Why does everyone use the british voice for a human inquisitor

For males, I use the American one. I don't like the British one.
For females, either is fine, but I prefer British.

I prefer the American voice, but if you try to do a mage human is horrible.
The human and elf looks really soft, at least you are using a ugly male human warrior the american voice isn't logical.

Humans don't speak with American accents.
of course, I've never played a male human in DAI, so I have not used the british voice myself. I like the American voice... on a Dwarf or Qunari.

Yeah, I always guessed the Orlesians, Antivans, Nevarrans etc were aliens. At least... ![]()

Maybe some feel the american accent doesn't quite fit. John Wayne in Downtown Abbey?
Personally I like the english voices because the female is more 'female'. Usually for elves. A mature female gets the voice of Sumalee. Mature or older women often have a deeper voice.
The english voices are more polite and 'correct'. The american more brutal and 'boastful'?

play over 100 hours with your first character using the american voice.
then get to skyhold and see that you have the transsexual bug where you are male but everyone thinks you are female.
now try and use the british voice.

My human male mage has the english voice because that's the voice that suits that particular inquisitors personality better, same reason my female elf has the american voice and my female dwarf the english, despite those not being the default for those race/gender combinations.

What does people thinking your character is female have to do with the Brittish voice? (I've never had this bug)

Since English accent is the default for a human Inquisitor, I imagine some people prefer not to deviate or don't realise you can. I also think that the (female) English voice sounds a lot younger, whereas the American voice sounds older. So which one I pick depends on the age of my Inquisitor as much as their race.
I haven't tried the American male voice yet. I had it on a human Inquisitor for a short while but had to re-start. He had a much too boyish face for such a deep voice. It was like the auditory equivalent of a little boy trying to wear his dad's jacket. ![]()

In terms of over all quality, going from personal playthroughs and videos I've watched, I'd rank the female british voice as best, followed by the male american, male brit, and female american at the bottom; she's serviceable, but rather dull.

I just use what fits my idea of how my character would sound. So far, I've used the British voice for my humans and elves. When I made my female qunari I tried but didn't care for the American one. The British one doesn't work well either to my ear, too dainty seeming for a big hulking Amazon warrior. The American voice worked really well for my male Qunari, though. I have yet to make a dwarf. My least favorite race in DA, mostly because the camera angle is really skewed. I'm having enough troubles playing a Qunari and looking at a lot of the scenes with torso filling the screen and head cut off by monitor.

I use the American female voice, mainly because most of my characters are either dwarves or Qunari. While I do like the voice, I much prefer the British but it just isn't fitting.
Another issue I have is with the elf - one of many trivial reasons I never play as one, is because either of those voices just don't fit. The posh British accent just doesn't fit it and neither does the American, really.

I think he's quite sexy, and I love this little laughing thing he does when he's amused.
Omg the "let's do something interesting" with Dorian when he suggests that they go watch the Inquisition soldiers train so he can criticize their uniforms and the Inquisitor says, in a laughing manner, "What's wrong with their uniforms?" gets me every time.

Female Inquisitor - British no doubt, the voice actress is superb.
Male Inquisitor - American without a doubt. Not because he is superb, but because the british voice actor sounds all over the place. I don't know what happened but the british voice for male is awful. The emotions are completely off, sometimes you say a joke and sounds like its the end of the world, sometimes it feels like its the end of the world and he sounds like he's making a joke. Something terrible happened there. Dunno if its the actor or if it was the directing, but there are some really awful moments with british male inquisitor. My first playthrough i went with british, halfway thru I had to start over because I couldnt stand it anymore. And i always like british accent more than american. In this case, american voice actor takes the prize.

Hearing an American accent in Thedas does feel a little out of place sometimes, but I can live with it. For me, it just comes down to what suits the character. My main canon is a female elf mage who is in her late twenties/early thirties and I've been using the British voice for her...until last night when I went to the BE and tested her with the American female voice and was surprised at how it suited her much better. The contrast of having this (relatively) young, willowy elf speaking in a deeper sort of voice gave her more of a personality. Tough and sassy.
I've tried the female American accent on other characters before, and it was never my particular favorite...until I gave it to my canon elf. I personally like the male British voice the least
; I find it sorely lacking; I wish it was deeper, rougher. I'll say that now...until I make a character that suits it, so we'll see.
