Avenger is like the lancer from gears its always gonna be there its one of the iconic weapons.
But its not that great i would take the harrier or mattock any day over the av.

ME3 Lancer will always be my favorite. Great all around stats and regenerating ammo is hard to beat.
So, what the hell is the purpose of the upper barrel?
I thought it might of been part of the gas operating system of the weapon, However the weapon sheers off from a solid block of ammo so that idea is redundant, so it could maybe be a heat suppressor or a stabiliser of some sorts.

And do you think having a Harrier, right at the start of the game, might possibly make the game a little easy?
I actually think the Avenger is a very well designed and balanced weapon. It suits its purpose as the first assault rifle a player will get very well.
You can't go wrong with Jessie.
Avenger is a good weapon to use on the SP but it's very weak when using it on the mp...
Anyway, I want more exotic weapons (apart from a few collector and prothean weapons everything else uses termal clips).
I prefer the Mattock. Good weapon

I never said i want to start the game with it i do want a challenge just if i had to pick a weapon for SP or MP it would not be the AV.
As for making the game to easy i beat ME3 insanity with the predator its a very easy game to begin with so having the harrier is just to have some fun or maybe speedrun.
If you are starting the game for the first time i agree you should not start with them guns.
I mostly played Infiltrator and loved my sniper rifles. The Indra was the best, hands down, but my favorite was the Geth Javelin. Loved that gun.
I've got some love for the Avenger though. Shepard having it default equipped in cutscenes bugged me, so I ran with it on a few missions. It's a good all rounder weapon.
i already started a thread about it. i'll be super mad if i have to start the game again with avenger/katana/predator/shuriken level 1.
i want many weapons available from the start, and different weapons not just weapons with different weight or damage output. same for gear/weapon mods. I dont want everything to be available from the start but for the 4th time i don't want to start from scratch again.
Also from my point of view is that it wont fit into the story. we have an arc and are sent into an unknown galaxy. It'spretty much obvious for me that i will not be sent with the crappiest eqiupment available. Or if i'd be a commander/general/whatever i'd try to make sure the mission ends with success, that means at least above average equipment.
I don't mind having to start the game with a gun like the Predator or Avenger. I might be in the minority here but I actually really like the Predator pistol. I hate the Shuriken though, but I'm not a fan of pulse/burst weapons. What I'm hoping, however, is that NG+ returns and we can use whatever we want from the very beginning in a subsequent playthrough.

you have the harrier right at the start of ME3. actually with the dlc's we have typhoon, venom, harrier, acolyte, kishock sniper rifle, executioner pistol, hurricane, valiant and crusader available from the start of Mars. Once you equip the mantis by the first dead marine you can already select those guns.

with ng+ the magic is gone. i mean the magic of playing the game first time. I want the first playtrough as much of a fun as its possible. I'd rather fight stronger opponents with stronger guns from the start, then weak enemies with weak guns.

The Katana is a good weapon. Gold worthy and not just because of the omni blade.

ok, Katana and Mantis are good indeed. But still, way too heavy as a level 1 starting weapon.
What you need is just a console command and you can have all the equipment you like.
Is not the greatest weapon the galaxy has ever known... it's just the most common. And I was super disappointed about how crap it was in ME3, a proof that weapon balance was awful.
And I don't think the Lancer is actually any better than the Avenger. According to the lore the Avenger it's produced by Elkoss Combine which is a company that produces less expensive versions of other weapons. Knock-offs, but it doesn't say anything about their quality being crap. In fact in ME1 the Avenger was better than the Lancer.
If they were to bring both weapons into Andromeda I say they split the difference, make both weapons be similar in stats but maybe the Avenger should have limitations in attachments or stuff like that, and being cheaper to acquire (if we'll actually have to buy our weapons).

I used it quite effectively with the Turian soldier (because of the extra damage and the Marksman power) in ME3MP, due to its relatively high RoF and decent accuracy, Marksman improve this even further.
As long as it isn't the ME2 version.
That weapon was dreadful.

Based on my play style:
The Indra
carried by the human Soldier class beats the Avenger any time. I can kill an Atlas with two clips with the AP ammo and a couple of concussive shots. You tap-tap ( a Guardian at scope range and he dies....
The Mattock
Is good but constantly tapping my index finger to shoot is a pain in the azz.
The Talon
Excellent heavy pistol for the Vanguard class when up close. Fire rate and magazine size is too slow and low, though.
A more important question will be "will the rifles shoot from the correct part of the model in this game, unlike ME3?"

oh please, Turian Soldier turns every weapon with the marksman power great. No matter how shitty accuracy or rate of fire a gun has, marksman will do wonders with it.

Predator too. Great DPS whose only real weakness is armor, which is easily bypassed by using a piercing mod, in which case the only thing between you and glorious mayham is ... you.
The ME3 Lancer is absolutely killer. The Avenger is completely mediocre, if not on the weaker end. The only way it's semi-decent is on the N7 destroyer (in MP), with the firing rate bonusus from Devastator mode.
Assault rifles should be very deadly, I didn't understend ME3 aproach, hand guns exploding heads and assault rifles doing nothing. Damn it MP, weapon balance sucks.
On MP each character, but the soldier, should have on side weapon slot plus a main weapon slot, no cooldown penalty as well.

I don't really see NG+ taking away from that. In any case, a higher difficulty should be sufficient for this.
