Hi,

 

recently, like many of you, I have been struggling to play on nightmare, as it was with perilous a year ago, there usually are very few people playing (PS4). Still, much better than it was on PS3.... (I migrated)

 

In my experience the majority of times I played nightmare on pugs, it was because of someone starting a public game and soloing the first waves on his own (noone likes to wait in the lobby...) other players would join him progressively.

 

Unfortunately only good players with medium high promotion levels and good gear are capable of that. Personally, a part from lego, reaver and AW, I am not able to solo any first wave on NM and will be killed before someone joins....

 

However when i play those 3, if I'm at least 15 or 16, I will start on my own and hope someone joins before I get to zone 2 or 3, if I manage to get there at all.

 

And believe me it takes me a lot of time and effort to solo the first 2 waves with the lego lol

 

So I just wanted to thank you guys for doing it, and to encourage other players as well. We need to play more nightmare, perilous isn't goo enough on terms of XP for high level characters, I don't wanna have to play 2 games to promote from lv 19 to 20.

 

If there are many people starting NM games and if gamers  usually check for available NM games first, things would improve a lot in my opinion.

To all the NM pugs who unknowingly helped me cleared the first 4 waves and 90% of the wave 5 or left me with a nearly dead dragon before I joined: thank you! I always left the match in such a hurry afterwards that I didn't have the time to show you my eternal gratitude.

Everytime I hit Join game,NM,Random,I end up in the game of the No 2.

Played already so many times with him/her,that feels like playing private match

Well some people always joins games in progress. Even in a good group they will leave to find another game in progress to score some free xp.

 

-> It is called leeching when people do that time and time again instead of sticking with a good group. At least it is not as bad anymore after there is less lobby's available. Whenever I start up a NM pug nobody joins before act 4-5 for some reason, and when they do I often need to run around ressing them all the time. 

 

I wish, that I could turn a game from public to private as host.. then I can choose to do this: "I got this far, so I do not need any "help" anymore!" <sets game to private>

Im not trying to leech (I mostly play level 20's anyway)...

 

I just like bumping from Lobby to Lobby after almost every game.  Different people, different classes, different combinations.  If I play the map with the same people running the same classes it just gets boring and predictable.  

 

If I do join a Lobby I will play (or reasonably wait if need be).  But after the game I'm bouncing.

Yeah I get what KalGerion is saying...

 

and besides I'm not that much of a hardcore gamer, my eyes really hurt after 2 consecutive nightmare runs lol

 

So I like to take a brak between matches, it's rare for me to play consecutively, the only exception is nightmare, cause it's hard to find a decent team in pugs, so when I find one I try to get the best out of it. But still 2 consecutive NM is my record so far, can't play longer, getting old lol

 

And I always call the dragon in FC if I got there on wave 3 or am the last guy that joined the game, btw, now that it comes up,

 

we need more chests with the Dragon Call!

 

Keep it in mind for the next WE challenge Bioware!

I'd love to play more nightmare, too bad BioWare has essentially forced it to be a one map difficulty and that particular map is a horrible grind fest and far more difficult than other maps.  Pity.

Yeah especially those damn bolters in zone 4 in FC in Nm.

 

They are so annoying.....

 

almost as annoying as the players who think that fighting them right in the middle of the stairs leading to zone 5 is a good idea.

I'd love to play more nightmare, too bad BioWare has essentially forced it to be a one map difficulty and that particular map is a horrible grind fest and far more difficult than other maps.  Pity.

There are people who run nightmare all day long and never get into a castle map.  There is a setting when you choose maps where it sets the maps to random.  When i set it to random it can be days before i see the castle

 

Hell, there are days when I just switch the map between tevinter and elven ruins all day long

Well actually there are a number of people who are outside US can only join matches in progress in order to not receive the "relaxed character pose" beginning and the following blackscreen of death. And it has very little to do with their own internet speed. If I use VPN to try to connect to US players, I will flee every lobby I end up in. Connecting to players of my region are much better but there aren't always matches available.

I would estimate that out of about 30 random joining attempts on nightmare I have seen one as anything other than FC.

 

The question for you would be do you have all the Hakkons or not?

You seem to be upset about how bioware forces you to run one map over and over again.....they don't, there are 4 maps to choose from....

 

Hakkons also drop from "Superb Requisitions" chests

 

I would estimate that out of 30 random creation attempts on nightmare I haven't seen one FC

 

The question for you would be do you want all the Hakkons or not?

I played one and a half games yesterday.  The first one, I search for Nightmare/Random map, and get put into a game at the Ferelden Castle.... with BlackLites.  Just because we have the ability to search for random does not mean we will get random if everyone is playing Ferelden Castle.

Some people can't host well, and even people that can may be stuck waiting 15 minutes for someone to join because so few people play Nightmare on maps that are not Ferelden Castle.  Case in point, my second game, I search a few times for Nightmare/Random, and after a few failed atempts it sets me as host.  After a few minutes of waiting, I start the game alone.  I make it to zone 4, alone.  I am sick of soloing, so I decide to grab all the gold then suicide.  Before I can do that, someone finally joins, so I decide to stick it out.  Then, after running up to where I am fighting, they leave.  I don't know if they left because it was Qunari, it wasn't Fereleden Castle, or if it was because I was only level 9 or what.  Back to my original plan I guess.

Of course he has them all.  What kind of scrub doesn't?

Darn, You caught me.....I think that was the game that I finally got the walking fortress shield that i will never use.  I still dont have the one hander though, but thats not gonna force me to run the castle every game either.

 

So I might have all the Hakkons, but I don't have all those blue/purple set weapons so i do have a reason to kill the dragon.  but I have a choice to run ferelden castle or not and i choose not to most of the time.

What would you do after you got these?  I'm guesing you'd use em for a week and the novelty would be done. The whole point of making them so rare is so there's at least something to go after, the rarity of the Hakkons and the lack of Snakebite's drop is what likely had driven you to play to this point.  Everyone seems to want to be able to get everything now.  But once you have everything... there's nothing to really play for.

1)  I am not a great host for people for some reason performance wise.

2) The wait time to get cop anions for a non FC map is much longer.

 

To get the max chance at getting a Hakkon and previously the only chance you had to play FC.  It was = fire base white geth gold as far as what map you could count on if you try and join a lobby.  I am not leet enough to take on nightmare on my own to start a game other than perhaps a class or two if i am lucky.

I refuse to believe you ran maps other than Fc before you had all of your hakkons or before they changed it so you can get higher end weapons at a minuscule chance from reagular chests.

This was the essence of what I was getting at. 

 

If I got those items I would probably do exactly what I'm doing now. Play sparingly when I feel the urge or when I want to catch up with friends.

 

The point is this:

 

I've played this game far too much already, I would feel more inclined to play if I had better odds at loot and could achieve said loot by playing the most fun and challenging difficulty.

 

The way they have the new items locked behind "chests" feels very similar to the progression system that drove away the majority of players upon release. It's a terrible system that instead of rewarding the player for their time investment makes them feel discouraged because there is no reward to be had. The most efficient way to have a shot at the reward, doesn't always involve the most entertaining game-play. Farm Threatening in the old days. Farm NM now. Upping the difficulty actually hinders your chance at loot(less gold/hour). 

 

I'm happy with DAMP. I enjoyed many many hours with good company and will probably enjoy many more. I just hope I have further rewards to look forward to. Because we all know how the slot machine RNG operates, and I doubt I'll be throwing enough gold at it to ever hit the jackpot.

I never said that i didn't run fc till I got all my weapons, I ran fc way after i got all my weapons.  I'm also not the one complaining that bioware forces us to play one map in nightmare when there is obviously other maps to play and people that do play the other maps all day long.

PUGs playing NM don't play the old maps. People in private lobbies or those who are in party chat and need an extra player or two...maybe run old maps.

 

The Dragon Weapons / Hakkon being gated behind the dragon was fine, map was still fresh. Descent items too? Not cool.

I got the Boson Blade a few days ago via the store chests.  Took about 100k worth of gold to get it that night.  Still missing the purple long sword, staff and of course the physical prot amulet.   I barely play much these days.

There is an incentive to play the Fc map that the others do not have, thus that map is what is played the vast majority of the time.  It I tried to play with you before you got the hakkons what map would I be forced to play?  FC.  When I played with friends on NM what map were they always playing? FC.  If you try and join a nm game and not be the host what map are you going to get 9 out of 10 times?  FC.

 

In essence you are forced to play that map unless A) You host and then wait for an endless amount of time for anyone to join and stay when you have selected the elven ruins or You enter and exit lobbies for 15 minutes trying to find a non FC nm game.

 

I've said it before the decision by bioware to hide those elite weapons only on that map was stupid.  It forced people to over play the map to the point of being sick of the game.  They essentially removed a proper stepping stone from Perilous to nightmare for many many people because although the dragon himself is easier than the last normal wave all other waves on FC are far more difficult than the other maps.
