Which of these two assault rifles is better, and why?

In theory, the Valkyrie should be significantly better, with a higher headshot modifier and better DPS, but no matter what I do, it seems to perform worse than the Saber.

But Saber. Because style points. And it sounds like you're punching holes through time. And you knock guys on their asses with it.

If you could make double headshots on Valk then she'd win.

If you could make at least neck-to-head shots all the time Valk would probably still win.

But a single shot where the recoil is a once off that you correct singly? Saber's a good bet.

Valk you have to autocorrect on the fly, between shots. It's harder and more of a pain in the arse, but it rewards more too.

It's like Eldar vs Space Marines in WH40k.

Saber wins.       hands down.  It has stopping power...is amazing vs bosses & mooks... ..plus style points....

Valkyrie is a head shot machine..  a destroyer of mooks...some style points.......  that's about it....

Saber wins.

I like the feel of the Valkyrie, it feels like a marksman's weapon.  I like the rhythm of firing it, pulsing the trigger rather than spamming it like with the Mattock (which I do also like).

You need to get headshots with it though, and bring a sidearm for big armoured things.  I like the barrage gear (to tame the kick a little) and Targeting VI weapon amp.

The Saber is a better all-round weapon due to its sheer stopping power.  Of the two, I prefer the Saber on more characters.  I think the Valkyrie has a bit more finesse though.

Saber. No contest.

Valkyrie is one of the worst guns in the game. Even on a Hunter Mode kit, the second shot ALWAYS goes wide.

Saber is great, even without recoil or accuracy bonus, it is just awesome in every way.

SABER. SABER IS AWESOME! SHOOT ALL THE THINGS IN THE HEAD!

I'm going to admit that I prefer the Valkyrie, I find the Sabre a bit random with the hit detection (I have similar issues with the Executioner).  I would only use the Valkyrie on Turian kits, in the same way I only use the Sabre on kits with a shot speed bonus like marksman or HM.

The Saber is a monster of a gun. Give that thing to a Drelldept with warp rounds and an adrenaline model and you he becomes a zippy cannon with legs.

Using the Valkyrie feels like a chore.  I realise it's a L2P issue, but I fear I'm past learning at this stage and I can't imagine using the damn thing ever again - it has metaphorically followed my Argus and Vindicator out the airlock. I'm proud to be a scrub.

On the other hand, using the Saber is one of the most pleasing things in the game.

Both these weapons I only enjoy with Hunter or Destroyer mode due to accuracy and rate of fire increase. So... out of the two I prefer the Saber myself too.

And I the kit that almost always gets chosen for these two weapons is the Geth Engineer, of course. And once you try Saber Drill Ammo Geth Engineer, it's hard to ever go to any other setup with the Saber.

If I have to chose I'd go with the Saber.

The Valkyrie is quite inaccurate on long distance, but lika all other ARs it's not to bad at all with the TGI.

Extended mag and barrel with AP IV and it does the job good enough.

I used the Sabre last night for the first time in ages, on the GE, and I have to admit it did feel a lot better than I remembered.  Wasn't having the hit detection problems that I'd been having earlier, maybe hosting helped.

I find that on a character without accuracy or stability boosting passives or powers, the Valkyries second shot is useless, it can go anywhere.
With accuracy boosts, the second shot will be in the direction you want the shot to land but a couple of inches high of where you wanted it.
And with stability boosts, the second shot will be at the right height, but off to one side by a few inches.

And the only way to fix it completely is to put both recoil dampener and a scope, using 2 mod slots, same as the argus. Using 2 mod slots for stability and accuracy means you cannot use the extended barrel or piercing, and you are pretty much limited to ap ammo because of the amount of armoured enemies on gold or plat and the amount of shots it will take to kill them if they have no headshot.

But the saber can have an extended barrel and piercing mod instead while still maintaining perfect accuracy from cover, so you can have more variety on your ammo to affect your build. You can run physics to 1hit kill. if your character doesn't have a shield stripping power but a detonator you can use disruptor. Drill ammo is always fun. Explosive ammo if your character can only focus on one enemy, this way the explosion will stagger others. Cryo can be used to best effect(imo) if you have got a tech and fire power already. if your a biotic stasis user you can use warp ammo. or if your a warp/flamer user, you can use incendiary lol.

But my favourite is the argus :)

Small question. Cyonans stat sheet says the Valkyrie can do 149.9 base projectile damage lvl x but
299.8 max damage per shot. Where as all conventional weapons use the same figure. Why is this one different? Does it vary?

^ per shot means you pull the trigger once but two bullets in one burst come out. So all you have to know is that each bullet would suffer armour dmg reduction.

I like the Valkyrie, but the Saber is a superior gun.  If you have a class with an accuracy boost, it's actually pretty close - but on most classes, the Saber is better.

Also, Argus doesn't need a scope, the accuracy and bloom/spread are fine, it's just recoil that is a problem. And recoil dampener will handle MOST of it. A stab mod WILL. Recoil+Piercing is my usual Argus setup. Extended Mag+Barrel with AP Ammo, and Stab Mod make it a fine weapon. Especially on a Turian. If I had to choose between Argus and Valkyrie, I'd pick the Argus. It may be because my Valkyrie is still only VI, but I find the Argus is much more effective, I just prefer other weapons.

I still stand by Saber being one of the best ARs (Right behind Lancer, which is one of the best guns of all), but I'd still take most ARs over the Valkyrie. IF the Valkyrie was actually a lightweight gun(It's not hugely heavy, but it's not light), it might be worth considering on certain kits, but there is usually a (much) better option for the weight (or much less).

There really is no content, they are worlds apart. The Saber is AMAZING, and the Valkyrie just outclassed by so many things.

I'd like to stand up for the Valkyrie again, it's a specialist gun, and only works on certain kits, but what it does it does very well.  It's an absolute headshot machine on the turian kits.

A "headshot machine" requires a gun that doesn't have every other bullet go randomly somewhere not where it started. GPR is a headshot machine. Locust is not far behind. Valkyrie WOULD be a headshot machine if the second round was not shot by a drunken sailor who just stepped onto solid land.

The second shot, particularly on Turian kits that aren't suffering from acute stability amnesia, is no where near as drunk as you make it out to be. It gets tedious but the second shot consistently goes up a bit, and that's all the recoil you need to compensate for. Typically I aim for the neck, and score a headshot with the second shot.
