So I was playing as my 2H-Warrior with a flaming great sword and found a blue barrier (the kind that recommends a mage's fire attacks). I started hacking away at it, as my great sword had a +10 fire rune and to my surprise, the barrier came down after about 2 minutes of auto-attacks. Is this a bug/glitch, or can anyone else confirm this? I googled a little bit and most people seemed to say that it was impossible without a mage. I did it on PS4 if that matters, and it was the barrier outside that temple where everything is frozen in time.

You can use Cassandra's spell purge ability on barriers the same way dispel will remove them.  But if you have cloth slotted in a weapon that damages barrier, it will take the barrier off eventually.

All elemental damage affects the barrier door things.

That includes poison, rune damage, chromatic hits etc.

Did you have the trails on that lets enemies use new skills and tactics? With that trail on some mages have a very poweful barrier regen.

Oh I guess I should've been more specific, I meant barriers more like the doors.

You can, in theory, destroy them with anything. In practice, if it's not elemental, it needs to do a very large amount of damage in a short amount of time.

True, though straight-up melee auto-attacks "bounce" off the force field (let's not call them barriers, for obvious reasons).

Lets call them Gates!

Gates, are elemental barriers set up by mages to block your path, they're usually attuned to a certain element (Air, Fire, Ice, Spirit etc.), and they typically repel the physical through some means (likely a discharge of energy).

So these Gates, you usually bring down by having your mage equip the right staff and bursting it down with the element's Antithesis (Ice to Fire, Spirit to Lightning), but its far simpler than that. Any damage if its high enough will damage the Gate -- though matching elements will do significantly less damage. The Gates regenerate their life bars after 5 seconds of having taken damage, and continue to regenerate until they're full once again. So the key to opening this gate is to burn it down faster than it can regenerate.

For a Solo Warrior -- You'll want to use abilities on these gates as they don't break your momentum, and some have elemental effects if you're wielding 2h. If you're going it alone, you should really carry a few weapons with you, as you'll need the right gear for the right job.

Yeah. I could have sworn it didn't work that way at launch, but I can't remember for sure.

Yeah I normally would use a mage's staff, I just didn't have any mages in my party (roleplaying as someone who hates mages).
