I have been away from DA: I for some time now and just started playing again. I was on youtube awhile ago trying to refresh my memory on where to find the Tomes for the Rift Mage in the Exalted plains. Watching the video I noticed that the narrator was at level 9.

When I got to Skyhold I was level 11. And, now in the Exalted Plains I am on Level 15, have already stopped the Wardens at Adamant Fortress; and, killed my first dragon in the Hinterlands. How am I doing? I would welcome any and all insight into my gameplay. Thank you.

Doing just fine.

I'm like you. I was away from the game since early January and decided to come back couple weeks after trespasser was released to see if the DLCs and patches fixed a lot of my grievances about the game. They did.

I was level 21 before I went to the winter palace in my latest playthough.

Each person does different things at different levels. You might have spent more time in the side missions before skyhold before the let's player did.

You seem to be fine. Inquisition is an semi-open game that allows each player to customize their experience and level of difficulty. It could be that the person you were watching was doing a "speed run" where they forgo all the side quests outside of the main storyline and try to get through the game as fast as they can. Or they could have turned on the "Take It Slow" trial, which only gives half the experience of normal. My advice would be to stockpile materials (leather, cloth, and metal). Even if an animal is docile and not attacking you go ahead and get its hide. This will give you more flexibility when crafting armor and weapons.

I am one those players who immerses themselves into the game, doing all of the quest and making sure I speak to everyone every time I return to Skyhold. I play Mass Effect the same way, only I tend to start with Mass Effect one and then two followed by three.

Same, You're doing fine. We all do different sections of the game at different rates. My latest play through is a (Nightmare) Rift Mage. She is Level 22 and I still have yet to complete the other half of the hissing wastes, half the exalted plains, begin the western approach and the forbidden oasis.

The only advice I can give to you is this. Turn on the top two trials and the last one. Even Ground, Walk softly and Grizzly end. The first keeps all enemies at least at your level, the second, makes them a little tougher. On nightmare, when they have guard they can be a bit of a pain.. The third, just makes bears a bit more dangerous.

If you are worried about your level Even ground will ensure all enemies are at your level or higher so you will continue to get experience from every enemy you defeat. Though, you need trespasser installed.

Another thing I can recommend, but is platform dependent is this, If you play on PC and you have not done so, go to the Nexus mods and download the save file that has all the schematics in the entire game and sync it to your golden nug.

last november whilst myself and a couple dozen other players were building the wiki pages and various thread archives on here, I manually added all the 500+ schematics from the base game to a fresh account. Turns out they added a golden nug in one of the later builds after a lot of us ceased playing following the player V moderator flame war that broke out in January. Now all you need to do instead of save scumming is to download the save file and sync it to your nug.
