Since ME2 I've wanted Mass Effect to include Dead Space-style armour, with helmets, built into the suit, that extend and retract automatically.

And you should be able to go into the options menu and decide whether your helmet retracts before conversations or not.

I second this. I want my enemies to know that they fucked up when I put on my helmet

ME3 had some cool armors, but most of them had an automatic helmet and it was kind of annoying. Here's hoping there is an option to at least toggle the helmet so it's there but not visible to the player, although not having a helmet on a planet that would require one would be weird to see.

Helmets were the reason I never used these promotional armors we got with games. N7 Defender armor was great for my DudeShep. He needed something tanky, but then I saw this fugly helmet and I my first thought was "nope".
Naturally I just edited it, which solved the problem, but the sad part is, console players can't do that. So, having a toggleable helmet would be great. Or just having one like Isaac had in DS.

I definitely support this . There was many nice armors in ME3 but due to forced helmets, I never used any of them.

Agreed. Since editing my coalesced file to be able to wear the armors without helmets I've been wearing them a lot more, but I feel for the console players and seriously, it shouldn't have been so hard to implement a "remove helmet" option. If I can do it with a simple coalesced edit, so can the developers.

That's why we need a toggle option.

Keep helmets off during gameplay and/or cutscenes.

Why BioWare did this in ME1 and not in ME2 or ME3 is beyond me.

That's also cool. I support many different styles of retractable helmet.

It's vital that the aliens of the Andromeda galaxy realize just how badass (i.e. full of themselves) humans are before they even open their mouths. lol

Alien: "What the hell are you?"

Tony Stark Pathfinder: "I'm a god-damn human being. Gaze in awe upon Andromeda's new master race. Not only are we the most diverse and determined species in the universe (according to human fiction, which is never wrong) -- but our dress sense is beyond compare."

*Activates fancy armour.*

Although realistically retractable helmets are just horrible maiming injuries waiting to happen. Don't move a muscle or ""OH GOD MY HAIRS/EARS/NOSE IS CAUGHT AHHHHH!"

Also that dead space one looks silly because now he's got snow stuck inside the helmet.

In harsh and dangerous environments, I agree with you (kind of like in ME1) as this adds to the immersion and realism of the game. However, in other situations, including combat, I sometimes just want to see their face and head. But this also applies to squad mates. I thought it was totally unrealistic when Miranda only had a breather on that Geth ship in ME2, and no armour or anything protecting her skin from the zero pressure environment of space. SHE WOULD JUST EXPLODE!!

That's not how space works. Total Recall is a lie. Shed just be freezing. The single rebreather is actually realistic because that's all they really need (most environments they are in like ships and planets don't look particularly cold)

You'd be doing a lot more than just freezing. Things like ebullism, hypoxia, hypocapnia, etc would be occurring, and that's just to your blood.

Anyone exposed to the vacuum of space not wearing a fully pressurized suit but just a rebreather would be unconscious within a few seconds and dead within a few minutes.

I want nothing to do with rap.

Make it a Rock battle and I'm game.

Breather masks also offer no protection from.....

- Hazardous environments that have toxins that can enter through the skin.

- Extreme temperatures be it extreme cold or extreme heat.

- High levels of radiation.

Those environments do require fully sealed suits which is why the whole concept of breather masks is ridiculous.

This is why Liara's blue butt stays on the ship in that reactor mission in ME3
