Yeah I get what you're saying, I always go to RedCliff first then the circle, (To enlist the mages for Connor). As for the bodies, well... I mean they probably did not kill them outright.

Yep! I always go there first, though I noticed that the elves are hinted at the first ones you're meant to choose (and closest on the map to where you are). After you complete it, when Leliana is singing, you see no Zevran or Wynne or Oghren. Only Alistair, Sten, Morrigan and Dog.
I think because the choices aren't forced in an actual order, the timeline really is a mess lol
