You'll all be surprised when DA4 rolls out, you're still playing your Quizzy, and you're tied down with Josephine and her doll collection or Cullen and a slobbering mabari.

My Inquisitor's love interest is dead. So ... yeah.

(At least she's free to date if she ends up as the series' first returning protagonist?)

A female Tevinter mage which has a dark and sinister personality. She is not cruel for the sake of being cruel though. A bit like Morrigan just a tad darker.

Unfortunately if DA:I is an indicator it looks grim. Seems like Bioware is set on a "Hollywood" course of politically correct characters where everyone is good at their core with little room for moral gray areas. The DA:I characters where all different personality-wise and well made. But lets face it, not a single companion was anywhere near a DnD-like "Evil" allignment. Bioware should consult some Obsidian writers for DA:4.

I thought Blackwall was certainly morally gray. What he did was completely atrocious, appalling, heinous, and all sorts of adjectives. I'm not going to go against any player's RP if they decide to keep him around, I do so myself, but let's not pretend that the act itself is anything beyond reproach -- there were murdered children -- even Blackwall himself would agree.

tevinter magisters' sons and daughters don't have "love" interests. they have some very different interests though.

Dorian doesn't count? Also, Alexius married his sweetheart. It's not conventional, but neither is it a hard and fast rule that is never broken or bent. The problem with Tevinter and the altus ruling class is that the general mentality is that image is everything, and power plays influence a lot of actions and decisions. But that doesn't apply to everyone.

That said, it would be interesting to see what Bioware would do with a conventionally minded magister type. One who is willing to get married despite their preference, and maybe even one who actively seeks out certain paths to power like a politically advantageous marriage. But this doesn't rule out that person falling in love -- yes, actual love -- with someone else, but still wanting to maintain their status and conventions. What would your (general "you") PC be willing to do in that circumstance? Would you be willing to be the piece on the side, having only secret assignations and nothing else? I think the option for that would be quite interesting, and whether or not I would take it depends entirely on the circumstances and the NPC themselves.

I don't know how often the choice was taken, but it always seemed to me that the various Alistair romancers were displeased when he "dumps" you, or expressed disappointment at not being able to marry him if not a human noble, non-mage. I picked the mistress option and was quite satisfied with that for my RP, but I have very rarely seen anyone else say that that is their preference for that romance, or that they were happy with that option.

[edit]

You people wanting this power-hungry type of character had better be careful what you wish for. I don't know why you think that that writers would give you a character like that and NOT have them lead you on, use you, and then drop you. If David Gaider were still head writer I would certainly think it within the realm of possibility, and considering what Patrick Weekes did with both Solas and The Iron Bull I'm thinking it certainly could be. (I wasn't familiar with Patrick Weekes until he started work on DA.)

I love Dorian but I thought he would be kind of a jerk...but he was not , he was mostly charming.

So yeah I'm still waiting for a magister jerk , now I don't mean killing slaves and bathing in their blood ...but someone power hungry like Vivienne. Not evil but not someone who's really nice either ...

And then you find out the guy is a secret goodie two shoes , on the surface he goes "muahahmuaha" and when your back is turned he goes and saves kittens from trees.

Of course he'd have a reputation to keep so if you try to tell the world he's a teddy bear , he would stab you to death. He's from Tevinter afterall.

I am pleasantly surprised by how many posts detail the character. I really expected this thread to be mostly about sexual orientation. While there is still plenty of that, many posts are quite descriptive.

Because people want to have it all and ride off into the sunset with their LI. While there is something to be said for that after all the character has endured, I, for one, give Bioware a great deal of credit for keeping within the setting they built and not just jamming a perfect ending into it. This is why I was fine with the fact that Shepard died at the end of ME3, but not with how horribly it was presented. (Although I do think a definitive "Shepard lives" ending was warranted as well.) With Ferelden's politics, it makes sense that only a human noble could become queen.

As for your edit, I wish they would. I love the conversations with Morrigan about her ulterior motive for coming along, and potentially having a romantic relationship, with the Warden. And while it made me dislike Anders from a role-play perspective, I love that Anders tries to get Hawke to help him with his plan from a character writing perspective. I have to admit that, at least from a distance, there can be something good about characters that make you say "you bastard!" Anders gives you reason to be concerned about his actions, and hearing some lines with hindsight, it's somewhat obvious, so it's not as if you, the player, are totally blindsided.

A noble and principled warrior or rogue (think Duncan, Cullen, Blackwall, Barris, Michel, Renn), maybe a bit older (not a young pup like Alistair)... preferably human or dwarven, but any race is okay so long as he's at least a little bit handsome. And please make him available to male PCs; we've had this type before but they're always female-only and it's getting annoying.

Bioware please take note ^^

Edit: mm as in male/male? I'm straight and would hope for a female in this case but I wouldnt mind m/m either. Would instantly roleplay gay if Dorian was a true Tevinter in DA:I embracing the elitist and ideological views of his people. Too bad Dorian is a traitor to his people and does not worship our silent lord.

Ooh a Grey Warden Archer from the Andersfelts (no, not like Anders, he lived in Ferelden for most of his life). A guy, and a LI (females only)

An Apostate who doesn't betray us, blow up chantries, use us then dump us, isn't a abomination, isn't all about Mage freedom to the point they blow up a Chantry, doesn't use us to make a bomb to blow up chantry, doesn't try to destory the world, use my lover to make a kid that save my life, then run off with it, or throw a tratrum about me saying no to it and leaving my party, and lying to my face the entire game about their intentions for being there in the first place, leaving their lovers because their kids is a ancient force of 'evil'.. Have I forgot something? Becuasue I want an apostate companion whom is actually trustworthy of my time.

Rivani Seerer (An anti Isabela sort). Yes, she's anti Isabela. She's everything Isabela Isn't (trustworthy from the begining, is lawfully good, hates ships and the sea, doesn't like cheating, is always honest with us, doesn't steal stuff from the Qunari, isn't a thief, is down to earth, doesn't do threesomes, doesn't really like taverns, left the Circle legally, hates it when people hit on her). Yes, a opposite Isabela. I love Isabela and her character development, but an anti Isabela would be nice. Also Is a Spirt Healer. She's also human and straight.

A Dark KISA (Knight in Shining Armor). All of our KISAs have been morally good so far, the typical 'I'm gonna save you from a tower' sorts. I want a morally bad KISA, so that It'll get interesting. It be a male, and he'll be less morally good then others. He's also gonna be Bi (becuase... I like a bad boy!)

Well that wouldn't be a "Knight in Shining Armor" by definition. Do you just mean an armor wearing warrior?

Okay I'm curious, what's the reasoning behind specifically wanting the first two to be straight and the last to be bi? I have to be misreading this because it seems like you're equating bisexual with bad boy

I honestly have yet to see a BioWare character whose straightness really added to their characterization, although I can certainly see how those favoring 2/2/2 instead of all bi do so for reasons of believability, but why specifically want a LI to be straight? (At least if you wanted them to be gay there could be a reason there, like somehow you wanted Thedas homophobia to play into their story line, a.k.a. Dorian)

No, I was writing and that was the last thing on my mind. I went back and changed it, didn't you notice how I didn't say the apostates sexsulity? They could've been gay/bi and I made the gender and history totally unambiguous. And yes, the GW being a rogue GW was becuase we have a warrior and Mage GW already, so we need a rogue one. I wasn't thinking about sexualities when I wrote it, to be honest. I like the idea of an anti Isabela Riviani. It sounds awesome. The Rogue GW is a not very nice looking man, with a scared face and he's an older gentlemen in his mid thirties , and he's also like Robin Hood besides he got caught and was consriped into the GW.

The Dark Knight Xaver Williamson was the second son to a lord in Orlias, as a young man, he was happy and studious, but with a darker edge. He was cunning under that mask, which made him a deadly foe to his older brother. When their father died when he was 19 years old, he was exiled from their village. But luck found him in the next village when he was drinking beer in the next village. In the form of a young, handsome man. He was attracted to the man, and eventually they became lovers. Things went bad when his brother heard about his existence in the next village and soon after, his lover died to save him. Soon after, he went into a sort of a stupor, refusing to talk to anyone and then making his way out of the village, he left Orlias to find his own path. When a young woman living a solitary existence was found by him, he realizes that he attracted to the woman, and began slowly putting his heart back together when he realized his second lover was dying of a disease that not even healers could fix. She died a year later, in her mid twenties. By this point, Xavier stopped carrying, and went to Tevinter, more as a get away from everything then anything else. He is found by your first companion, a young Mage Gracylnn Rivers, in a bar, his face covered in a brown hoodie. When the man took off his hoodie, he had stunning green eyes and short, milatary cut chocolate brown colored brown hair. He is a Dark Knight, so he's willing whatever he needs to do to kill his brother... Whatever the price may be. He's also a bit of a dick, keep in mind he suffered greatly, so he'll try betray you and not even care. He is actually a morally bad person, and broken to the point where it's very hard to get approval from him. Yes, I want a Dick LI that's a warrior. I was thinking of his relations with the rest of the crew, and I image he'll be attracts to William Smith (the archer) who doesn't exactly take well to him. He'll also be flirty with Mrs Graclyn, who denies him. But the other guy (Orion or Stormhunter) who is gay, whom he'll also be attracted to, will probaly end up having an affair of both angrier and being attracted too, but it'll be like Isabela/Fenris type things, whilest the apostate Wizard will be from the Free Marches, he'll be a blind Mage that is about in his twenties, and he'll use his magic to feel his way around. And he'll be non romancable, but he'll still be flirted with (even though Xaveir still has some common sense... Apperately). The Apostate will think it's a joke and continue on. The next Mage will be a humor packed Apostate as well, as a rogue Saarabas, she is done with games and hates the Qun with burning hatred. She is a female only romance. And he'll leave her be when she throws him against a wall with stone punch. So there, I'm finished!!! Yay! It took my hours to finish it. My Dark Knight is suppose to be the exact opposite of Cullen and Alistair (he's no goodie two shoes chantry boy like they are... No offense, I love them! He's like them if they decided to go dark and flirt with everyone. )

If I were to choose an ideal romance it would have the following traits:

-Plot-relevant(like Alistair, Morrigan, or Solas)

-Confliction about romancing said LI(Fenris with mage, Sera with an elfy elf, Anders with a pro-templar Hawke)

-Personal(there would be party banters about it, you could have conversations about where you see the relationship going, how people at home would react, etc)

-Someone you could have a future with(Morrigan is the best example, you can have a kid with her and all be a family, Alistair with a married warden noble)

-Character Development (occurs dramatically with romance/friendship like Morrigan, preferably from Dark and Hard to Light and Soft)

I also wouldn't mind romancing someone with a big heart like Cole, if a human Cole had been a romance option I would have been all over that.

Carrying on my thoughts...

A Frog Warrior/Avvarr Human Male. Warrior, two handed. Gay. And he'll be a good KISA too. And by the way, i understand the gay/lesbian community, as a kid with asbegers (which is on the austim scale). I really do, so in honor of that, this KISA will be a handsome man with black hair and bright grey eyes. He'll also be 30 years old, exactly.

Scout Harding! No explanations needed.

And non romances include...

The Sentienal Rogue Lady Elf (she is too posh and old for you. She knows Abelas as a mentor... Or maybe even more then that)

Shale as a Dwarf. I love Shale, I want her to be my companion again. She's a warrior, she is a sword and shield companion.

A pet baby Dragon. Aw, I know it'll never happen, but one can hope, right?

That is not impossible, it's a baby, what you can be sure never happen is one of the big ones (although you can have a girlfriend that can turn on one of those a decade later, but since she is not party member any longer she doesn't count.) And if we have her sister on the party or professor Frederic as advisor (somehow) they could increase the odds.

Ah, I wish there was a character with Austism, but sadly that'll never happen. Because I'm pretty sure that that character will get all sorts of hate about being different. I don't like talking about my disorder(s), to be honest. But i image that if a certain character did have austim that it would be less received by people like me then any other character..... And actually, I don't want one. It would be like displaying my fears in a video game. So yeah, I understand Dorian. Poor guy, being opposed by his sexuality. He's such a charmer too. I love Dorian, he seems the most real to me, to be honest. Although his storyline is a bit cheesy to be honest, I love his personality.

I like a lot of the ideas here. :D

On the subject of racegating: I would prefer that if it had to happen, that it stays at a minimal. The problem with racegates is that it tends to block out the obvious races that haven't yet been thrown a bone (Dwarves and Qunari). As a result of racegates and some sexuality choices in DAI, female Lavellan pretty much had a buffet of LIs. Like others have said, the Solas racegate made perfect sense but the Cullen one did not. Maybe they should've clarified it more with Cullen in game or just said up front that it was due to technical issues.

As for the actual more fun topic, I would like to see Bioware do some reversals on popular tropes/stereotypes they've been using. My preferences:

- gay shy male human templar - they've been in every game, time to let the guys have some fun ;)

- straight serious human male assassin

- bisexual looks-like-a-cinnamon-bun-but-can-kill-you female dwarf ranger (OR ANY DWARF PLS BIOWARE)

- bisexual sort-of-serious female qunari - maybe they just left their qun homeland for the first time

- straight female elf mage

- bisexual male dwarf warrior (2 bi dwarves? why yes I can dream)

My balance is off right now, might add more after I had some cafeine.

That's one of the reasons why I'm so grateful for Bull as a character. He's visibly disabled, has one eye, is missing two fingers, wears a leg brace... it's nice to see a mercenary's dangerous, violent life have the physical side-effects you'd expect. (Well, not nice... you know what I mean!)

You people wanting this power-hungry type of character had better be careful what you wish for. You think they'd do it? I've been hoping FOR YEARS! Someone power-hungry, evil and most of all unapologetic. "I know. And this is just losing." "Don't feel bad. Happens to the best of us."

We've had quite a few chances to be dumped, and quite a few chances to romance evil characters (or, rather, characters who've done questionable things - killed kids, innocents, defenseless friends, that sort of thing). But it was all about "Oh, I'm so sorry, I still love you, I'm really a good guy with a Purpose", blahblahblah. Give me someone who doesn't stumble and mumble, who knows what he wants, and isn't ashamed to be a monster! I love Anders and Solas, and I understand some people might like Alistair and Blackwall, but what I crave is really something different. It's what you're suggesting here.

I love passion, temporary alliances with charismatic villains without a shred of conscience, and if it ends in "bye, dear, see you again some time... or not", gods, please! Just give me a decent script and a great voice! Or, rather, a great script and a great voice.

(which is to say, I'd like this romance for my female human or elven protagonist, and with a human or elven guy).

That seems to be a general Bioware rule when they're writing an alien (basically) as a party member. Garrus was scarred, Mordin missed one of his head thingies, Legion had a hole in his armor, Bull missed an eye, Oghren had a special haircut...

Well being blind is a pretty severe disability. As you said, the Fade could make a blind mage pretty interesting. Especially if they worked with a Spirit or Demon to get some sort of "sight" in the world around them, maybe like how the world is seen when someone wears The One Ring from LotR. I am all for something like this that adds to the character and uses the world. I am not in favor of "I have this condition IRL so I want a character that has it."
