First of all, thanks for putting up with my stupid questions.
How does one become an Alchemist? I have all these recipes but can't do anything with them?

Need more detail into what you want to do.
Potion recipes?
If you are at skyhold, there is an upgrade potions table in the undercroft. As well as an equip potions table right next to it. Look near the railing at the far right hand corner as you enter the undercroft
If you are at skyhold, there is an alchemist with a potions table and an equip potions table near solas where you get the quest to go fetch the lyrium(?) potion recipe from the house near the logging stand.
After that, all you need is ingredients and you are good to go. Get foraging or buy them from merchants. But watch out for your companions, especially bull, he downs elfroot like there is a shortage.
