I much prefer the look of some of the tier 2.5 armor over dragon scale on SOME characters. I love it on others. How bad am I nerfing myself by choosing the crafted pieces?
Am I severely nerfing myself by using the crafted over dragon scale?

Not much. The 2.5 armors have 6% melee/range/mage defence depending on the armor. Meanwhile the dragon armor has ~11 more armor, so... yeah.
Use whatever you like/have armor upgrades on.

I just unlocked all the Drakescale and I had this question too. I much prefer the unique purple gear but is Drakescale a must for threatening/perilous?

The previous posters says it doesn't matter much. Its a tiny bit of armor in exchange for a tiny bit of secondary stat. Wear what looks cool is their advice. Either one is fine as long as it's the tier 2.5I just unlocked all the Drakescale and I had this question too. I much prefer the unique purple gear but is Drakescale a must for threatening/perilous?
I assume at the higher difficulties a tiny bit of armor is very negligible and requires abilities and positioning to stay alive rather than armor.

that tiny bit of armour is a lot more relevant on the chars that have the passive +20% armour, otherwise its not much difference, of course promotions help a hell of a lot as well since the more con/wil/cun you have the better your defences are, I tried out a few different builds on my toons and the drakescale does make some diference on some chars, but no where near as much as getting out of white/blue gear does, I am constantly seeing scrubs in white/blue gear going down everytime something looks at them funny and dragging games, gets boring after a very short time to constantly be soloing due to 3 fade watching nubs that just upgraded the game from annoying to difficult

I use armors depending on look ... on some characters the Drakescale simply looks ugly to me.
And as nanotm said with armor passive like lego with possible +40% it may make a difference but I still dont use it on him

I wear the dragon scale on all but the assassin and Rion. I don't like the bald look for the assassin and the hood fits her character better. Rion is just an ugly guy who needs his hooded robe to hide his gargoyle like features.

I like the drake scale on the silent sister a lot. Her normal armor is very boring IMO. As for the others I'm really starting to prefer their own armor. I like the templar and Lego in the drake scale but kinda wish they had helms.
I like the non helm look for both, Korbin looks like a real genuine deep roads bad ass. At least the difference are not so great that we can't all wear the oufits we want. i wish we had the ability to colour shade and tint them however.

Another feature we had in ME3MP. I still do not understand why they didn´t use those features in DAMP instead they come up with worse ones

No mention of Avvar? Looks the worst on him imo.

Lol! I HATE the Avvar in Dragonscale more than any other character! Take away his barbarian attire and he looks like an old geezer.
No, he looks like a young geezer who believed his friends when they said "Hey, if you shave off your hair and cover your face with whitewash, you'll look really cool!" And the moral is, friends are the ones who really stitch you up, enemies only want to kill you.
Just to add, we old geezers know that the correct response to suggestions like this is "Go stick your head in a pig!". (Cue David Cameron jokes.)

I also think it looks weird on the Saarebas

I think the most improved with the new armor is Luka
Agreed we get to see what the spicey little red headed minx really looks like.
