Morrigan was distant at first but she became a real friend to my warden in the end. Her "Live well, my friend, live gloriously." broke my heart in dao. :crying:

But apparently, BW didn't think it's enough so they pull this off in dai once again with more traumatizing effect. " I would treasure the chance to be wrong once again, my friend. Live well, while time remains. " It just ruined me. Totally.

Seriously, what's this about whole LIVE WELL quote? How they even remotely expect us to LIVE WELL after what they did to us?

I'm not saying I hated it, I loved it of course, but still. I'm just amazed with BW's ability to make the most traumatizing angst even in the friendship. Why our friends always have this ulterior motives that possibly could destroy the entire world.

Right!?

I imagine my poor little one-armed ex-Inquisitor spending the years worrying, obsessing, pouring over maps instead of sleeping, developing an eating disorder, an addiction to some kind of unhealthy stimulant, and stress-induced alopecia due to worry about finding Solas before he does the dirty deed.

Maybe if Solas wants the Inquisitor to "live well" he shouldn't have told her he was going to destroy everything and everyone she loves.  <_< Yeah, she's really gonna go off and have a nice relaxing life after that.

They're being ironic. What they really mean is "lol, try having a nice life now, sucker".

I honestly think Solas told us his plans so we could stop him. Living well is his way of saying "live so we can meet again and you can change me (save the world)" at least that's what my Trevelyan felt.

Could this be how BioWare hint at a protagonist making another appearance?

This was said to the Warden. Warden didn't make an appearance.

This wasn't said to Hawke. Hawke made an appearance.

This is now said to the Inquisitor. Following the pattern, the Inquisitor won't make an appearance.

I've done gone cracked the code! Everybody buy me a beer!

Yeah.. I have a fear this is actually true. As in.. I'm really scared that their "Live well" hints at the fact that they will not be making a reappearance so the person is wishing all the best for their remaining life.. like a "farewell" basically.
Then you never hear of them again so all you can do is to fill up the void with your imagination and imagine that they indeed did live well.. D:

Lets wait and see. It's probably not true, but if it is, I can totally say I called it.

I'm reluctant to read too much into it as of yet.  My inclination is to believe that it's simply a way of showing that the speaking character has come to value the person as a friend, perhaps against their own expectations.

I don't really think that Solas expects the Inquisitor to spend the next few years relaxing until the Veil comes down.  I took it more as a turn of phrase rather than a sincere piece of advice from Solas to his friend.

That's how it is in real life. People destroy you and tell you to live well. And of course, after they destroyed and crushed you if you get sad or mad you're childish. So just go with it, pretend it is ok. I got used to it in my teens, there is no shortage of Solas and Morrigans in real life.Later in my 20s I was the one hurting people. So yeah, be either breaking or being broken it is very realistic. Pretty much how it goes.

Good! I don't want to! The Inquisitor should have a Duncan moment (death at a battlefield). So that I can stop thinking of the Inquistor as a Marry Sue. It really needs to end, but my Canon Inquistor can remain a Marry Sue while my others die horribly. I probaly wouldn't even mind if they did that, to be honest.

I kind of hate the idea that a hero has to either die or disappear into the sunset in order for a new character to come into prominence.  I think it would be nice for the Inquisitor to take a step back and remain a prominent figure who nonetheless isn't on the front lines anymore, both because I like my Inquisitor and because I feel like too many heroes are forced into a blaze or glory death or "and they were never seen again" type of deal.

Telling someone to live well when you plan on destroying their entire world is kind of messed up when you think about it.

And he says it with such remorse but if that were truly the case, he wouldn't do it.

Actually I think his viewpoint is that of Felix; everyone dies eventually so it is how you live in the meantime that is important.    So to his mind he is giving you a few good years to "live well" before you die.     Of course that overlooks the burden he has placed on you since you now know what he is going to do and if you just sit back and enjoy yourself, you are condemning millions of other  people/creatures to die before their time.     May be giving you the hope that you can change his mind/prevent it in some way is his way of mitigating this effect.

Grey Wardens only have a limited time available to them.  If the darkspawn don't get you, the taint will.   So Morrigan's "blessing" is really only acknowledging that the best you can hope for is to "live gloriously" since you are never going to enjoy old age.

I also took Morrigan's parting words to mean "Now you have the opportunity to live well after this is done, so make it a good life".

Solas...I just took it as a parting shot.  "Live well what time remains".  As if the Inquisitor is ever going to get a good night's sleep after what he's said to her. <_<

Interesting parallels between the two.  I kinda got the vibe that Solas saw Mythal as a mother figure or mentor in some respects.  There didn't seem to be a romantic vibe there.  So we have the two 'children' of Mythal with mirroring scenes?  No WAY that is coincidence.  Remember, Morrigan started off as this snarky, do evil unto others type.  She absolutely HATED helping others, and disapproval was her natural state.  They have a shirt, for Pete's Sake! :P   On the other hand, we have Solas, who started off as this friendly but distant apostate who practically BLEEDS approval at every step.  Yet in the end, he's so focused upon his goal that even to a lover, another elf, or a FRIEND he comes off as haughty, prideful and dismissive.  Both tell you to live well if befriended, and BOTH deeply desire friendship in some form...Morrigan, who never understood it, and Solas who was alone for so long that he craves it.  Yet, at the end of Inquisition...Morrigan is a profoundly changed woman who had a nice helping of Humble Pie (the rest was downed by dear sweet Fiona, who was given a much larger share seeing as she did EVERYTHING she could to EARN herself a slice, DIDN'T she?).  Solas?  No matter what, he puts himself on a course of self destruction...oh, and that little thing about WORLD DESTRUCTION...and turns his back on his friends to accomplish his goal.

Even IF the whole bit about Morrigan being given a part of Mythal's power turns out to be untrue, SHE in more ways is a better inheritor of Mythal's legacy than Solas.  SHE represents the virtues that Mythal herself did once upon a time.  Solas represents her Vengeance.  I AM curious if the two will come face to face in the future...it DOES seem that both Mythal and Solas were pushing for SOMEONE to drink from the Well, but Mythal seems VERY entertained if the Inquisitor does.  I am starting to wonder if HER goals are the same as that of Solas...hmmmmm....

I think Solas MEANT what he said...but again, I think he fails to understand the full implications of what is to come.  He is literally going to war with the world...TWO in fact...the one he destroyed...and the one he is PLANNING on destroying.
