If the decision of who gets left behind in the Fade was between Hawke and your Warden aka the Hero of Ferelden, who would you pick?

Would the decision of choosing the two be more difficult or easier?

I kinda got the impression, though nothing confirmed, that this was the way Bioware might have planned in the early stages before deciding not to include HoF.  But if they did, I would have a much more difficult time choosing which of my heroes I would leave behind. Honestly, I'd probably pick Hawke only because it would seem narratively fitting if anyone recalled Flemeth's words to Hawke on Sundermount.

I'd have left the warden, though it would have been a tougher choice than the relatively easy decision to let Loghain take the fall.
The warden is living on borrowed time(blight cure seems rather a Hail Mary effort IMO) after already having his life extended via the dark ritual. Adored my Hawke and his bond with issy and his gang, feel he deserves the chance to live.

The Warden. Unless they actually find a cure, they are already dead and usually dead at the end of DAO if you choose the Ultimate Sacrifice.

It's amusing that Flemeth warned Hawke of his/her possible fate, but she was also speaking of Solas' plans too. Really clever foreshadowing.

I'd save the Warden because I have a stronger connection to my HoF and I couldn't break Alistair's heart.

My Hawke was way more lovable than my main Warden and more funny than all other Warden variations...

Which is why I'd sacrifice him, because I'm a mean bastard

If it was my canon Warden... I'm sorry Hawke, I got too attached.

If it was any other Warden of mine... Well, Hawke would make it out alive every time.

Yeah, I'd have to leave Hawke because of what Flemeth said too. If that turns out to be a red herring, it would be a lot harder, but I think I'd still leave Hawke. I love you Hawke, but your story is already a tragic one, and the Hero of Ferelden staying behind would just be a massive let-down in terms of an epic sacrifice compared to the possibility of dying while killing the Archdemon. And I miss my Warden :( But anyway, we don't have to pick, so yay!

I like to think Hawke managed to survive if (s)he stayed behind, so I would probably leave Hawke in the Fade so (s)he could one day come out being as badass as the person who ended the Fifth Blight.

I'd leave my warden.  I'm too attached to certain Hawkes.  TBH if it had been that kind of choice, I'd have to have made 'throwaway' of either one I planned in each game.  For instance, when I wanted Warden Alistair, I used a Hawke I never finished my game with.  If I wanted my warden to survive (since only 2 managed to make it to Keep), I would have used throwaway Hawkes.  Warden is on borrowed time anyway, but if he had a sweetheart still in the picture (like Morrigan or Leliana) I'd have been less inclined to toss the warden.

As it is I am glad I just have to choose between Loghain, Alistair and Stroud and Hawke.

I would settle it like this:

Inquisitor: Gentlemen, one of you must be sacrificed. If you don't want to die, immediately say something.

Warden: *Performs frantic hand gestures*

Hawke: What?

Inquisitor: That settles it. Good knowing you, Warden.

Would had left the Warden. The Warden doesn't have long to live anyways and it's their duty to protect the lands of Thedas against demons, darkspawns, etc. The Wardens sealed their fate the moment they made the pact.

I wouldn't choose between my warden and Hawke...I don't want to kill either of them.

So for that game where I had to kill one of them, I'd either use a made-for-killing warden or a made-for-killing Hawke and then pretend it didn't happen. And it wouldn't have happened to my real warden or real Hawke.  :P

I'd leave the Warden, since it's kind of their whole shtick to go out in a blaze of glory. Hawke just wants his burger and fries and to be left in peace for once.

That still would have made it an easy choice to make. I wouldn't have hesitated to leave The Warden behind for that one.Instead i have to choose between a prior protagonist and the most amazing facial hair in Thedas.

Coin flip. Only way I could do it.

But if it's a male hawke? Coin flip not required. Let him die!

Depends on the world state. My 'canon' Hawke would still be left in the Fade, no matter who the other option was. I didn't leaver her there out of affection for Stroud, that's for sure. It just felt wrong for her character to let someone else make the sacrifice.

There are other world states where it would be trickier. Not sure which of my Amazing Mage Cousins I'd sacrifice, or whether my Dalish elf would be willing to leave Morrigan and Kieran alone to save his former clan-mate's lover. (Especially if he found out their whole clan was killed by Hawke. Whoops.)

My canon Hero of Ferelden is a prince to the throne of ferelden, father to Kieran with the Old God spirit and is friends with the possible new arishok.

Hawke is great. But at the end of the day she's just a girl from kirkwall in my playthrough. Just not as important.

100% leaving behind Hawke.

Hawke is the one who unleashed both Corypheus and red lyrium upon the world, so dying like that feels like an absolute waste of plot potential. In the Other hand, The Warden already served his purpose, so... in death, sacrifice. Epic.

Hawke. Dude is a walking disaster. His story needed to end so that he could get his rightful place as a great tragic hero.

I'm firmly convinced that this was the setup at some time during game development, and that they only didn't implement it because they'd have to give the Warden a voice, and because of the reception of ME3's ending.

As for what I'd have done, that depends on which Hawke and which Warden was involved. I'd have raised hell about it though. There are few things I hate more than forcing a sacrifice on one of my a characters. I don't always save my Hawkes, but if the alternate choice is an NPC at least I'd have the option to save Hawke, and that's what counts.
