The price of DLC never goes down, except for the rare sale.

The Standard DAI edition is now $40 while the GotY edition is $60, The DLC and Deluxe upgrade effectively sells for $20 (1/3 the list price).  Anyone who bought the standard DAI on Origin four days ago paid $60, and would now be required to pay $65 for the DLC and Deluxe upgrade.

How is this not a ripoff of existing customers?

I thought EA was improving and putting "gamers first", but evidently the new CEO of EA was speaking out of a lower oriface.  Instead EA/Bioware has treated many of their existing customers with disdain:

* Jaws Xbone exclusive.

* "Good News" discontinuation of DLC on last gen consoles.

* Charging list price to existing customers for bonus content, but charging new customers less than 1/3 the price.

I just bought Trespasser at Amazon (instead of Origin) rather than allow EA to have the full amount of their exhorbitant profit.  Eventually I will buy Descent, and I already have Jaws.

I will not lie and say I will not buy DA4 at launch, however I will no longer purcase less immersive items as I have done in the past:

* No Deluxe Editions

* No Item Pack DLC

* No comic books

* No Art of Thedas books

* No World of Thedas books

* No Dragon Age clothing

* No microtransactions

Ironically, if EA had offered a token 10% discount on DLC for existing customers, I would have likely bought the above items in the future.

I am not preordering DA4. If anything, I might wait and see if there is a GOTY edition and wait for a year to buy that with everything in it.

That's the price of early adoption. A GOTY edition has literally always been a better deal than the base game. It's not something that's limited to EA, and it's not really anything to be outraged about.

Will EA reclaim the worst company title this year?

Poor treatment of existing customers is nothing to be upset about?

Jaws came out for PC early too. Exclusivity periods are nothing unique to EA. Bethesda had even worse ones - multiple months for every content pack. You can lay equal blame on Microsoft for that one.

It's true that they should have discontinued old gen support from the before release rather than midway, but it's not productive to be mad about it forever, I think. It's irrelevant to the point that GOTY editions have always been a better deal than base game at release, and that's nothing new.

EA has never been, nor will it ever be, the "worst company" in a world with Google, Bank of America and Amazon. That was a joke, and a testament to the tenacity of grandstanding trolls mad about gay romances and ME3 endings.

A DLC pack wouldn't have been a bad idea for those that simply purchased the base game and were taking the wait and see approach to DLC.

I know with game I like I typically buy season passes when available which is kind of the same thing. I purchased the Witcher 3 season pass, and the Pillars of eternity season passes for example. Saves a few dollars on buying content I would have purchased anyway.

My posts above notwithstanding, obviously a DLC bundle would be a great idea. At least these go on sale fairly frequently (unlike the damn old games).

That's pretty much every game developer.  GoTY editions are like that no matter who you are buying from.  And as much as I would love to jump on the EA bashing bandwagon, I can't say that's a dirty practice or ripping anyone off.  It's just the price that you pay for wanting to play it earlier.  If I like a game well enough, I don't have any problems paying full price for the game and for the DLC.  Good developers deserve that kind of support.

Fully agree with you here.  I loathe EA with a passion, but them getting worst company was absolutely ludicrous.  Now if there was a worst video game company award, that might be a different story, though lately they would have stiff competition there with Konami.

I maintain that in this regard, Activison remains the team to beat.

I can't remember the last Activision game I bought. Probably one of the Mech Warrior games. I looked at the Kings Quest re-boot,  once I realized Activision were behind it, I backed right the hell off.

Activision were cool once, probably around the time the events depicted in Star Wars took place though.

I'm more and more friendly to the idea of waiting 1-2 years after a game launch, let alone at launch and definitely not pre-ordering. Developers keep providing me reasons why.

You would think it would be only fair to offer a GOTY Edition upgrade for all those that have Standard Editions.

But; if you put GREED ahead of your company's image and the SATISFACTION OF YOUR CUSTOMERS its probably not that important to you.

Then I guess then that my return business is not that important either.

What do they offer to the gamer who supported Bioware/EA through the year by buying the standard edition and all the dlc at release? Where is that gamer's reward?

But you miss the point that those asking for the upgrade have the standard game. They chose not to buy the dlc or only some of it. So they got to play the base game  and whatever dlc they purchased (if any) also for the year. Same as those who bought the base game and the dlc.

The people buying the GOTY edition most likely are those who waited and new purchasers.

The Borderlands series of games actually has a system built in that rewards players with Golden keys. The keys are released via social media, quite often with an expiration date. Just gives players a key to a chest which generates a random piece of high quality loot- Loot that could be generated at random and found anywhere in the game, not exclusive or some other anti-consumer BS.

Just a possible reward for game owners without disadvantaging anyone.

A similar thing could be done in future games perhaps with the reward for opening loot chests be something like fade touched crafting mats or something. Of course EA would stupidly link Microtransactions into the whole thing and ruin it. so maybe not such a great idea afterall.

You are all assuming that DA:I will get GOTY, yet only Phantom Pain and Fallout 4 have a faithful dog companion. I don't see how the **** will Inquisition get GOTY.

Where the **** is my Mabari? That **** with Cullen in Trespasser was not cool, or taunting us about Harding. Sera got redeemed though, but the fact that unless my Inquisitor romanced her I can no longer look forward to a Dagna romance in DA4, sucks.

I'm seriously gonna be "playing" DA4 on the YouTube platform unless I get my frickin Mabari and they stop trying to reinvent the WRPG wheel by frankensteining other RPG styles so poorly. I basically played DA:I for the Lore.

So? How is that a reason to screw over the people who actually made it worthwhile to produce DLC's and a game of the year edition? I pre-purchased the thing and now get financially raped by the games company??? 65 Euro for All DLC plus upgrade to Deluxe and new customers get that for 60 Euro whereas I have to spend 65 Euro on top of the 50 Euro I spend? Are you ****** kidding me? I don't need it for free. I don't mind paying 15 Euro for the upgrade but this is insane! Even if a person who buys DA:I base edition now and then buys all the DLC **** would have to pay less then I would to get the same content. How is that fair? Give me a ****** upgrade for affordable money!
