Meant to post this in another thread, but it sort of took on a life of its own so here we are. Now that DAI's been out for a while, what sort of LIs would you like to see in DA4?

If we could have an intellectual like Safiya from MotB, who was adorably enthusiastic about her... morally dubious magical experiments and creepy-cute homunculi that she created 'cause she had no frenz, I would be thrilled. It probably helped that I thought she was gorgeous, baldness and all. Seriously, if we got the qunari version of Safiya, I don't know that I could ever romance anyone else. I LOVE HER SO MUCH.

Spoiler

Other than that, a barbarian-esque lady (I'd say Avvar, but we seem to be moving north so...) or a DWARF woman would bring me great joy. For those examples, I'd like someone who was a little more of a traditionalist, who's very much into her culture and how it affects her life. Triple gazillion bonus points for warrior ladies.

Also, I'd prefer a bisexual lady in all of the above instances, but I ain't picky.

For the gentlemen, it's much the same. I'd like a Dwarfy McDwarferson who's all about dat Ambassadoria, or maybe a little thuggish dude from Kal-Shirok? He's got to have an epic beard, tho.

And as always I would like a Knight In Shining Armor type who's interested in the same sex. And it'd be pretty cool to have a lady elf who's into elf dudes.

(All this is kinda hardy har hilarious anyway, since I always fall for elves. BUT STILL.)

I know there is much discussion (in fact an entire thread dedicated) to a knight in shining armour character for same sex options. However, as I've realised I have two preferences -- and sadly, one of those just happens to be the sexually promiscuous rogue types.. Sera and Isabela are two favourite characters of mine and conveniently for me, LI's. And it isn't so much to do with sexual promiscuity, it's more to do with their personalities; Isabela um.. Got around, and while I would never in a million years date somebody like that IRL I ignored that and looked at her positives instead.. She had a great sense of humour, wasn't afraid to tell it like it is and just her whole outlook in general was good. Sera is my preference.. They really made the perfect woman when they made her <3 so yeah.. Basically I'm all for a Smartarse, vulgar rogue LI

The second one I find myself gravitating towards is an intelligent, borderline evil mage with dark hair. Morrigan is also one of my favourite characters :P

And lastly I wouldn't mind something totally different. A desire demon companion. I can see it working considering we have had Cole. The desire demon could reject her evil ways perhaps and have some sort of rare humanity to her.. I won't hold my breath though.

I wouldn't say no to a spirit, who can either stay or spirit or ends up becoming a demon because you messed things up and deal with the consequences, ideally a spirit of love or purpose who could become a desire demon. As for it's gender it can shape-shift! Male, female, both whatever you desire.

P.S. Safiya was one of the most interesting characters from NW2.

So it would take the form of what is the most appealing to the player? Good idea to design them ourselves?

I can't tell if that's innuendo or a joke about the haters.

Well, I have many wishes for LI, although you may know about them, the only one I never mentioned and I do want very badly, is a romanceable villain, I don't mean like Solas, who plays to be friend and can be romanced just to reveal he wants to kill everyone, no, I mean romance a dude that you are already fighting, could work more or less like earning the Arishok's respect perhaps an Iso-Rommel would fit for that?

And possibly put an end to all the "where are the [insert here] LI options?" complaints.

Well yeah kinda, I mean it's not a real person, yet and part of the personal quest is helping her/him become more mortal in order for you to advance your relationship, if you want to pursue one. I think we should limit it to it being appearing as a human or an elf, though, gender and appearance being more fixed, i.e. if it changes into a woman and you approve it's transformation, it will remain as such and vice versa, as for appearance I don't quite know.

A guy with some angst. That's pretty much it, really. A redemption arc would be interesting, but not required.

My two favorite LIs of the series, Fenris and Dorian, have nothing in common at all except that they're both men... and were both written by David Gaider, but I can't have that for DA4, so... I really could not have have predicted that I would have liked either of these, so I'm not going to bother to even say a preference other than what I already have done.

The writers continually surprise me.

I have a lot of little wishes for love interests, but mostly I want no love interests to ever be race-gated again. There's no amount of "story reasons" you can wax to make race-gating not sound gross. It's always gross.

(Or at least, if a character needs to be race-gated because there's no time left to finish enough animations for all races, like it was Cullen's case, at the very least be honest and upfront with players from day one about it; admit that the limitation was purely technical and there's no "story reasons" for it. At least that way we wouldn't have to put up with people periodically coming into his thread to stir up that same "he's a racist!!!" nonsense.)

(Actually no, in any case, just don't race-gate at all, because Solas being race-gated to elves might have had a "story reason," but that story reason was still pretty gross either way.)

It's like One of Many from NWN2, but less undead and more bangable?  :P

We can send Morvan the Under and his gang north to hassle Tevinter.  It's quite a stretch, but that's the only good rationale I can come up with for an Avvar companion being that far north.  Which is a shame.  <3 the Avvar.

I would not have an issue if more characters were race-gated. Even though my preference would have been Solas x Adaar, I accept that it's not canonically possible. Sera not wanting to be with an elf would have likewise made sense to me, or even Cassandra wanting to only be with a fellow Andrastrian.

As for next LIs:

- "Knight in Shining Armor" + Legion of the Dead

- "Plain Jane" + girl next door + shy around PC (might be amusing if qunari)

- Scout Harding

- Awful City Elf who does not disapprove of Tevinter slavery because of his/her own comfy standing?

What has already been done several times:

-"Roguish" (Zevran and Isabella) types

-Shy, awkward boys (honestly my favorite, but we've had Alistair and Cullen already)

-Awful, forced tragic romances (it was interesting once, but now we've entered "been there done that" territory)

I forgot about the last Forbidden One who is known as the Formless One! That could be our future romance! Remember that they used to be Elves who became spirits. And if Cole can become human then surely the Formless One could become mortal again. Though chances are we'll continue the tradition of fighting the ancient beings instead of ****ing them.

For m/m LI I would like someone witty and charming as Dorian, but who's experienced in relationships and knows what he wants. So far all gay characters were pretty inexperienced in whole "relationship" thing. Zevran, Fenris, Dorian - they all unsure about "love" and "relationship". Anders was the only one who had no problems admitting that he's falling for Hawke and wanted to be with him (but he still tried to talk you out of a relationship with him).

See, I didn't mind the grossness of Solas's racegating because at least it made sense. It didn't feel out of character for him to have those... attitudes, given his background. Doesn't mean they were nice or that I don't think we should have been able to challenge them, but I got it. I agree that it's not something I'm super psyched to see again. I guess I don't mind in-universe grossness, as long as it's not supported by the narrative..? Like, I don't mind a character being racist as long as the game is clear that they're being racist. I'm not sure I said that right.

Cullen made no sense whatsoever, though. It was obviously a time and resources thing, and I wish they would've just said that to begin with.

It's like One of Many from NWN2, but less undead and more bangable?  :P

Yes... because not wanting to **** someone of a certain skin color or of a different species automatically makes you a racist. Damn.. that means I'm a racist, since I prefer white skin over darker skin.

I'd like a dwarf romance, if she's as cute as Sgt Harding.  Not into male dwarves much, Varric was an anomaly.  If Varric had been an option, I doubt I would have even glanced twice at any of the others.  Also, I know it's not there, but I really ship him and Cassie.  Adorable.

There were a ton of options in DAI from my perspective.  I'm not uncomfortable swapping genders to see new scenes.  I have so far romanced Cullen (canon) on a lady dalish, Blackwall on a lady Trevelyan, Dorian on a male Trevelyan.  Currently doing a run with a Qunari lad who has eyes on Cassandra.  While Blackwall's is a little too angsty for my taste, so far I've enjoyed all the ones I have done for DAI.

My favorite companions tend to be the charming rogues and the KISA types, and I tend to gravitate to them when I do romances when there's an option for that.  I like to keep things either 'sweep my PC off her feet' romantic or 'make me laugh and I'll love you forever'.  There's a reason I adore RomComs :D   Fortunately, my favorite (Alistair) encompassed both of those qualities in spades.
