Could it be considered a little selfish to want homosexual romances in ME:A?

Nothing against homosexual romances or homosexual people, but if you are creating an ark to ensure the survival of certain species just relocating and finding a new home is not enough as you have to ensure the specimens you take are able to procreate and re-populate the species and until the feminist overlords eliminate the need for males by perfecting the science of creating sperm cells from a female donor's stem cells (something that still has not been achieved in the Mass Effect universe due to the infestation of males that seem to worm their way into the setting) homosexual relationships just aren't a viable means for reproduction.

Is this a theme that will ever be explored in the new setting? Perhaps even by including homosexual romances and exploring a theme where the player has to choose between being with somebody they love and sacrificing that love for the good of the colony, with every new frontier new challenges are faced but does the good of the colony come before those you love?

Artificial reproduction with a mandate dictating that each member of the crew must donate reproductive material?

Artificial reproduction?

Oh yeah there is cloning in Mass Effect isn't there? Well at least for Krogan there is.

As I understand it, there's cloning for everyone.

This, at least, I can agree with.

Seems like the most logical route if you want the premise to be believable while still giving everyone a fair space. Donating Sperms and eggs and such via.

Select people for colonizing another galaxy judging by their health, ability and will to reproduce? What a fascism.

Bioware is known for their social realism. If best farmer in the galaxy is gay, then so be it. Sane person would never replace him with some other farmer for some illusory reproduction gains.

I much prefer a fun, engaging, action shooter with RPG elements such as companion dialogue (DAO is excellent).

Bio can leave romance in the MW...... overrated it is, as played in the ME1-3 series... Think of it this way. 95% of the game is action + dialogue + quests + exploration.  Why does anyone even bother with the 5%?

Discussion has been had, if the ark is of considerable size there aren't enough gay people (or old people or infertile people) to meaningfully impact humanity's continued existence, if their genes are desired anyway for whatever reason they can be extracted without having to procreate. Without breeding being a real, tangible need I don't really see why choosing not to would come with any real social stigma either.

The relationship between reproduction and people doing the horizontal tango would be entirely optional by this time.

And anyway, I question whether rapid population expansion is all that desirable. Certainly you don't want your population to expand faster than your economy does.

It's impossible to make a one size fits all argument for why characters, and especially romances, capture the imagination of so many of BioWare's consumers. It certainly can't be reduced to an arithmetical justification as you're proposing.

To answer a question with a question: 99% of Mass Effect 3 is content other than its ending. Why did anyone even care about that other 1%?

And here's a quote from David Gaider that addresses this question:

"To me, the thing that BioWare does best is not story but characters–I think our characters are done to a level that few other games even attempt, with an element of agency that strikes a chord in our players…and romances have been a natural outgrowth of that. Sure we could stop, but that would be turning our backs on something we do which almost no-one else does. The question would be: 'why?' And what do we replace it with?"

It's good to have preferences.

My question is more - why get your knickers in a twist over 5% of the game, when its presence or absence has no bearing on the other 95%? Just ignore it.

Yes, homosexual and alien romances should be removed from the game! Oh and while we're at it, since making babies is such a huge priority, the option to play as a female should also be removed. I mean, can you imagine fighting aliens and exploring a galaxy while pregnant? I certainly can't! Women should stay at home and raise their 248 kids. For the good of humanity of course.

Totally on your side with this, but I've come to accept the fact that this crap will never go away. So the logical outcome is for us to watch, and make sure it doesn't get more blown out of proportion than it is already.

What's to say by the time that the game's timeline comes into play, that a few generations have passed since the establishment of Andromeda's colonies?

Boom, you've already started getting yourself a bunch of new versatile people; even if OP's hypothesised restrictions were imposed.

You know even now you dont need to have sex with a female or be with one if you want to procreate that badly.

Imagine with mass effect's level of science, in a scenario like that you can easily take a bloody sperm bank with you if you really need to or have donators.

Also happier people able to do what they enjoy>>>repressed people that cant do what they desire and act out negatively due to repression. Guess which is better for populating a new planet and creating a healthy positive society.

Here's the problem with statements like this... there are tens of thousands of threads about BioWares gay romances.  I always play lesbian options b/c I'm a lesbian.  I have no idea how many people romance Sera in DA:I but many more than are lesbians that play the game.

People love to role play.

People love pretend.

People love to have options.

People play them and use them and whine if they aren't there.

BioWare puts them in there because it makes them money, garnishes them positive attention, in a world where people can be killed for being gay a video game is kind of a nice safe outlet and some people appreciate it, it will sell extra copies of the game that may not be sold otherwise.

I bought every BioWare game after I played KOTOR after on my iPad because of a brilliant piece of writing and a plot twist.  The fact that they are the only game in town that does a gay romance RPG insures my money.

Why would they give that up?

They are they ONLY game in town that does it.

They ALWAYS do it.

They ALWAYS (at least try) do it well.

What incentive do they have not to do it?

It makes them different.  They are known for it.  People buy their product because of it.

Aside from that they make amazing video games DA and ME are amazing series that look fantastic on the frostbite engine.

The homosexual thing, is a side benefit for some of us.  It matter not a whit to many.  It matters enough that they will keep it.  It doesn't hurt BioWare.  There's isn't a "Mom's Against Raging Gay Quanri".  WTF?!?

Seriously.  It's the same dead horse.  Why do you people keep beating it?

Gay romance isn't hurting you.  You don't want to play it, don't.  Are you afraid we'll see the unlock in your Keep FFS?

(Seriously, I need DA spell check.)

Bioware is still the only developer who does this to any extent, to the appreciation of many. Seems like a silly thing to be surprised at (or to take issue with - it's not like there's a shortage of great games that don't have optional romances).

Wut?

My take is that the game starts with humanity  searching for their first colony world. I remember reading that out initial choice(s) will influence how we do, later on in the game. A bad choice will bite us in the azz.  Finding rich resource world(s), asteroid belts at the start of the game will determine much of our success.

I doubt homosexual, hetero or alien romances will have such an impact..... However, I can see the romances as a placebo of sorts.

Anyway, Bio is the studio with the creative talents of writers and artists. I think they are the ones making the decisions for the new game and we should let them do so.

Is this post directed at me or are you just using my post as a springboard? Cuz I'm saying there's no reason for gay romance not be present and no reason for it to be considered 'selfish' if it is.
