why is there no option to import a character and equipment to replay the game ?

I made some mistakes on my original play through and wanted to start over and see if I could complete all the bits but I don't want to start off as a level 1 with zero skills and junk equipment I want to continue the same character with its current equipment load out, in previous games this was possible so why is this feature missing ?

No, it wasn't.
You can, however, synchronize your schematics with the Golden Nug.

Um, this wasn't possible in the previous games either. But for equipment you can use the Golden Nug to get better schematics, though you're kinda stuck with low-level materials.

You can sync all the schematics you've collected with the golden nug that was added in one of the latest patches. It's the closest thing you can get to carrying over your stuff. You can basically make end game equipment right away if you have enough materials. And like others have said, it wasn't possible to import a character in the previous games either. It's only been possible in the mass effect games.

OP, Cmiiw but could you be refering to ME's NG+? Where you could play the same shepard over and over and over and over... (not judging. This is how I play too ^^')

I don't think they have this feature in any of DA games (would love if they include this feature too. Since for me it's a pain to recreate the exact same face. Ugh, sliders and no face codes >_< I get very much attached to my protage's face over the game)

you could play through your toon in da then import it into dao you were able to use the chest in the dlc location to carry forwards all equipment you could then import that char into the combined game , in da2 you could put anything you wanted into the chest and then start a new game and on reaching Kirkwall open the chest and retrieve everything you had already stored in there, and you could also use the import feature to retrieve your char, don't know if this was a pc only thing but it was quite involved process that required you to copy n paste things from different folders.

as to the golden nug it must have appeared after I got frustrated and bored of trying to replay the game /

maybe i'll find a way to hack the files and make it so I can use my old char, if nothing else it would be fun to fully unlock every possible skill

I have a feeling that was a mod.

possibly but it was a download that came with the original game and was part of the game's launcher program, its not available through the version of the game they put on origin though so perhaps its something that wasn't available on later versions /

No, I got both Origins and DA2 on launch day, and this character import/chest of goodies stuff was never a feature of either game. The version of either game on Origin now is the same as the release version, only already pre-patched, no features have been removed.

Character "importing" in DAO was just good old manual save editing, and the only thing that could be delivered to your chest in Kirkwall was the pre-order items (that they released for free to everyone later). You're definitely either thinking of mods and confusing them with official features, or thinking about Mass Effect and confusing it with DA. Don't blame you for the confusion, it has been years, but the DA series never had any semblance of New Game Plus features before the Golden Nug was added to Inquisition.
