Suggestion: Make after-game DLCs more like Awakening and less like Trespasser

By that, I mean narrative-wise, a large DLC should have more seperation from the main storyline. Awakening was more of a new, smaller story that while has some potential tie-in with Origins, the story is not an epilogue. Trespasser is pretty much the epilogue to Inquisition. It ties up some loose ends, you play the exact same Inquisitor, and you don't get any new companions. Trespasser is narratively too embedded with the Inquisition storyline to have to spend extra money on (not only for the DLC but for new consoles for PS3 and XBox360 owners).

By this I don't mean after-games should be exactly like Awakening or totally different from Trespasser. I totally thought Trespasser was much better than Awakening. I'm just saying that we gamers shouldn't have to pay extra money for the main game's real Epilogue, or closure to the main game.

I don't disagree, but apparently Awakenings didn't sell as well as they would have liked for the work they put in. So they're probably not going to do that again.

I thought Awakening just didn't know what it wanted to do. As an expansion it really didn't have enough of a connection to DA:O, and lacked what an expansion usually offers (at least, when it's good), which is a more epic plot over the original. In the end, DA:A felt like the errand the HOF had to run after saving the world which doesn't really work.

I had so little interest in Awakening I didn't even buy it until several years after it came out, and still haven't beaten it. Trespasser was a day one purchase, and my favourite thing Bioware has ever created.

Trespasser >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Awakening

I think it's apples to oranges. Awakening was supposed to be a continuation of the storyline, yes, but it also was introducing new characters and new settings, being a separate game from Origins at the same time it was continuing its story. Trespasser isn't just the continuation of Inquisition's story, it's the conclusion. It's effectively Inquisition's missing third act. It relies on what came before in Inquisition to tell its story, rather than existing separately.

While I have not played Trespasser, I can absolutely agree with you that we should not have had to pay extra money to get the resolutions to our companion's stories and some of the decisions that we made during the main game.  I don't know much about the over all story to Trespasser so I can't say anything about it's affect to the main story of the main game , but for the companions' stories it really feels to me like they hacked the endings off from the main game so that they could charge for them.

Yeah Trespasser was the epilogue to the main game, which while good to have, is lame that it wasn't present in the base game. I'm still glad we have it, though.

Awakening was more of a spin off than an epilogue. The continuing adventures of the HOF/Orlesian Warden. I actually enjoyed it a lot, but it felt very rushed and unpolished. It felt like it was missing an act between the three main quests and the attack on Amaranthine/the Keep. It makes sense that publishers wouldn't make expansions any more since they cost more to produce than they're worth. If we're just getting DLC from now on, I don't think we can get an entirely separate story done well in a small package. So while I would enjoy more of an expansion style DLC, I think it would be more rushed than Awakenings and be of lower quality than a smaller story DLC.

The NPCs stories are very much wrapped up in DA:I, as introduced in DA:I. Trespasser is more of an extended epilogue, but DA:I stands alone. In fact, for some characters (and plots), Trespasser "unwraps" the wrapped up story. Certainly this applies to the Inquisition itself and the Inquisitor. Arguably, so too for Divine Victoria.

I think it depends on how you define the NPC stories; if Trespasser had not happened I could consider their stories over, if unsatisfactorily. But after seeing Trespasser, the NPC stories seem more complete.

No, they were not.  We don't know what happens with Cole in the decision of whether to turn him human or more spirit.  We don't know what happens with Bull and his decision to either stay with the Qun or with his Chargers.  We don't know what happens with Dorian and what he's gonna do about his Homeland.  I could keep going.  Sure, we know what happens with Victoria and her quest but then, that was a very simple and quite dull story.  For danged near everyone else, we don't know what happens to them unless we buy Trespasser, or if they become Divine.  The main game tells us next to nothing.

The only other characters that we don't need a resolution on after the main game are Sera and Varrick but that's only because neither of their personal quests involve any kind of significant choices for them.  Though, it would be nice to hear something about Varric and Bianca.

I feel like we might hear from Bianca again, as it sounds like she has some revolutionary invention her husband is selling in Nevarra. Maybe it'll be some asset Tevinter acquires in their war again the Qunari. Hopefully Varric realizes he's wasted too much of his life pining after someone unworthy of him, and entertains offers of marriage from all of the eligible families of Kirkwall. Even one of the de Launcet daughters would be better than Bianca.

That would be cool.  I like the character though and do hope that we see some more from her.  It's pretty clear that she really does care for Varric, but yeah, dude needs to move on.

One pays for new content, Trespasser is new content. How embedded that content is in the previous storyline is entirely meaningless in terms of how much we should pay for it.

Though, it would be nice if BioWare made their main game's main stories anywhere near as good as their DLC's stories.

I liked trespasser a lot nore than awakening as it wraps up the storyline.

Awakening gave me hope that my warden would return but at the same time made me miss the great things about Dao. It felt like a spinoff story and not a continuation
How much of awakening transferred over to dai? Is the architect even mentioned?
