Are ability damage rings still broken?

Sorry for posting so many questions lately, havent played DAI in such a long time so I'm not really updated on this stuff. Just wondering if the ability damage rings like "30% shield bash damage" are fixed. IIR - they were broken before. If someone is using a wide array of skills I'm assuming that a ring like +10% attack is superior. But for someone using very few bread and butter skills, wouldn't ability damage rings be superior? Like 30% fire mine ring, EB, deathblow etc.

So yeah. Do ability damage rings work now, and if they do is there a reason not to use one over something else like 10% attack ring? I'm also wondering if these rings are calculated in an unfavorable way when it comes to damage calculation or if the damage is a flat increase.

I'm on my phone, otherwise I would just bold the part about Energy Barrage. Although the Energy Barrage ring is supposed to boost its damage by 30%, it doesn't even give you 20%. It's not even remotely worth it if you have other high quality rings to use. Shame that (as far as I can tell), there's no damage rings for Immolate and Fire Mine in single player. And yet, there's a damage ring for Winter's Grasp. This makes sense how? lol

I think most are fixed and you can double check if it does something by going into abilities when you equip the ring and it will tell you the % modifiers.

there are still a few exceptions though. like hidden blades ring (I only have it in multiplayer not sp) for instance actually doubles hidden blades damage or something like that instead of just boosting it by 30%.

The rings always worked (well, most of them). The few rings that didn't (like the barrier ring) were fixed quite some time ago.

The bonuses don't always do what you'd expect, however, and as such, they're not always reflected in the ability description (you also need to have the character selected before opening the menu to have their screens update correctly). You probably want to test a ring out in combat before committing to it.

The bonus is there for Energy Barrage, but due to the way damage is calculated for that spell, it's almost entirely imperceptible (you'd never be able to tell it apart from the normal random variance).

Also, the mine rings have a silly duration buff that tries to extend the length of the mine itself (which ends up doing nothing, since they sit around forever anyway).

As noted, it all works. It just doesn't always do what you'd expect (or want) it to do. :)

Wait, so does that mean you can't check in Skyhold? That's a pain.

EB's listed damage in the skill screen is normally 66%. With the skill ring, it's 78%. That is less than a 20% boost in damage, since 12% isn't even 1/5 of 66%. Pretty simple, unless the tooltips for abilities are not factual (which would be pretty bad oversight on the devs' part).

It also doesn't help that the skill rings added to MP that affect SP skills weren't added to SP (seemingly). It sure would be nice to get a Spirit Blade ring for my Knight Enchanter.
