is it true that u can't have more than 80% dam resist?
If so why flask of frost give u 85%?
This is very unreasonable

You can't go more than 80% magic/ranged/melee DEFENSE, resistance is different

Ok so what's the difference?
If I take 100 damage with 80% defense and than take frost flask I will take 15 damage?

That is a question for Wavebend most likely. He should be popping up soon xD but he would know the formula better than myself
Just know that resistance has less of an effect, at least I am sure it does

There is a thread under the sticky thread that gives the formula.  Look under Damage Calculation

Ok, so defense and resistance appear to apply multiplicatively.  Two separate reductions to incoming damage, nice.

The formula refers to damage resistance as "magic_resistance," as if resistance only applies to magical attacks.  But then you have stuff like the Avvar's Chilled Defense passive that gives 25% "damage resistance" and would seem to apply to all types of damage.  Does anyone (Wavebend) know if such generic "damage resistance" is applied to the "defense" or "magic_resistance" part of the formula?

Neither of both?

Damage resistance internal stats:

  • stat_damage_resistance_all
  • stat_damage_resistance_barrier
  • stat_damage_resistance_cold_modifier
  • stat_damage_resistance_electricity_modifier
  • stat_damage_resistance_fire_modifier
  • stat_damage_resistance_physical_modifier
  • stat_damage_resistance_spirit_modifier
  • stat_damage_resistance_guard
  • stat_defense (caps at 80.000)
  • stat_defense_all_front
  • stat_defense_magic
  • stat_defense_ranged
  • stat_damage_taken_multiplier

Flask of frost applies a 85% modifier to stat_damage_resistance_all, while Avvar's Chilled Defense applies -25% to stat_damage_taken_multiplier

Flask of Frost is good

Chilled Defense is good

Rage of the Avvar / Livid is good.

Ice Armor is good

Horn of Valor / Armor buffs are good

How it works ...

Question to add: I know how defense works. But then we have damage resistance and sometimes damage reduction. Is BW just using two different words for the same thing or what is it? Kinda confused :D

Like on the Avvar: Chilled Defense gives you damage resistance while Rage of the Avvar gives you damage reduction.
