And it's the best tied to the plot.  :)

Since Solas is so central to the main story, and since revelations about elves are a huge part of the whole second half the game, most of the climax, and 2/3 story-based DLC (Jaws of Hakkon and Trespasser), romancing Solas enhances the whole roleplay experience, and makes your romantic feelings that much more tied to the main plot.

(And I'm speaking as someone who romanced Solas first, but has since romanced Cullen, Dorian, Bull, Cassandra, and Josephine. While the rest of them are all nice, after how emotionally engaging and integrally tied to the main story Solas is, the other romantic sidequests feel like that: romantic side quests. Like I could have opted not to romance them at all and it wouldn't have changed my overall experience of the game any. But with Solas, I do feel like the overall story is different without love for him than with, and it is lesser.)

Although I would not consider Solas my favorite romance, I do agree that it is the best when it comes to plot relevance. I believe I may make my play through with the Solas romance canon because of this.

Yeah Solas has the best plot relevance...but it left me feeling really cold. It's sparse, the scenes are spread really far apart and for the most part I want to punch Solas in them so yeah not my favorite romance.

Josephine and Cullen in trespasser get more scenes

But i say the most immersive are Dorian and Cassandra, they have banters with the companions and a lot more attention on the history.

See I have an elven Inquisitor just waiting to by swept up by Lord High Egg but with Trespasser it kiiinda feels like I'd be making her fall for Hitler so it makes me feel all squiggly.

Lavellan is Eva confirmed?

I loved Cullenmance, especially the marriage bit and having a Mabari. Now Inky needs to have tiny badass babies with him.

Solas was the first. Cullen was therapy. I don't feel attached and woobie about any of them though, not like with Zevran and Fenris (or even Alistair, at first).

I'm trying to slog through the others, but I hardly care. I just want to see Solas' wrapped up in a sequel because it could be epic. If it's a major fail like Thane I won't want to buy DA 4.

Yeah the whole would kill you and everyone you love to bring back a world that was apparently full of douchebags didn't do him any favors. Bro time to let it go.

It really doesn't help that some of the options make me cringe. Nope. I mean I recommend everyone do it at least once for the experience but yeah I don't see myself doing that more than once.

Dorian was my first romance, i loved it and thought it was very sweet and romantic...up until trespasser? I know the slides at the end imply differently but i just feel like he dumped my inquisitor to go be a magister? i just cant shake that feeling

Still on my second playthrough, romancing Cassandra this time, although i kind of wish i had went with Blackwall

As someone who adores the Dorian romance I am very sorry to see that you felt that way about the Trespasser ending. But you do have to remember, even at the party if he announces that he is staying, no matter what else he says he always adds the caveat "for now."

Obviously you feel differently, but I felt that the scenes in Trespasser -- the two kisses, his use of the word "love," his reaction when he thinks you're dying in that final eluvian trip, his presence in the post-credit scene -- all point to his caring very deeply for the Inquisitor and having an interest in the future activities of the pseudo-former-Inquisition (if disbanded).

I've been trying to do the Solas romance, but gave up after the ball for the second time, for pretty much the reasons you give. I was really surprised by how little interaction there was in his romance, especially up against others and the whole thing was kinda leaving me feeling cold as well. Love the character, one of Biowares best in fact, but friend/enemy is as far as it goes.

Out of the others, my eldest has run the Cassandra, Dorian  and IB romances which I thought were really good. For me personally none beat Cullens. Him not being a companion made not the slightest bit of difference, in fact I felt the amount and quality was much, much better than most, iff not all, of the companions.

Blackwall. I'm a sucker for angsty types who've done something horrible but try to make amends for it.

I'm secretly glad Solas wasn't available for Dwarves - I don't think I could've handled how he treated Lavellan.

Sort of tangent but for those who romanced Cullen do you do it as Mage or not, or prefer doing the romance as a Mage or not?

Dorian and Iron Bull are probably my two favorites, but I prefer them together than with the Inquisitor. My poor femQunari's broken heart after she went for Dorian, and was turned down only to then realize Dorian snagged Bull right from under her.

I really tried to like Josephine's and Cassandra's romances. Josephine's romance is too idyllic and teenager like for me, and Cassandra is just too far ideologically from me about too many things.

So neither of my two 'canon' Inquisitors have a romance. I imagine bachelor life ain't so bad for them tho being the Inquisitor and all.

For best drama in a romance, I nominate Solas.

For most satisfying end to a long emotional journey, I nominate Cullen.

For most interesting 'fun and games,' I nominate The Iron Bull

For most adult romance in a game, I nominate Dorian

For the Disney Princess romance, I nominate Josephine

For most tender secret reveal, I nominate Cassandra

Haven't romanced Sera or Blackwall.

Sera's romance was the best for me.

I'm still at the start of Cassandra and Dorian's romance and I've done Josie. Josephine is too disney for my type so I didn't enjoy the romance that much.

I have yet to do the others, maybe one day when i'll start another pt.

I did it as a mage, and I enjoyed the romance very much, but I'm not sure if it's critical. There were a few different lines for a mage PC, and there was an element of tension if you ally with the mages in In Hushed Whispers, but I don't think it matters all that much. The romance focuses on the balance between what's personal and what's important, which is relevant for any class, and less on Cullen's conflicted history with magic and those who wield it. So, I guess I'd say that it doesn't make a difference whether you romance him as a mage. It's fun either way.

So far i`ve tried Cullen, Solas, Blackwall, Cassandra and Iron Bull  and i`ve enjoyed them all  :).

But my top 2:

Cullen`s romance is my favorite, it `s sweet, romantic and it has a little amount of angst.

Solas romance seems the best tied to the plot, it`s also beautiful and heart-breaking at the same time.

It seems one of these comments must appear in every post regarding romance. Here, I will humor you.
First, why does the fact you're white have any baring at all on the romance options?
Second, this is a roleplaying game so what you are in the real world doesn't conform you to who you play as in the game.
As for my last point, I found both Cassandra and Josephine's romance very fulfilling. I thought having romance options outside of the companions was clever, and it realistically made sense.

the bolded. i was wondering that as well.

Romanced 3 folk: Sera, Cassie, and Josie. I LOVE Sera's romance. And I've romanced her with everyone...qunari, elf, human, and dwarf. In those playthroughs, my Quizzy's were so focused on getting things handled, they never really found time to do anything else. She was the perfect fit for them...gave them knowledge and didn't realize it most of the time.

Josie...I liked it but it was always missing....something. I haven't figured out what it is yet.

Cassie...I didn't expect hers to be so sugary in the end lol. But I sorta liked the paradox of this hardened warrior being rose petal soft when you get her alone. That was quite appealing to me.

I want to do Dorian's romance...I TRIED to do Cullen's romance but it wasn't happening organically and I simply couldn't finish it. I believe there are too many past memories with him for me and that blocked me from taking him seriously as a romance...had a Surana run once and she was creeped out by him. Funny thing is I can actually see his character growth but enough to be all cuddly and ish with him? nah. not yet.

never had an interest in doing Blackwall, Solas, or Iron Bull's romance.

I've only ever romanced Blackwall, heh. I'm rather stuck on him with my human mage(s), so my vote goes to him. He has an accent I like, a deep voice, a dirty sense of humor, and blue, blue eyes (he also tells some pretty funny stories if you get a chance to hear them).

More importantly than any of the superficial stuff, he undergoes a major personal transformation as a man who starts out as a complete s--- in his old life but eventually becomes a genuinely good man over time, one who regrets what he's done in the past and has dedicated himself to making amends. The epilogue in Trespasser goes on to show how he has achieved his own personal redemption and ultimately goes on to give others the opportunity to redeem themselves and to find some good even in the darkest of places, all with the woman he loves by his side.

Because I freed him, he and my Inquisitor seem to have gotten one of the best possible endings (boy, I am so glad that I never did the Warden thing). If they'd thrown in a wedding, it would have been a nice bonus, but I can live without being able to officially put a ring on it in the game - lol.

I liked the Josephine romance, though Cassandra's was...pretty disappointing, honestly.

The best is Cullen though. I haven't done a run with Solas, and I hear that some people really love that angsty "I have to go destroy the world" angle, but honestly, Cullen is just awesome.

Non-mage Trevelyan for me. I just love it. I also love that him being not noble could be some issue for her family, and the fact they are so in love and don't give a **** is just so precious. I prefer snarky sneaky a tiny little bit spoiled rogue Trevelyan. I love the idea of them growing up together emotionally.

From what I've experienced and seen...
I'd go for Cullen. He is the most mature option. Even my lavellan was close to dumping solas for him several times. He is like a grown-up man, and approaches the romance with responsibility that other characters are lacking. Maybe except for Cassandra. Cause others just like throw themselves in this relationship, without any careful consideration to the consequences.
I liked seeing Cassandra romance. She seems like a well-balanced and thoughtful person. And it's not surprising in the slightest that she is a softy when it comes to friendship or love. She can separate love and work pretty well, I think.
I got to liking Solas romance more than in the beginning. Though I still think he's an arrogant ass. The lack of content bugged me at first as well. But then I chose the perspective, where my lavellan is not an easily impressed teen, but a grown up woman, who just happenned to fall in love with him. They are both independent people and don't need to stick to each other too much. They have things to do, so they occasionally seek for each other's company, but also can live without seeing each other every free second. Like the bond is there, they don't need to prove it all the time.
Blackwall. He's not a bad man.but in his redemption he's trying too hard. I cant really believe he changes so much. Especially the epilogue in trespasser. Very artificial. Like yeah, going to prisons and talking to the people who are not going to change with 99% probability. I can see him falling for all kinds of touching stories they make up just to persuade himself that people can change, that he can change.
Bull. Well... just can't buy the story of love starting with bdsm fun.
Sera... I can't help but see her as a mindless creature ,a moth. She's here and there but not anywhere really. I just don't feel she has that depth to really love someone.
Dorian. I have a soft spot for this guy. But one question bothers me always. Is it really the inquisitor he wants. Or he's with inquisitor, cause he's the first person to treat him nice, nor like a freak, nor like a sextoy.
