As someone who played a gay male Warden and was forced to do the Dark Ritual, I can assure you, it's quite possible to be gay and procreate (and keep your loving elven boyfriend afterward).

Irrelevant - it's easy enough to take the artificial insemination/surrogacy route if necessary; all you need are eggs and sperm, which people can provide regardless of their being gay/straight/whatever.

 

I personally wouldn't factor in a person's sexuality when other options are available for procreation. What I would do is to make sure to try to weed out bigots and potential sociopaths who might go all Governor-mode on everyone (because who wants to live in the equivalent of space Woodbury?), along with people who can't tolerate living in close quarters on a ship without going cuckoo. Otherwise, what probably ought to matter most is whether or not a person has the critical technical/science skills that will undoubtedly be needed on the other side.

Let me give you brief version of Japanese history regarding that(homosexuality and repopulation):

 

All warlords in Japanese history(sengoku period especially) happened to have been bi or at least had experience with another guy once in their life, so it was hard to tell which warlord never shaged another man in his life(except Hideyoshi Toyotomi that was confirmed as someone who didn't), but other warlords that were big names in history like lord Oda Nobunaga, Date Masamune, Ieyasu Tokugawa, Kenshin Uesugi, Takeda Shingen had that "experience". You could say this was something like eh, "common" practice among warlords to be this "friendly" with their servants.(in samurais and ninjas case this "experience" was must... and I swear I can hear tears of 5 year old Naruto fan in mother's basement cry after finding out this info about real life ninjas).

Homosexuality in old Japan was normal like saying "Hi" to person on street(ironic isn't it, considering that now it is backwards lol), however you could only marry a woman and if you were warlord(or someone important like that) you were pretty much both required and forced to marry a woman in order to get heir that is going to succeed you. So as long as you done your part about having wife had some male heir you were allowed to shag anyone you wanted.

 

Now enough about history of my father's people and back to the point I want/was trying to make in here.

 

First you mixed FO4 with ME:A plot in here.

Second even if BW decided to copy-paste FO4's plot and force us to live in nearly extinct world in where we must breed like horses in order to repopulate, you can still have gay romances just fine, because just read of what I said how people of old Japan used to deal with this kind of thing.

Third this not FO4 again! In franchise like FO that kind of plot "hump like rabbits and multiple like ants" can work and makes sense because it goes with that franchise, but in franchise like ME? Seriously? It wouldn't hold water at all lol

 

So chill out about pointless stuff. There will be some kind of threat that threatens humanity and entire galaxy to go extinct, but it will be that kind of threat that we are going to need to prevent from happening. So we will get world with danger above, but not one that is disappearing from going extinct(like FO4), so don't worry, have a tea and chill as I said because no one is going to be saved/ destroyed based on who you chose to shag in here.
