Not being able to upgrade to GOTY edition seems like poor service to me.

So the main 3 DLCs provide an experience equivalent to any 45€ game (like DAI)?

I think so. They do add up to 20+ hours.

I don't think the number of hours it takes to complete is a very good indicator of actual value, but I do think it's worth noting that all the DLCs add up to more playtime than a good number of full priced Triple A games. Though if you were to compare the hour/dollar value of the DLC to the base game, the base game comes out on top by a longshot.

As far as quality goes, I think they add more to DAI than any of the DAO DLC does. They all add more challenge. Only Golems did that for DAO. They all add new areas whereas DAO DLC recycles the vanilla game's environments. JoH makes better use of open world than most areas in the vanilla game. Descent changes things up by going for the dungeon crawl if you're in to that. Trespasser gives us a good extension of the story, Trials (new game modes), and new functionalities, including the switching between different ability bonuses in your skill tree.

To me the DLCs would be worth no more than half of the base game. The content they provide is less than this but they would need to justify the cost effort in putting them out.

In no way should the content of then DLC for DAI cost the same or more than the base game.

Just my opinion. I am willing to pay 15 on a great DLC like Tresspasser or Citadel, but not for lesser DLCs.

DAOs DLC added up to $55. The total kinda sneaks up on you 'cause there are so many. It's $95 if you include Awakening.

Anyway, considering how games are now tied to accounts (Steam, Origin), it would be nice if DLC prices were aligned with GOTY editions once they're out.

Once GOTY are out, only those who bought the base game would buy the standalone DLCs. If they didn't buy it before the GOTY got out, why should they pay the full price when it has dropped for everyone else?

Of course, people say that they can wait for some sale to buy the GOTY or the DLCs. Usually, the GOTY has better discounts than the DLCs, but that means that you buy twice the same game with the current account system, and you can't gift the new copy. It's like buying a car and not getting an engine because the seller knows you have one in your garage.

Also, why should people wait when the new price is lower anyway?

GOTY without any way to upgrade from the base game are a thing from the past, but digital copies change things...

For myself, JoH takes about that long by itself. Descent takes about 10-15 hrs for my style of gameplay, and Trespasser is also ca.15+ hrs.

As far as enjoyment, all met that goal. One of the Boss fights in JoH may be the most challenging and enjoyable in the entire DA series. The negatives are the spiders. While I did not care for the final Boss encounter in Descent, the remaining content was great, and liked the return to the Deep Roads terrain (sans Leaping Shot). And Trespasser is brilliant; an epilogue full of shinies and Willy Wonka goodness.

Sooooo............

Dragon Age Inquisition - PC Deluxe Edition( pre-ordered off of amazon) $69.96

Dragon Age Inquisition - PC GOTY Edition $59.99 (Origins software)

Safe to say that I will not be pre-ordering anything off of Bioware/EA again. In fact I am planning on waiting for an additional year so I can pay less to gain access to the full content.

And waiting nearly a year; Player's choice.

Yep. They didn't buy the DLCs at list before the GOTY came along, and they won't buy the DLCs at list now. Will the bundle actually change anything for more than a handful of players? Didn't change anything for me.

Smart move. That's how I got Skyrim for $5. (OK, I did wait a little longer than a year for that.)

That nothing's changed. If you weren't going to buy the DLCs at list, you're in exactly the same place you were before the GOTY was announced. Bio was selling DAI stuff at prices you didn't want to buy it at last month, and Bio's selling even more DAI stuff you don't want to buy this month.

That is an interesting point about DAO. I guess they had so many smaller DLCs for less that I didn't see it adding up. Though the overall effort / content is probably similar between the two games.

I think my main issue is the price of Jaws and Descent which seem to be of lower quality than Tresspasser. I did buy Tresspasser at $15 and I would like to have the rest of the DLC/items but not at $40. I'd rather buy a new game that DLC that had mixed feedback.

To me it's overpriced for what it is, and made appallingly obvious by the GOTY price. I guess my DAI experience will just remain incomplete until the GOTY is in the 20 dollar bin in a year (if I still care at all about the game at that point, as I will likely have ME:A, FallOut 4, and who knows what else I would want to spend my free time on by then. Mediocre DLC just won't compete with my time by then, money aside.

I thought Dragonborn and Dawnguard  were pretty good DLCs, although Bethesda could of done better.

Why not? I got a 91% discount on Skyrim because I didn't buy it for a couple of years.

Skyrim right now is insane. It's $40 for the entire legendary edition or $45 for just the DLC on steam. What are they thinking?

Actually I picked up the Legendary edition for under $16 when Amazon had a sale. In fact the edition is 19.99 right now on Amazon. The interesting point is that the base game is 17.99 on Amazon.

ISnt that how it works with most game companies though? pre ordering is usually always more expensive then anything that comes out a year later

This isn't true. Something has changed. BioWare lowered the total price, but only for new buyers.

The discrepancy in value between GOTY at $60 and DLC at $55 results in resentment from people like me who already shelled out $70 for the base game and clearly can see that the DLC alone is no longer worth $55 (if it ever was).

So yes, nothing has changed in that I am still not playing said DLC, but only now I'm bitter as clearly they Are throwing cheap DLC at others and not me, when I already gave them more money than new buyers ever will.

I've been playing Inquisition on my ps3. I bought the deluxe edition for $69.99 and then payed $15 for the Jaws dlc. When I get the ps4, I will get the game of the year edition. If I was to buy the stuff separate, I would have to pay $40 for dlc. I will be able to download the Jaws for free to the ps4. I would also have to buy another copy of Inquisition to play on the PS4. A used copy was selling for $24.99 the last time I was in the game store. It wasn't a deluxe edition.

So with purchasing the game of the year edition I would save $15. Since I already spent $85 dollars and then I will spend $60 for the game of the year edition, I will spend $20 dollars more than what others did who had a Xone, ps4 and pc. If I knew Bioware was not going to make the Descent and Trespasser dlc's for the ps3 before I purchased the Jaws dlc,  I would never of bought it. In that case I would only spend $5 more than what people paid

You miss the point. When you bought the base game, you were never promised free dlc. It wasn't part of the price you paid. Yes, you gave them more money, but you knew, or should have known that the dlc would be a separate purchase, as it always has been.

Players who waited get a better deal, but you've had game access for longer. This is the way its always been. As I pointed out, the Ultimate edition of DAO never inspired this level of complaint, and yet it was the exact same deal.

The goty is a different product. It promises different content availability.

Did you get your feelings hurt by the DA:O UE too?

I'm not missing any point. You are missing mine. Im not asking for free DLC. I haven't asked for free DLC once in this thread or any others about the same topic. Im asking for more fairly priced DLC, and today, given how the DLC is priced for newcomers, $55 for just DLC is not it.
