I find that getting credits in this game is a lot harder than in ME1, especially since enemies no longer drop it. Are there any easy ways to earn cash besides just the random finds on missions?

Would have been nice if you could sell your excess minerals. I had all I needed for all ship, armour and weapon upgrades before I had recruited my first henchmen. You only need, what, 250k of each except Element Zero, of which you need less than 50k.

Save game.
Bet on Varren. If you win, save the game again. If you lose, load your save.
Repeat.

I feel bad for the people that did not improt ME1 characters, because I got a 130,000 credit starting bonus, and its still only good for a couple upgrades. But it kinda nice I guess having something to strive for..
My hard drive died, and when I got a new one I had to start all over. I made a ME1 char and leveled her up to 45 with maxed credits, then imported my save to ME2. But the credit and resource bonus did not appear as it had before. It just isn't there. I even tried a second playthrough with ME1 and imported that one. STILL didn't work. There must be a bug where if you have a known profile and start over you don't get the perks.

If you're really strapped for cash and feel that you really need that last weapon upgrade before taking on a mission, kill some pyjaks, give the meat to Urz the varren and bet on him to win. He seems to have a high chance of winning.

Get the discounts, buy only what you feel you need [i.e. forget about hack and bypass modules, the tasks are not challenging; heavy weapon ammunition upgrades not particularly useful; et cetera]
I disagree, the heavy weapon ammo upgrades are mandatory; 200% on Cain or 1000 for the Collector Particle rifle is well worth the investment. (the game has a tendancy to forget you are wearing the extra ammo armour options)

Depends on one's playing style. I find the M920 Cain utterly useless, given that no enemy is durable enough to necessitate the use of such a weapon, and consequently its ammunition usage is extremely inefficient. The two heavy weapons that I have found to be useful - the Collector particle beam and the arc projector - still become redundant if one uses a powerful enough ammunition power with an upgraded weapon and focuses on taking headshots. For instance, the Widow or even the Mantis sniper rifles with tungsten ammunition can kill most adversaries far more efficiently than even the particle beam, which is best used as a fall back weapon when you haven't the time to reload [like when one faces a horde of husks and runs out of shotgun clips]008Zulu wrote...

Even using classes that only receive submachine guns, I still rarely find myself using heavy weapons. In the end, on the higher difficulties they tend to pack a lesser punch than upgraded standard weapons, the thermal clips for which are abundant.
In any case, I recognise the usefulness of HW ammo research for the player who likes to use the heavy weapons - but I still say prioritise. There are more than enough credits and minerals in the galaxy to pay for all research options, but things like damage protection and damage increasing weapon modifications take precedence over ammunition, which can be conserved on the battlefield with a little extra effort.
This post is entirely irrelevant though - as I said, it comes down to how you want to play. If you like heavy weapons, of course the ammo upgrades are going to be important. ^^

The Arc Projector is nice, but it's useless against ariel targets like the Praetorian or the Reaper Boss. The Collector weapon is the most practicle of all the heavies.
Once you finish Lair of the Shadowbroker you get investment oportunities, not sure how many there are, I have only done 5 or 6 of them.

Be cautious. The Blue Suns, the Sirta Foundation and the Batarian weapon sales investments will fail, leaving you out of pocket. Just so you don't end up losing those credits.008Zulu wrote...

The Normandy Crash site gives you funding, not much. It's Alliance funding, too, the only mission that the Alliance funds for you. It's a lot better for XP, no other N7 mission gives that much XP.
The Firewalker Pack also provides a decent amount of funding, when you add the missions up.
