And here I thought calling something "worse than Hitler" was just hyperbole.
People think it is hyperbole or trolling but is how I see life. I (as stated thousands of times here) do not believe in will, decision or anything else. I believe we answer to stimuli like robots, I don't believe in identity. So for me a "person" (if such thing existed) is a collection of stats. There is nothing but what that "individual" (I don't believe in individuality either) do. So since I don't believe in identity and choice things like story, decisions and others that are really important to most RPG players bear no relevance for me. A character "story" are their stats, if they have wisdom or charisma it dictates how they respond to situations. DAI is hell for me because is a game that supports the fantasy of will where a character can "choose" what to do with no relation at all to their stats, which is stupid. Robots only answer according to what they were programed to. "electronic" robots or "organic" robots, it doesn't matter, there is no such thing as choice, only action and reaction. I understand human beings need to believe that because they can't predict the outcomes with precision this means there is room for choice, and ok, whatever, but for me it is like talking about santa. So well, that's it. It is not hyperbole, it is that since I see beings as robots only their features (stats) matter, this fantasy of choice is even more fantastical than magic or spirit world for me, and thus utterly useless unless tied (dependant) to stats which is an acceptable representation of conditioning for me. If I was conditioned by monks and developed wisdom it is ok to answer "wisely", that's what I was programmed to. I know RPGs can't really make it perfectly but I was happy enough until DAO. (And I'm very happy with how Pillars of Eternity did it, I feel very robotic and conditioned there, not only by stats but by race, origin, background, and so on, PERFECT)
I disagree. It is for me the most relevant thing. I will often play and enjoy games that have sub par gameplay (Alpha Protocol, the way every enemy spams Immunity in ME1) in order to enjoy their story.
Good for you? There is no agreeing or disagreeing when it is about preferences. It is not "disagreeing", it is you liking a diferent thing. And it is 100% ok. I fight for what I want, you fight for what you want. There is no relation at all because what I like does not matter for you, and that's how it should be, and what you like doesn't matter for me, and that's how it should be.
