The hardest decisions you've had to make playing Dragon Age?

Sure, it is unknown magic, but s/he would also have to be okay with letting a human (Morrigan) claim their heritage.

Haha, that one was easily a NOPE for me. The only reason my canon play through drank from it was because she was a Dalish mage and I thought she'd be the only one of my Inquisitor'sstupiddesperate enough to drink from it.
Yeah, so far my Dalish mage is the only one of my four Inquisitors to take the Well for themselves. All of the others reacted with 'wait, Morrigan, you want to drink from the creepy ancient elven dohicky and get enslaved to a god? Um, please, after you."

Once, I agonized over Demands of the Qun, but I no longer do. Now, only the Well of Sorrows is a choice I have difficulty with, and then only on my elf mage; everyone else would let Morrigan drink.

Ring Velvet or Silk Brocade to go with my Plaideweave...can never decide.
Seriously, though. Who to leave in the Fade was the toughest choice for me. I think I sat there for 10 mins.

-Saving the Chargers or the Alliance with the Qunari
-Making Cole more Human or Spirit
-Leaving Hawke or Loghain in the Fade
-Preserving the Inquisition or Disbanding it

Side with Werewolves or with the Dalish (I didn't knew there was an option to help them both in my first playthrough).
Spare or not spare Loghain and what do with certain whiny traitor if spared Loghain.
Dark Ritual or who must die against the Archdemon.
Forgive the Architect
DA2:
Whether or not allow Merrill keep the shard of the Eluvian.
Whether or not allow Varric keep the Red Lyrium shard.
Side with Larius or Janeka.
Trust Isabella or Tallis again.
DAI:
Let die the dreadnought or the Chargers.
Trust Florianne
Judging Samson and Alexius.
Who drinks from the Well
Who should have the leathers of the animals touched by the veil.
Keep or Disband the Inquisition.

Warrior, rogue or mage.

Logahin/Hawke and the fade choice was the hardest for me. I loved Loghain and loved Hawke. I picked Loghain only because I can easily see how he would view this as his chance at some sort of redemption. He's been sort of expecting to die since DAO.

Hawke's choice was never hard for me, since the Wardens instigated that whole mess. I'm not about to let a victim of circumstances to take a blow instead of the Order responsible. And before someone starts with: "But Hawke released Corypheus" - who threatened Malcolm with pregnant Leandra to make him cooperate, who sent Carta after the Hawke family, who trapped Hawke in the ancient prison, who were determined to free Corypheus with or without Hawke's cooperation? Wardens. Not to mention murdering Divine and summoning a demon's army. So I let them clean after themselves.
The only hard choices I could recall were Bhelen vs Harrowmont, Anders's decision and choosing between Celene and Briala.

DA:O--Dark Ritual. It was an interesting choice on a meta-level as a player: basically, how far are you willing to go to ensure your PC's happiness and survival? The answer is pretty uncomfortable.
DA2--Merrill and the eluvian. IMO one outcome is not necessarily better than the other; they're both bad in different ways.
DAI: Choice between Hawke and romanced Warden!Alistair in the Fade. Weekes, you terrible terrible man ![]()

Anvil of the Void on a dwarf. Not so much conflict on others, but on a dwarf, knowing what's happening in Orzammar. Yea, that's a tough one for me. Might would have done it on my duster, but had Shale with me. And I love Shale.

DAO - Dark Ritual. Took a while before I finally settled on my golden ending.
DA2 - Siding with the Mages or the Templars. It really was a question of vile or viler.
DAI - Mage Inquisitor or Rogue. I CAN'T CHOOSE. I JUST CAN'T.

DAO: The Dark Gift (playing as a female romancing Alistair) & Harrowmont v. Bhelen(sp?)
DA:II The mage in the bar - send him back or put him on a ship?
DA:I - Cole, spirit or human? & What to do with Blackwall?

Dragon Age Origins: Only one. All others were easy for me based on logic and not letting feelings get in the way (harder than it sounds). I had no idea who should rule Orzammar. Then I saw both slides and realized Bhelen is the best choice.
Dragon Age II: Save Isabela or kill the Arishok. Despite him losing his temper and making a dumb decision, he didn't betray me. Yes Isabela returns, but still, my trust in her was far less after that.
Dragon Age Inquisition: The ruler of Orlais. None of the options result in a happy ending and I have trouble with Celene and Briala just forgiving and moving on despite how happy it sounds.

Poor Fenris (and optional Hawke sibling), and poor Varric having to write to him (and optional Hawke sibling) about what happened.
"DearBroodyFenris,Hawke decided to be all noble againHawke felt guilty for releasing Corypheus even though I was the one that took her to his prisonI left Hawke to dieHawke isn't coming back to youThe dragon was finally slain
Hawke died doing what she did, protecting people.

I used to leave Hawke in the Fade because of how her and Varric were on such a heavy guilt trip over Cory and seemed obsessed with ending it because they started it, but then I saw the slides for Trespasser. Hawke working with Viscount Varric to rebuild Kirkwall? Sorry Loghain.

Looking at the answers, I realize that I didn't agonize much when it comes to decisions in the series:
That's the only time I was really conflicted, mostly because both paths give interesting scenes and dialogue, but in the end I decided that since the original Cole wanted to be a normal boy, then an almost-normal real boy named Cole would inhabit Thedas.
<snip>
I just can't leave him in the Fade.
Originally I was going to leave him in the Fade because I felt Stroud deserved more screen time (Hawke already had plenty in DA2) and because I liked the irony of having my lovable, snarky, idealistic DA2 protagonist dying for the Grey Wardens while my much more selfish Orgins' protagonist was still gallivanting around instead of doing her job.
Problem is my Hawke's an apostate.
Have you seen the Mage Hawke sacrifice? A swordsman attacking the Nightmare will look appropriately heroic, a mage trying to beat to death the Nightmare with his or her staff (instead of using their spells, in the Fade, where their magic is supposed to be at its strongest dammit!) look way too ridiculous for me to willingly inflict that scene to myself
<snip>
I don't think Cole actually wanted to be a real boy, not that he didn't want that. He just wanted to be whatever could help people.
. Honestly the thing that bugged me the most about that decision was that you never got to ask Cole what he wanted to be. My canon play through as more human Cole, but I sometimes question that decision.
XD That has to be the best reason for not leaving Hawke I've heard!
Ring Velvet or Silk Brocade to go with my Plaideweave...can never decide.
Seriously, though. Who to leave in the Fade was the toughest choice for me. I think I sat there for 10 mins.
Obviously the Silk Brocade! Haha, no the real question is which of your fashion minded mages would kill you first for putting them in Plaideweave!

The Arishok really peeved me off. I know a lot of people like the guy and respected him, but how dare he destroy my city over some stupid book!
My first playthrough Isabela left and never came back so I didn't have to make that decision, and I would of given her up because I really didn't like her character. But I took her out and became friends with her my second/canon playthrough. After learning more about her and her motivations and past I forgave her for what happened, and I found it really redeeming that she came back with the book.
The ruler of Orlais was a hard decision after my first play through. During my first I just went with my knee jerk reaction and saved Celene and I hadn't collected enough info for anything crazy with the leadership. During my second playthrough I had them work together, but there definitely isn't a good choice. They all suck and work out in their own ways!

She had high approval but she still never returned the first time, so I have no idea what I did wrong. Next time around I forced a full friendship even though I disagreed with her often to see what happened and realized we just don't see eye-to-eye unless I metagame. Sad thing about the Arishok is I almost wanted him to succeed. I was so fed up with the city and everyone going insane. Took a lot to force myself to get through Act 3 without wanting a 3rd option to let the city explode instead of just the Chantry. Orsino wtf I sided with you and wtf???

Lol. Kirkwall certainly was... well they didn't do a good job showing us the city's good points. It had to have had good points, right?
Uh, Orsino... that whole mess was just so frustrating! I get that Hawke can't be in control of everything and some things happen regardless of her/his decisions, but really? WHY!? All he did was prove all the mage haters right and he had no red lyrium excuse like Meridith did!

Who was your Warden?
Stroud was my warden, but I was so shocked the choice was there. I was even more shocked when I realized that Alistair would have been in Stroud's place. I had been so very close to importing a world state with Alistair still a warden and that was all I could think about. So I sat there going "WTF Bioware?!"
Ended up leaving Hawke in the Fade. Varric made me feel like a terrible person for that. :/
