The beta for star wars battlefront was super fun but man that game is gonna be expensive. Or maybe I'm cheap.
It feels basic for what is supposed to be a AAA shooter title. No squad mechanics (apart from the buddy) or class system, rather generic weapons, vehicles as powerups or on rails instead of fully controllable map assets (though I suspect this was done to nerf skilled vehicle users from acquiring and using the same vehicle all game).
Gunplay is also pretty lifeless, though the older Battlefronts were no different in that regard and the cooldown system is pretty unorthodox. It honestly feels a bit like like MOH 2010 with lazers. Albiet, it does look and sound really, really good.
Other than that, temporarily becoming Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker was awesome! I finally got to figure out what it was like from the Stormtroopers perspective when they see Skywalker coming at them .. like 'Ooooh S$#@!!'
99% of the time my Stormtrooper just laughed as s/he effortlessly gunned down or blew up hapless digital Mark Hamill, who was being controlled by a baddie that didn't know how to block bullets, use powers or jump.
yeah i never figured out how to pilot those aircrafts. I saw some really good pilots, maybe they were using a controller? I so wanted to do the cable trick with the speeder but I never got the chance, for I crashed or got killed before each time
The cable is a QTE. Press L1>R1 (or whatever the PC equivalent is) when you get close and keep an icon in the center of a bar by moving your sticks or mouse. You don't really need to know how to control the plane, just make sure you don't initiate the QTE next to a hill because the autopilot will plow into it and kill you.
Otherwise, I thought the air vehicles were the simplest they've ever been in any DICE or Battlefront game. They don't even have a seperate pitch, yaw and roll control, you just point the stick left, right, up or down in the direction you want the plane to turn, and the cannons even have auto aim against other planes when they get close enough to the center of your screen (nevermind the missiles).
