I don't know much about this game. Is it a Star Wars themed shooter, where Jedi, Sith and Lightsabres don't exist?

In the beta, you can play as both Luke and Vader, though I don't know the prerequisites for doing so. The hero character roster will be expanded in the full game. I know Han Solo is on some maps, and Boba Fett was one they advertised as well. IIRC, they mentioned the Emperor somewhere, but I could be imagining that.

Just how to use the engine, to make MEA looks as good as battlefront (the maps are kind of varren but they look absolutely gorgeous) and runs as smoothly.

I didn't mean to sound sarcastic. Sorry.

I think there's something genuinely good in not being competitive. One of the things that kept me in ME3MP for as long as I played it was that it never felt competitive to me. I enjoy both ways of playing, depending on my mood.

As long as more content gets added over time, it may well be fun for a year or more.

Agreed. I was a bit skeptical about Bfront not being as 'tacticool' as Bfield, but I'm actually enjoying the beta because of this. And ME3MP was the funniest MP I ever played; not truly competitive, very arcade-ish, but very fun nonetheless.

I'm guessing they expect the lifetime of this Bfront to be significantly longer than a Bflied title (since I doubt they want to release another one in 2 years-ish as they do with Battlefield). And I hope they do their best efforts to maintain the people interested on it. I'm sure the new SW movies will help too.

Be careful - be really, REALLY careful when talking about "netcoding" in the vicinity of anything DICE.

They f*cked it with BF4, BF3 netcode was pretty damn good. BF4 netcode on release was utter garbage (now is petty much ok, though), but I will still take that one any day rather than the atrocious ME3MP netcode.

You can watch a video on YT, will be easier that way. Pretty much what you had in the original movies (ep IV, V, and VI)

On the beta (and I think this design is final) you get access to them by picking a special 'card' on the field. Those cards spawn in a fixed pattern all across the battlefield, although you can only have one hero card at a time for each team (for obvious reasons).

I think there will be the 2 confirmed 'pairs': Luke/Vader Han/Boba. Not sure if they'll add anyone else.

some of them are (such as Han's blaster). But not all of them. There were no AK's or M60's in Star Wars. Ever.

the main rebel rifle(A280C) is a german mp44, the main stormtrooper rifle(E-11) and rebel pistol(DH-17) is a Sterling submachine gun, and the heavy blaster(DLT-19) is a german MG34. All of these were used in the movies. In fact the MG34 was used as the base for the main clone trooper rifle and the Tuscan raider rifle is based on middle eastern muskets. So yes, most, if not all of the weapons are based on real weapons.

Which ones?

The original ones (Battlefront 1and 2)

Or that cheap knockoff that DICE are making?

Star Wars Battlefield.

My bad, the A295 blaster is the german mp44, even though it's called the A280 in the game. The A280 is based on the AR-15/M-16

If anything how to optimize a game. But Battlefied: Star Wars Edition (I spent a lot of my childhood playing the first 2 with my friends, this one just looks really, really good.) is just barebones. I was having fun but already getting annoyed. Like trying to win ATAT assault with rebels is almost impossible with randoms. or how navingating the terrain was sometimes unnecesarily hard (unless your jetpack wasn't on cooldown and even then, precise jumping with that thing was almost impossible).

From the beta I gather that it's an ok game that looks amazing. I might buy it if I see it on sale but the meat of the game was not on the campaign, which wasn't hard to do, just mp map after mp map with sometimes unique objectives, that served more as a long and enjoyable tutorial but the galactic conquest. Getting one afternoon with some friends to see which one gets to conquer the SW galaxy not just playing the bit of strategy of what units (ie, classes) to unlock, or if you want heroes for one match, or fortify each planet...while still having to play the matches to see who wins was just inmensely fun.

I'll be honest here, if some months down the line they release a galactic conquest dlc I'll be first in line to buy the game and the dlc, but until then it's not a good enough shooter to justify 60€ on it, not when Halo 5 is coming up.

There's swtor for that if you want kotor 3 with a bioware writing style, what would be really interesting is one taking a similar approach as to the Obsidian version.

Yea but PC only. I still haven't had a chance to play it. Even if it's bad... I want to play it.

Funnily enough, guns limited by cooldown are not canon for Star Wars. Blasters have actual magazines there and can run out of ammo, while heat is barely ever mentioned as a factor.

Actually it is. First thing that comes to mind is the side-arm in the Republic Commando game, and IIRC,

there are mentiones of such weapons in some books as well.

Weapons in SW are a wide field, there are many types of weapons used by many cultures.

The startling fixation that everyone in the ME universe has on a single weapon type with a single cooling mechanism, simply do not exist there.

In Battlefront, people play as the basic common generic soldier. All of those military soldier guys running around in the background in the movies are basically the stars in Battlefront. You can play as Jedi or Sith, but they only make cameos. As you can only play them for a limited amount of time, and that is if you can locate the ability to play as them.

The tech side of things. The upcoming Battlefront is much, much, more polished in terms of stability and optimization than BW's own existing Frostbite product, which still crashes at the drop of a hat after multiple patches and was consistently plagued by new bugs and technical issues introduced with every patch iteration.

If you're talking about Inquisition, then I would have to agree to disagree with you.  I've very seldom had Inquisition crash on me, and when I have it's always because I'm about to take on a dragon for the 17th time.  Plus, you heard one of the developers talking about how Frostbite had no native support for quadrupeds (something with four legs).

EDIT :  And I still think that they did an amazing job there.   That beginning fight between a dragon and a giant will live on in people's memories.

EDIT x 2 :  As a matter of fact, I'm thinking that we're gonna start seeing more giants in the DA universe.  I'm really shocked that they didn't come out with an expansion focusing merely on giants.

To be completely fair, I think the team that invented Frostbite would be more adept at developing for it than a team who spent the last 7 years using Unreal 3.

The fact that it runs smoothly on thing I call my PC. Other than that the game is mediocre at best and inferior in every aspect comparing to SWB1/2.

Oh, and 50$ Season Pass is a way to go EA, don't stop there.

Well, it does run smoothly, but they picked maps that don't look very demanding, GPU wise. An ice desert and a rock desert. Now the Endor map with a ton of trees and foliage and the light filtering down through the leaves, that would have been a true test.

People bought Battlefield-Premium, they will buy this too.

I was surprised how little the huge amount of particle effects impacted the performance. There were explosions and blaster fire everywhere on Hoth.

1. Ground wars comprised of big teams 16+ players feel nice, if implemented on large maps with clear objectives.

2. Weapon overheating makes more sense, than conventional ammo. However, I would give players option to use scare "ammo" to quickly reload weapon instead of having to wait for a cooldown.

3. Wish there were lightsabers in ME Universe....

4. Participation of "iconic" characters of the singleplayer campaign in the multiplayer.

Aside from the lack of classes, this is exactly how the older Battlefront games went down.

True. The real fun of Battlefront 2 was the epic space battles and the Assault (hero vs hero) game mode. And even then, most players played Assault because the gunplay in Battlefront was never anything to write home about and the space battles were not highly balanced.

I did not overly like the beta, however. Aside from the problem regarding spawn points which is apparently being fixed by DICE, the variety isn't there, the token system is meh at best, the fighter controls are utterly terrible on PC, the balance is out of whack, and for such a large sci-fi universe there's a distinct lack of fun weapons.

The overheat system is neat, however.
