How old are you? Have you never played older 16-Bit to 32-Bit games like, say, Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike/Soviet/Nuclear Strike? Though they are 3/4 overhead helicopter shooters.

It's called an isometric viewpoint.

They have two gamepad options; the one that mimics flight movement - a la old Resident Evil, complete with inverted y-axis for aiming your nose. The other type is basically mouse control. Whatever direction you aim, is where you go (I have no idea/memory as to how you'd aim your nose in this mode either? Maybe auto-aim made it's debut here?).

I wish these were on Xbox Live

I do invert the Y axis.  Like others here, it's probably because I played flight sims in my younger days.

I think of the Y axis as "forwards" and "backwards", not "up" and "down".  When I push "forwards", I am tilting my character's head forwards, and want them to look down.

Your post is giving me a headache. No to inverted or not inverted? Because I need to know if I should give you a like or not.

Hi TF.

No, I don't invert Y on the PS3 for ME MP.
A qualifier is necessary since the question and your parameters might be non-causal.

I cannot state "anymore" since in the past it depended on some internal comfort factor for me to switch the y axis - (Probably some negative result to being selective ambidextrious -never knowing for sure).
B4 the Y - swapping depended on the utility factor of the task at hand you graciously explained to peanut (gato class submarine vs ancient art of war(@ sea) vs ms flight sim).

PS. Oh yes - on a possible cause of the headache -interestingly everyday double negation is practiced in specific languages : Italian, English, Portugese, Spanish, Russian, Persian. In contrast, languages like German, French, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese uses it much less, and if so, extremely carefully to be polite.

Fun experiment: if you want to witness classical reboot behaviour from a German, during gameplay , try stuff like this :
double negative.

Inverted all day baayybee!!

I've never made the change from when games had the controls inverted as standard.
And, in generations to come, gamers will be able to tell our age solely because we still invert. I predict we will be known as 'The Last Inverters!'.

The first thing I do now before starting any new game is to visit options - invert - add subtitles.

Pure evil. I guess those church people that keep coming around my neighborhood to get me to go to their church are right. The devil is real & walks among us. I know who you really are, Lucifer.

Always so technical. But yes, that's an affirmative.

You too a fan of these games? Excellent.

Good grief. Good thing I read this before shutdown for the night. I need lay down a minute... I feel like that AGN title card from chronologically confused episode;

Well, this post set me straight again. But I'm still shutting down for the day. So much drama... but yes. All must convert to invert. Do it now. ... Got to go, Kitty is very hungry and won't let me type anymore...

My favourite = Empire (ascii based) written by Walter Bright for a PDP-10 at Caltech. {PDP-10 =mainframe}. Of course no joystick support although people at MIT and Caltech played it for years. And if some don't know Caltech - nevermind - no fuss.

Whoa. Just hold on a minute.
Something in that long sentence just doesn't gel. Next thing you're going to tell us : that you don't like Francis Ford Coppola and Charles Curtis doesn't ring a bell.

No.

Flying games sure pull back on stick means you are leaning back in your chair and looking at Sky do that moves you up. And pulling back in stock looks the same as pushing Down on controller. Pushing forward on stick leans you forward so looking at ground and that is the same direction as pushing up on controller.

If I want to look or shoot up it feels more like pointing while standing. So pulling back or pushing down feels like you are pointing at the ground so down=down. Same for up up feels like up.

That's my insanity. Flying you are seated so down is more a pullback so you lean back. Shooting you are standing so down just is down you aren't pulling or pushing you are just pointing.

iPhone typing skills at yo finest.

Try DCS, the choppers are a treat to fly. The A10, too - and it's got cluster bombs. Even guided ones for BSN scrubs.

I think I have played it before.  I always preferred Gunship and the sequel (Apache helicopter simulators) and the F-19 Stealth game.  My first was F-15 Strike Eagle.

Oh this...Gunship...loved that game, ZX Spectrum 48k, I miss that beast!

Yes I'm an older gamer, I invert Y.
