Dwarf! Male or female. (It's time, BioWare. You held back Sigrun, Varric and Harding, but the fans have spoken. We're ready for some dwarf loving.)
Qunari female. (Apart from the novelty of even having a female qunari character in-game, I'm with Sera. Woof.)
An elf who doesn't hate elven culture, thankyouverymuch.
(Of the five romanceable elven companions we've had so far - Zevran, Fenris, Merrill, Sera, and Solas - only Merrill didn't turn up her nose at the elven community or culture.)
Honestly? A same-sex romanceable female companion who isn't a so-called "lipstick lesbian" human. Apart from how rare it is to have a romanceable female companion who's not human (Merrill and Sera are the only non-human female LIs to date, and they're both elves), it's even rarer for a same-sex romanceable female companion who doesn't have a soft/feminine/girly streak a mile wide, like Leliana, Liara, Merrill, Josephine, etc. I want the hardasses like Morrigan, Jack, and Cassandra. For once, I want a romanceable female companion who's not gentler/girlier than me.

If it were up to me:
- Scout Lace Harding as the link between Inquisition and DA4 and a bisexual female LI.
- A lesbian Tevinter mage. Calpernia would work well for this, I think.
- A blonde Dalish elf warrior who's either bi or straight. It's probably time male elves were able to romance a female elf, and there really has been an over-supply of brunettes among the female love interests in the series.
(Actually, considering all the factors, I think she should be bisexual. Nothing says there can't be two bi women in the party. Straight female characters got the 'extra' options in DA2 and DAI, no reason lesbians shouldn't have one in DA4.)
- A gay Nevaran dragon hunter! *boards KISA train, toots whistle*
- A male dwarf from the Ambassadoria. Don't personally care if he's straight or bi, but if he were bi then all the long-suffering dwarf romance fans would be able to find dwarf love at last.
- A Fog Warrior? Someone from the Anderfells? Those are both concepts I'd like to see as companions.

She's straight, or at least bi. She hooked up with Marius from the upcoming Magekiller series.

Would like something new like a Female Dwarf,Qunari,Avvarian sharmen or Female warden
But no race restriction its just annoying and not needed.
VIV being a option would also be cool.

^ So, you basically want a totally evil bastard whose only weakness is his One True Love?
[edit]
I hope that guy IS in the next game, along with Dorian, because I'd love to see how they'd interact -- I'm assuming with more open aggression than the "playful" banter between Dorian and Vivienne. I think Dorian would despise him as the epitome of everything that is wrong with Tevinter -- it would be highly entertaining.
But... you have to remember what Dorian says about homosexual relationships in Tevinter; there aren't any meaningful ones. So, if your guy is all about accumulating power and rising in society, that will be a problem that your PC and he will have to overcome.

Hey now, evil bastards need loving too. He doesn't have to be a complete sociopath with no chance of empathy. Just a cutthroat mage willing to use and abuse anyone to achieve his goals.
I do take what Dorian said with a grain of salt, he could have been referring to the homosexual vs family lineage subjecy which would make some relationships less meaningful when faced with family/political status. Doesn't have to mean all are that way in the entire Tevinter.
Hell, the evil companion could have started from nothing and manipulated his way to the top.

That's still gross, though? Just because it makes sense for the character doesn't make it suddenly not gross. I "get" it too, everyone "gets" it. It may be in-character for him, it may make sense story-wise for him, but it's still gross and I personally would rather not see that kind of sht in these games again. There are a lot of interesting romance narratives to be told in the world that don't need to involve... this kind of stuff.
Like I said, if gating has to be done because time/resources, fine, just be honest about it. We're all grown ups, we can understand time and resources not being infinite and the game needing to ship right now. But deliberately using race-gating as a narrative point? Gross. No thanks.
Anyway "no race-gating" was my one wish for love interests as asked, and I don't wanna derail the thread into unrelated discussions, so that was it from my part.
It's just realistic, regardless of ulterior motives.
What, nobody has preferences? Everyone feels attracted to all races?

Female Knight In Shining Armour: Preferably bisexual, with a personality a little like Sigrun. I absolutely adore Cass and would have loved to romance her with a woman. But I would kind of like a KISA who is a little more easy-going and can crack jokes. I don't really mind about her background, she just has to be a warrior. Any race is fine. I'd prefer a bisexual because it would be a wonderful way to break the trend of having a promiscuous party member who is bi/pan. She'd be the total opposite, a romantic who wants a courtly romance. I don't mind if she's as dorky at it as Cass and Aveline. ![]()
Male Knight in Shining Armour: Nope, we don't just need one KISA per game! DAI arguably had three in our inner circle (Cass, Cullen, Rainier). The male KISA I'd love to be gay. Someone a little like Ser Barris, full of integrity and a desire to do good. I saw some ideas on the KISA thread about a Tevinter templar who wants to battle corruption there, and I rather like that idea. Not too fussed about the race again, but human would be the preferred. Possibly a dwarf, since Tevinter templars don't take lyrium, do they? Not sure if it's too unlikely though.
Lovable Rogue: Yep, there's been at least one in every game so far. No, I'm not tired of them. Zevran, Isabela and Sera have been my canon LIs so far. I adore the roguish rogue. Someone a little flirty, mischevious and fun. A distinct lack of scruples is not necessarily required. They could be a freedom fighter type. Dorian has some of the qualities, which is probably one reason I love him. Perhaps a Tal Vashoth or Fog Warrior could work. From what Fenris described of the Fog Warriors, they seem like they knew how to have fun and express themselves, not just be all serious. Preferably attracted to female protags.
Female Mage Pragmatist: More like Vivienne or Calpernia than Morrigan. Rather than trying to amass magical power and whatnot, I'd love someone who is really active on the political scene. Someone with ambitions, where you're never really sure whose side they're on. Maybe a little haughty, sure of themselves and very focused. If Calpernia did return as a companion, I think she'd be perfect for this role. She'd also make an interesting contrast to Maevaris as a fellow party member. Basically, someone a little like Philippa Eilhart. Preferably attracted to female protags.
On a more simple basis, it would be interesting to have a female elf who's into male elves. We've had every other variant of elfy romance, so I'd like to see this one now. Especially if she's from a different social background to the PC (e.g. ex-slave vs Laetan, city elf vs Dalish). Also a dwarf, any dwarf at all. The time is now! My dwarves are tired of reaching for the stepladders every time they start dating!
Maybe also a male LI of the dark-haired or red-haired variety? Most of them tend to be light-haired. When they have hair.

Well, to be fair, blond males aren't nearly as over represented after DA: I. There have been 10 male Li's and only 5 of them were blond (that's including Fenris).
It would be nice for us to get a redhead, to be honest. Outside of Sebastian, we haven't had any redheaded male LI's. I'd rather see a good looking ginger hunk.

Well, I have many wishes for LI, although you may know about them, the only one I never mentioned and I do want very badly, is a romanceable villain, I don't mean like Solas, who plays to be friend and can be romanced just to reveal he wants to kill everyone, no, I mean romance a dude that you are already fighting, could work more or less like earning the Arishok's respect perhaps an Iso-Rommel would fit for that?
I'm with you on this! As you've said, it can't be a love interest who acts as if he's an ally and then later reveals himself to be something other than an ally. it has to be someone you know is forbidden, dangerous, and a true moral dilemma. And the romance must come to an appropriate climax.
Inspiration for Bioware:
Themistocles and Artemisia from 300: Rise of an Empire
(Though I'm not going to post it here, the love/fight scene is available online too)
Possibilities for such angst existed in DA:I in Samson and Calpurnia. Maybe next time, eh?

My male inquisitor wanted to romance Cole but no luck there. And before anyone comes in here screeching about pedophilia let me remind you all that he ends up with a woman a great deal older than he is if you choose to make him human. F*(%#$@ double standards! ![]()
Other than that I'd like to have a normal guy - not a Freddy Mercury type like Dorian or a grey skinned cow... Although to be honest the casual sex angle with Bull was somewhat of a turn on.
I have no interests in Qunaris (btw why such a big change between DAO and DAI? Sten didn't have horns) or dwarves so there.
What I'd *really* like is a twink elven male - but by Dumat BW, don't make them so scrawny! I rolled one for myself until I discovered he looked like an underfed kid - at which point I canned that playthrough.

Cole is waaaay older than any human, so there is no problem.
As for the Qunari, I have no complaints about the horns. Those beautiful and majestic horns. I just wish the character model were closer to the DA2 version, since they look rather fat in Inquisition.

Don’t know why there’s such a huge fuss about race-gating - in fact, I’d love to see more gating in general, from race to class to anything that fits the character in question. A character idea daveliam brought up in another thread was a bi male conservative mage that would marry female PCs, while having male PCs as side pieces, which I think is a great concept, but I’d even take it further and have this character only enter a serious relationship with a female human mage, while having every other class and gender be side pieces. If such gates were in place for a character like this, I would have absolutely no problems as it fits the character and adds a bit more depth to their characterization.
That said, I’d personally prefer such a character to be gay, rather than bi, similar to what BloodKaiden has in mind:
A homosexual Chaotic Evil type mage who won't betray you if you are his LI and is pro Tevinter slavery, reputation, and ultimately becoming the Black Divine with no redemption story. I want a companion that is all about furthering himself and you along with him with no apologies. I don't care if he is a Blood Mage or not, I just don't want him race gated.
However, I wouldn’t want him to be Chaotic Evil at all - just an opportunist that takes advantage of situations and people whenever he could. He’d be married, with a kid or two, but he’d be fully committed to the PC, with his wife having no problems with their relationship as long as they keep up appearances. Perhaps, his kids wouldn’t understand the situation and the PC would have to try and get along with them and explain his place in the LI’s family or something like that.
Of course, since such a character is most likely not to happen, I’d also prefer an LI that’s more on the geekier side of things. Someone who’s cute, friendly, and earnest, with a penchant for research and the sciences, like Simon from Quantico. I’d also love a charming (a gentleman, not a rogue) and friendly LI, like Rosie from Rosewood, who tends to think of others before himself and also likes to help them out whenever he can. Bonus points if they’re a PoC and as fine as Rosie, too. Basically, as long as we don’t get a gay angsty and/or roguish LI, I’m good with it.
And I also have to agree with Chiara Lavellan, in that I’d like a more “butch” lesbian for a change. Us gay guys have gotten Zevran, Anders, Dorian, Steve, and Kaidan, who have all been on the softer side of things, with a couple also being a bit effeminate. It’s time for the lesbians to also get a female LI who’s tough, aggressive and more masculine (you know what I mean so let's not go there) than the typical LI’s they get. Maybe give her some bulk like Meryl from MGSV, instead of making her scrawny like Cassandra and Aveline:

This is getting away from the scope of the thread, but I did want to reply to this.
It's not exclusively about family lineage, which is why I made the remark about "rising in society." Tevinter is ALL about image, and homosexuality is seen as "deviant" behavior. Fine, if you just want to get your rocks off with someone of the same sex, do it with a slave or whores and no one will care. But having a meaningful relationship outside of sex elevates the importance of the same-sex pairing, which is not done. You also specifically stated that your guy's goal would be to become the Black Divine, which would make him an altus in the upper echelons of society, and he would, by necessity, care about the image he projects.
One of the reasons Dorian was so f'd up emotionally was because he wanted more than sex, he wanted an actual relationship with another man that didn't have to be hidden. I think if he truly felt that was actually possible in Tevinter then he wouldn't have been quite as needful for that closeness in the Inquisitor relationship.
Now, that's not to say that there aren't homosexuals who do "do their duty" and have a (long-term) partner on the side, similar to Arl Jacen of Ferelden. BUT, the general mentality in Tevinter regarding homosexual relationships is not really conducive to that, so I imagine it's rare.
A final thought. If the next game takes place in Tevinter, I'd imagine that it will be really difficult to incorporate this aspect of Tevinter society -- already established in DAI -- and incorporate it into the romance without also giving that particular romance considerably more content than some of the others. Granted, if the PC is an altus then the player can certainly make the decision to not care about such societal restrictions, but I think that there probably should at least be some dialogue options referencing this, at the very least. I'm thinking that, simply because of the content of Dorian's romance and how it reflects on Tevinter society, that there probably won't be a similar character in the next game. If the issues were NOT raised in some fashion -- even if the NPC LI didn't care! -- then it would be invalidating Dorian's entire experience. I don't really see them making a m/m romance in the very next game with the same issues; it would put too large a (negative) focus on homosexuality and bring into the DA universe more of a sense of "othering" that these games try to avoid.
Apologies for the digression.
Back on topic... before DAI I might have wished for a dark-haired male romance option, but we got 3/4 of those (Bull has dark stubble!) in this game, which had me quite pleased. That is still my general preference, so I do hope we get at least one in the next game as well.
Even though it's not my preference, I think it would be a nice change of pace to have the m/m romance be a bearish Blackwall type.

Limitations on the engine and ability to design helmets to fit around the horns. Qunari were always intended to have horns but they couldn't implement it in DAO, so they added in a piece of the lore saying that some qunari are born without horns, marking them as "special", and that many qunari who leave the qun remove their horns to mimic this.
