I was specifically talking about blaster rifles that are used in Battlefront. All 4 of them are well documented in SW tech books, and they all use gas canisters as well as batteries as ammo.Actually it is. First thing that comes to mind is the side-arm in the Republic Commando game, and IIRC,
there are mentiones of such weapons in some books as well.
Weapons in SW are a wide field, there are many types of weapons used by many cultures.
The startling fixation that everyone in the ME universe has on a single weapon type with a single cooling mechanism, simply do not exist there.
What can Bioware learn from Star Wars Battlefront?

I don't think those tech books are canon anymore.

I don't see why they wouldn't be. They describe stuff right out of canon movies. Unless latest edition overrides them. Otherwise, I think those books are still a better source then a videogame, where ammo-less blasters can be explained by gameplay convenience rather than in-universe tech. I.e. simply to have a fallback something for the player, akin to that basic weapon in Quake 2.
Considering that Disney and Lucas effectively removed anything that isn't a movie (and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels TV series) from the main canon, I doubt much of anything from any EU material is canon unless explicitly stated by Disney.
Which is a real shame too, because I rather liked the Old Republic stuff.

Aside from a better optimization of the Frostbite engine, I don't really see anything else they should take away. As a fan of the previous Battlefront games, and a participant of the recent beta, I would have to say that I hope that BioWare steers clear of the way the new Battlefront handles "power ups" and class diversity at least.
Placing the vehicle and hero tokens on the map as random pickups was a huge mistake (IMO), as it not only destroys any semblance of teamwork, but it also inadvertently punishes those players that are going for objectives. I can't count the number of times that my teammates have just made a b-line to the nearest pick up, ignoring any critical objective; even when another player would get the pick up first, players would just camp out around the pick up spawn point rather than attempting to support the team. Going off of that point, the players that actually attempted to play the game mode, like capturing and holding objectives, were almost penalized for playing correctly. There were several matches were I was first place out of both teams for objectives met, but I never got to fly in an X-Wing, or push the line as an AT-ST or even enjoy the seeming invincibility of Luke/Vader; those players that sat around the token spawn points all game did however.
Diversity among the teams is another thing I would prefer to see BioWare avoid; or rather Battlefront's distinctive lack of it. The classes from the previous games have been eliminated, and aside from vehicles both the Empire and Rebels played exactly the same. Were are my Wookie soldiers or Bothan spys? Were's my Dark Troopers? I know that the current game doesn't have any prequel content (another mistake) but I would have liked to see some of the diversity similar to the droid/separatist faction; playing as a Droideka was awesome in the previous titles.
Some other little tidbits on Battlefront that I disliked:
• AT-AT on rails; I mean why even put that in the game if the player can't pilot it. If you wanted a glorified turret, then why not put players in command of the star destroyer's gun batteries?
• No in-game chat, or party feature. My friends and I had to start a separate party chat in order to talk, and when we entered a match only two of us could buddy up.
• No campaign. While the very first Battlefront didn't have much in the way of story, both it and Battlefront 2 actually had a narrative, and both supported the RISK™-Lite Galactic Conquest mode.
• Split screen. While I appreciate that Battlefront actually has local multiplayer why is it that it can only be offline, can only be two players, and can only be in first person? Battlefront 2 had up to 4 player split screen, with the capability for all players to go online (either as guests or as separate accounts) and supported 3rd person.
New Battlefront looks shiny, but man oh man does it have an extreme lack of content and mechanics compared to the earlier games.

I got ignored by numerous Star Wars fanatics when I brought that up.
Apparently I'm a "Disney fan boy", which is rather ironic.

A pity indeed. But I'm glad they dropped yuuzhan vongs and other fanfiction-tier books out of universe as well, oh dear, this canon did need a good clean-up. Ha, good thing I'm not on SW forum and can get out alive after this.

So basically, Commander Shepard should have been accidentally and ignominiously stepped on by a random Reaper?
I agree. The entire galaxy revolving around a generic footsoldier who for no obvious reason becomes galaxy saving Jesus because virtually everyone populating said galaxy is literally too stupid to live is the worst thing about the original ME trilogy.

I always would have liked to see an XCOM approach to the campaign... but I doubt the majority of the player base would have liked to see their character they spent 4 hours creating die in the first opening salvos of a firefight. ![]()

Feed them to the Chryssalids I say. We need disposable troops anyway, because who'd play XCom on easy where everyone survives anyway?

Also, the stormtroppers should be all male Jango Fett clones.
The EU has been wiped clean for the most part, and I don't recall anything outside of the movies that said that the Empire suddenly decided to stop using clones for their army. Then again, I've never really been a follower of the SW cannon.

I'm starting to think that alliance to the Dark Side adversely affects ones accuracy. Clone troopers fighting alongside the Jedi = pretty good shots. Clone troopers fighting agains the Jedi = stormtroopers.

I don't know about that.

Yeah but Order 66 was the purging of the Light side in essence, so any remaining accuracy bonuses granted by the Light Side buff was used up shooting the Jedi in the back.

Battlefront 2's story mode established that the Empire phased out clones. That's non-canon now, but the idea was carried over into the new canon. By the time the Tarkin novel is set, most stormtroopers are volunteers or conscripts, and the clones are biologically very old.
