So I played Mass Effect Trilogy, knowing I would regret "playing" the thing, I hate action, etc
But as I played all my thoughts on how Bioware lacks creativity proved true

But this post is a bit specific about one thing that pissed me off so I will not take my time to comment everything but barrier sh*t got to Dragon Age just like Singularities and even the way that some maps are designed. Lots of Biotic powers became skills in Dragon Age working almost identically and in DAI we even have that stupid shield mechanics and other stuff, ridiculous and stupid stuff that should have never left Mass Effect land, because you know, you shouldn't put action sh*t on RPG

But going on to the point, identity theft plot in ME3 and DAI was already pissing me off royally, because you know Bioware have a set of few characters and personalities that they repeat in all their games since 2000, and also some popular plots, specially when it comes to companion quests, but ok, I was bearing the complete lack of criativity in everything. Because you know, that's Bioware, get D&D and Star Wars, add Legend of the Seeker, ASOIAF, LOTR, Star Trek and that's it, the whole of it, just mix and match. And they repeat themselves all over again...

But seriously you didn't repeat one plot in two consecutive games (identity theft) you repeated at least two (I'm investigating a little more, it is hard to do every quest in an action game since action makes me vomit and die but your lack of creativity got my attention), in ME3 and DAI we find the great big civilization of old (Protheans and Elves) were slavers, imperialists, and had godavatars... now, seriously, seriously, just stop.

Are you able to do anything different at all? Anything new? Or will the next game have another paladin with a crisis in faith? Another thief with a good heart? Anbother assassin that helps people? OMG you copy EVERYTHING, there isn't a single new game in any of your games since the first one. So please, quit changing good things (battle systems with stats) and start creating new things for characters and plots. You are not disguising your complete lack of creativity good enough.

And I dare you to make a story where the player do not need to gather forces/armies/etc to become strong and defeat an impossible enemy. Unite the galaxy? Unite Ferelden? Ferelden + Orlais? Please, that's all you can do? Quit this hero stuff, do ANYTHING different. Because from ctrl+c ctrl+v skills, romances, plots, races, and so on to creating "new" thing based off D&D and Star Wars it is getting way too stupid for anyone who played at least 3 of your games. EA sport games have more variation from their 2014 to their 2015 installment than all your games spun across the last decade.

Solas and Javik should hang out, drink some bears and talk about how creative Bioware is. Thane and Cole should spend time together too. Envy Demon and Shepard clone. Liara and Morrigan know everything about the ancient people right? Oh god...
And I will say it once more, I'm pretty sure Kai Leng is a descendant from Ancient Elves, you know, those shadow in Arbor Wilds.

I'm 30 yrs old and I really can't stand the old diatribe of "Save the World" anymore.

Maybe I've grown too old to enjoy this kind of entertainment. Or maybe companies think adult video games are games+sex+violence, with no change in the overall plot whatsoever.

Saving the world as a plot\goal is well and good if it is done really well. But I have to agree. It has gotten to a point where it is overused.

Why'd you play it, then? I don't have enough time to play all the games I like, let alone time to play games I don't like.

Dragon Age 2.

Yes. And no.
Yes, it is not about creating a large army to protect the world. And that part was awesome, the part where the game was a lot more personal, which made Trespasser be 10.000 times better than the rest of Inquisition.
But also, no, the mechanics were the same, managing mages and templars was very much like balancing Krogans and Salarians. There was the whole doing favors for the parts and getting to know them through quests and stuff. This "mechanic" should change, for good. But well, yeah, if you ask me to choose the focus of the story DA2 is by far the best DA game. Also when comaring to ME and ME3, ME2 seems more personal, but still, as I said about DA2, even when the story is more personal Bioware repeats the way they work quests.

This pisses me...

It is like animes, all animes talk about how important is to have friends, the power of friendship, from Goku's Genki Dama to Saint Seiya Omega and everything in between. Bioware is like an adult version of this. But both are obvious and explored to exaustion. All children know we should have friends, all adults know alliances are the only way to do anything at all. But how these things are inside the game don't always need to be the same. You don't always have to build a party in the same way (or the same 2 ways, either you are powerful and recruit or a bunch of underdogs with something to unite). Ok, these two are good, but after 3.000.000.000.000 games about it, change for makers sake!

And seriously, it is not just games, games, animes, movies, books... it is the same two plots over and over again.

SOme (VERY) basic options:
1 - The PC is sick, needs a cure, and will work for people to get their cure, do whatever it takes. Will have to work of people they like and people they dislike, but not to save the world, to save themselves.
2 - PC is being blackmailed by someone who is in the party all the time, following the progress day and night, this person is always part of the party and will choose who you work with. You have to help this person while you try to find a way to get rid of the "problem".
3 - PC lost everything and wanted to die, failed and found he can't die. Goes on a search for power and vengeance, since in the beginning being immortal just means being a punching bag.

Nothing otherwordly enough to scare the public (as I usually write, things which human beings can't relate to) but also different from Bioware's past 9999999999999999999 games. I am not asking for Planescape Torment, I know brains are not popular these days, but at least a little variation. And I know my suggestions wouldn't be popular, DA fans usually like being in control which I hate... but the point is not everbody in GoT is jhon snow or daenerys, there are tyrions, melisandres, littlefingers, and others too

Why'd you play it, then? I don't have enough time to play all the games I like, let alone time to play games I don't like.

I have time to play all the games since the first bits came to live until the day I die, and probably make multiple playthroughs of all of them at the same time. I did like 40+ DAO playthroughs (with all dlc, expansion, etc). I don't need to work or spend time with humans, so since, I guess, October 2014, I'm just home playing games forever.

YES.

God why don't modern writers break away from the tired fantasy formula? Why do we even need protagonists, all we're doing is enforcing a self centered worldview that's destroying the planet. In the next Bioware game, we should play as a tree. But not all the time, to escape the pitfall of the aforementioned protagonist concept. The rest of the playtime should be a time lapse around the tree, and after 3 hours of this, it should just cut to credits.

Nevermind, I'm too enlightened for this forum. I'm taking my american apparel, suspenders and overwaxed facial hair to Sundance, where I will drink lukewarm coffee and complain about the fall of artistic integrity.

Bioware's games have always been Strictly Formula (read the article to see why this is not necessarily a bad thing), and for good or ill, their fans, as a rule, like it that way, and attempts to change things, as in DA2 or in ME3's ending, get a controversial reception at best.

Having said that, I think DA2 would've been received much better if not for its other flaws, and if at Bioware they think that the mixed reception was mainly due to the changed plot structure, they're drawing a wrong conclusion. I hope they're not too afraid to make experiments again, but after DA2 and ME3 they really needed something that just works. And DAI did work rather well, overall.

BTW, you're overstating your case, OP.

Sorry bud, Lavoisier beat you to it by a few centuries, and he was much more succint in his explanation:

"Rien ne se perd, rien ne se crée, tout se transforme" (nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed).

Without going into a creative debate, just want to point out that any creative idea you have, its simply a transformation or different point of view of something else you saw, or heard or experienced. Creative writing is no different. What makes something stand out, is the way its presented, not its originality.
