in the first playthrough, and I never go to quests over leveled (though normally on the cap of the suggested level, or no more than one level bellow).

Now I am curious to see how much easier he gets if you do break his armor.

Regards :).
