A splash of Forbidden Planet, The Black Hole, Logan's Run, and 2001: A Space Odyssey would be nice.
Andromeda needs to be weirder Sci Fi than ME

If by getting "weirder" you mean having more aliens that don't have exactly two arms, two legs, eyes, ears and a mouth.....yeah, they could and should get alot more weird.
id like to see this.
hanar were a good start.

I love when sci-fi subverts ones idea of reality, and I hope ME:A has those really sci-fi moments when you get a sense there's more to the universe than we can possibly comprehend.
Also, I liked the sci-fi feel of the Catalyst scene in Mass Effect 3 and I'd love if ME:A became the black sheep in the franchise by being more like that (but without breaking its own tone and style in the last 10 minutes of course).
What I'm expecting on the other hand is a game that has a sci-fi setting but largely puts emphasis on real-life themes for its story, social justice warriorism and dude with guns and "impressive" action and explosions because... guns and explosions are cool. We're just mindless gamers, after all *sigh* >_>

I would settle for a half Farscape, half Spartacus type of bizarre, violent, and sexy ME:A.

That would be very strange, in a good way though.

Well, if we go too weird you also have to consider the fact that communication is gonna get exceedingly difficult and that for some alien life it'll be difficult to ever progress technologically, no matter how intelligent they are.
So... sure, we can have aliens whose motivations, actions and attempts at communication are like staring at an abstract painting or an inkblot test, but I doubt it'll make for a good game...

Mass Effect 2 IMO has the best sense of "weird" and dark sci-fi. Specifically, the derelict Reaper with the video logs; it was almost lovecraftian.

Considering I tend to think that when Legendary Pictures gets off its butt and uses the movie rights that Guillermo del Toro would be a really good fit for ME, I think we may be at weird enough,

I think that would be a poor choice. Guillermo del Toro is a visionary director to be sure, but he's proving more and more with every project that he's more style than substance. He's lost his mojo.
Besides, a movie wouldn't do ME justice. It would just be a severely bastardized story that looks like ME.

I'd argue that it's not the director's job to provide substance but the writer's. Then again that assumes the director is smart and not Kevin Costner.
I think they could probably manage as a trilogy since a lot of what does going into the game is choices and that gets streamlined.
The biggest problem would be Shepard. Who do you cast. Hell, what gender do you cast? Can you imagine the backlash if they cast a female Shepard? And considering a good portion of Bioware's audience is female, casting Shepard will cause screaming from that angle.
Full disclosure: I am female and I would probably be annoyed to pissed off depending on who they'd cast if they decided to go with a male Shepard.
I do think they could do something with say Anderson in the ME universe, maybe First Contact War, and not have it fall apart.
Del Torro is my first pick because ancient Lovecraftian evil tends to be right up his alley. There are a couple directors working in the Marvel CU I'd consider as well. But I assume any mention of J.J. Abrams might unleash riots in the streets. Well depending on how Force Awakens does or doesn't do.

del Toro doesn't just jump into the director's chair. He writes/co-writes everything he directs and usually takes on a producer's role as well.

Ah, that I did not know.
I've liked the movies I've seen by him, and he does seem to have a facination with the archeotype.
*shrug*
Legendary bought the rights just after ME2 came out, I think, so I doubt we'll be seeing anything anyway. Not exactly the hottest property in Hollywood. Though that may change with SW. Studios tend to run around like chickens with their heads cut off after something turns blockbuster.

I'd actually like to see them go a bit more in that direction, add more space horror as well.
Like Leviathan it was the best DLC for ME3 in my opinion they had some really creepy moments.
