I really hope BW does a better job with them than they did with the Protheans. I get the whole, long dead civilisation, etc. thing but it really has been done to death by now, hasn't it?

I liked the Protheans and their role in the story ... but, yes, BioWare do seem slightly over-fond of long-lost civilizations, considering not just the Remnant but how large a role the ancient elves played in Inquisition.

My major concern with the Remnant, as I've said in other threads, is that they've been created to justify dozens of hours of Inquisition-esque grinding.

"I'm sorry, Pathfinder. The Big Bad Villain's technology is too powerful. Please explore fifteen huge planets and collect a hundred Remnant techno-shards, and we may be able to use them to develop a really big gun or a mystical space orb to destroy him."

No. Just ... no, BioWare. Nnnnnnn... NO.

Tell an actual story, please. No cheap fixes where an interesting plot should be.

I'm still hoping there's a twist there somewhere or that the Remnant thing gets wrapped up in a single game, like we need some deus ex machina to get humans a new nice, shiny workable planet and we steal some ancient tech and do it and DONE. No ancient galactic signpost to an ancient galactic evil please.

Along the way, you will encounter the remains of a once powerful and mysterious alien race, the Remnant, whose forgotten technology holds the key to gaining power in this region of the galaxy. As you uncover who the Remnant were, and the mysteries their ruins contain, you are drawn into a violent race to find the source of their forgotten technology that will determine the fate of humanity.

I've got a bad feeling about this...

The best they could do is to not make it a major part of the story...something far off in the background but based on the leak a few months back, the Remnants seem to be pretty big cheeses...

I am not a fan of ancient civilizations and the plot driven need to locate their McGuffins either. I am also rather leery of how the leaked survey paints the Pathfinder initiative being the only one to demonstrate the capability to use the Remnant technology. I mean, if there is some ancient ruins that will allow an extra-galactic species to take control over a section of Andromeda, then why has no one native to the galaxy attempted to use the tech?

Sounds more and more like 'Humans Are Special' is posing to rear it's ugly head again, and I swear if the Remnant turn out to be ancient, highly advanced humans……

Humans are so lucky that the glorious dwarven master race doesn't live in space. So lucky. lol

(And, no, the Volus are sorry excuses for dwarves until they grow a backbone and start wielding huge space hammers.)

Agreed, they'd be put to shame with their space breads.

The squats are in Warhammer 40K, or at least they were before they were devoured by the Tyranids

I thought the Protheans were always handled well throughout the trilogy. The Reapers, not so much.

So much potential destroyed in the third game. I would have loved to see Harbinger go through his own ark. Letting Shepard get to him before developing a case of rage induced insanity showing he isn't so different from organics, much to his denial only fueling the madness.

I would like to see something like the artifacts bringing back the Remnant to Andromeda and try to destroy the people messing with their tech. Somtheing like curiosity killed the humans type of scenario.

-snip for size-

That movie ugh.  <_<  I still can't believe that this is tied to the Alien franchise. I would prefer AvP to this film; at least the former is fun to watch.

Prometheus had 'Humans Are Special' all over it as well. We were all apparently a very special kind of stupid.

Ancient race returns to destroy us all? That would be hella exciting plot.

Andromeda's 'Not-Reapers'? Sure why not.

I mean we aren't getting a Shepard 2.0 despite our character being an N7 soldier so this plot should work out fine.

Not!Tevos: Ah, Remnants. We have dismissed that claim.
Commander, the remnants are nothing more than a fable. Where did they go? Why have we found no evidence of them? Agent Blaren is cleary working with the bleth, utilising them for his own ends.
Not!Shepard: You are just blind to the truth! The Remnants are out there and they will return!

Written below in a trailing hand: 'Sod it, it's 18:00 on a Friday. Let's ship it, no-one will notice '.

Can't wait.

Not N7 necessarily but ...

You are a pathfinder, a combat trained but un-tested explorer ...

KOTOR: Rakata

DA: Elves

ME: Protheans, ..., Leviathans

I wouldn't hold my breath.  All the most recent IP from BW has at least one more advanced but suffered some sort of collapse leading to weakened group of survivors, usually either in hiding, corrupt or at the bottom of the food chain. You will heroically salvage their technology and in some cases able to join forces with them against the Main_Antagonist_04.

I do like the the idea of the protag trying to fix a problem they started, it be a nice switch to being stuck with problems everyone else created. It might even be better if nobody lets you forget your the one who screwed up.

The key to defeating the enemy is gathering remnant technology...the Remnant Beacon.
