I couldn't help but notice while playing that the storyline of Inquisition was a lot like the storyline to the Avengers movie. Only I'm not joking. There are many similarities.

War rages across the land but the people have to put aside their conflict to stop an ancient evil returned from the dead who is trying to destroy the world. A chosen one with a special power is the only one who can stop this evil. An ancient organization is reformed to combat the threat. There are large open spaces, dragons, a sky that looks like this:

So, I was thinking about making another fun thread. This time, instead of joking about the forums, I was thinking about joking about the plot and characters of Inquisition. The idea is to say how Inquisition is a rip off of some other story, with some loose connections to back up your claim.

I'll start.

Inquisition is a total rip off of Farscape.

Person given powerful magic/knowledge from an ancient source - Inquisitor is Crichton.

A large organization bent on restoring or maintaining order, even when it includes force - Chantry are Peacekeepers.

A soldier dedicated to the cause of the organization even if she technically cut ties with it, also desires love beneath her initially hard, warrior shell - Cassandra is Aeryn.

Crazy guy who is about bringing mercy and sending people over to the "other realm" - Cole is Stark.

Short person with connections and money and noble blood - Varric is Rygel (I did say this was a joke thread...)

Preachy woman who is around a lot in the beginning but becomes unimportant later - Giselle is Zhaan.

Proud warrior who loves to party and love - Iron Bull is D'Argo

Group that wants to completely dominate all life - Cory's group are the Scarrans. (Qunari are Scarrans after Inquisition)

Person with connections to dominating group, who is actually a traitor to all in order to help his/her People - Solas is Sikozu

Everyone gets to know or hear about the hero due to their unique gift. People may want to kill the hero for the gift. Hero eventually learns how to use the gift and uses it as a weapon by the end. Then the hero loses the gift in the epilogue.

Just for kicks I'll just say that Sera is Chiana and Dorian is Crais.

So, what kind of movie, show, cartoon, or whatever would you randomly claim Inquisition is a rip off of with some minor connections presented as "proof"?

That's a great comparison actually.
Though I hated Stark in Farscape and I liked Cole in DAI.

Hmm. Okay, DAI is a rip-off of Tales of Vesperia! Because:

The main boss isn't the main boss! (Coryfish/???? vs Alexei/Duke)

The true enemy is someone who seemed friendly and sympathetic for a while (???? vs Duke)

We have a traitor in the party (???? vs Raven)

We have a sketchy 'old man' with a mysterious past and hidden name! (Solas/Blackwall vs Raven)

We have a female sword and board user from a royal family, who also loves books! (Cass vs Estelle)

We have a youthful person from a guild-type-thing (Sera vs Karol)

We have someone from the lower classes who takes justice into their own hands and loves to strike back at nobles. (Sera vs Yuri)

We have a significantly under-dressed person who loves fighting with a big weapon (Iron Bull vs Judith)

We have a mage nerd (Dorian/Solas vs Rita)

Weird crystals and shizz that make people crazy (Red lyrium vs Aer springs)

Elfy people are revealed to be reponsible for something important in the story's history (ancient elves vs krityans)

Some stuff around succession and rulership. (Celene/Briala/Gaspard vs Ioder/Estelle)

The protag gets called out for taking matters into their own hands all the time. (Inquisitor vs Yuri)

A pretty woman is the best at cards (Josephine vs Judith)

Banters are just like skits but without the faces.

There are companions.

Four people in the party.

There's a spa day.

Um. There's some form of crafting?

It's practically the same game, I tell you!

This comparison is brilliant! (especially the Raven/Blackwall one)

I could add a few more to this list:

  • Cullen/Flynn - Both are involved in the military branch of an organisation and they both have blond hair.
  • Rhybgaro/Golden Halla - Both drop the item "golden horn".
  • Aspio/Circle - Both are places devoted to the study of magic/blastia.

:D

Everything from Art to TV is based on something. Nothing in the creative world these days is original. Its all on how you take them used ideas and change them into something new.

Ya, and it is fun to find all the connections and talk about them. It's another way to talk about humanity and how stories connect across all divisions.

Inquisition is a total rip off of: Captain America: The First Avenger

Corypheus is the Red Skull, both villains deformed in their quest for power, leading cult-like organizations (Hydra = Venatori) attempting world conquest. Both see themselves as gods and are jealous of the heroes as rivals. The Skull has renounced Hitler while Corypheus has renounced Dumat. Both utilize ancient mystical objects in their plans (The Orb = The Tesseract). The Skull is destroyed by the cube as Corypheus is by the Anchor.

The Inquisitor is Steve Rogers, both ordinary people who find themselves unexpectedly blessed with unique powers. The Inquisition is the SSR, paramilitary organizations that go into warzones disrupting the villains' plans. Both Steve and the Inquisitor are initially distrusted by a tough commanding soldier (Colonel Philips = Cassandra) but rise up the ranks through their heroism to lead the organization. The game's eclectic companions are the Howling Commandos. Dagna is maybe Howard Stark. Solas is Dr Erskine, who was responsible for both empowering the villain and the hero.

Get out of my head. I was already writing this damn fan fic thank you :).

Solas with the infinity gems....
