You mean the woman he actually loves, as opposed to the other one he marries for political reasons and probably doesn't even like to sleep with all that much, but must because he needs an heir.He doesn't marry Anora, only if you selected the option he does that.
I hate the mistress ending, you are the Hero of Ferelden, you practically alone saved the world, even Morrigan does more than Alistair, and at the end you are the "second wife" of the king
That's right. People seem to forget he doesn't want to be king.
If you force him to become one and then force him to marry Anora, don't complain if he fulfills his duties such as setting you aside. The game offers you many choices, many possible outcomes. Choose the one that suits you best.
Make him remain as a Warden if you care so much for the romance. But remember, his future as a Warden will make him miserable. Just listen to how bitter he sounds as a Warden in Inquisition (which is ironic, considering he got his heart's wish).
Can I have your sliders pls?
My girlfriend actually made her, so I'm not in a position to give, sorry. I'll take it as a compliment and pass it along though ![]()
Alistair has been mislead since he was born about his mother..His mother wasn't a servant but, a warden elf mage. This was covered in "The Calling". Seems good King Meric had a fling with Fiona in the Deep Roads and Alistair was the result. The reason Alistair doesn't have elven features is because when a elf and shem has a child the child looses their elven features.
BTW..My female warden dumps Alistair on Queen Anora to unite Ferelden.. Being a elf she wasn't as serious about the romance as Alistair was.. She was recovering from a blotch wedding after all.
I had the strangest first experience with DAO. I had an ending where everyone lived, everyone was happy, all their personal quests complete, best epilogue ever and I was like... what... where's the drama and pain? How did I manage that? lol so I played again to tried different things, but my first ending will always stand out to me.
That's the classical Bioware formula: here's a game filled with tragedy and drama... unless you're a completionist, in that case, enjoy your perfect golden ending.
I hate that: I'm rather completionist myself when it comes to RPGs, and I always felt that games with potentially tragic stories where doing all the side quests cancel these and reduce the whole plot into to dull power fantasy punish rather than reward my play-style
Which is why DA2 and ME3 are my favorite Bioware games: here perfect runs do deliver the drama and pain promised.

I rather like that ending, especially if you select a mage Warden, because it basically means that there are Two Viviennes in Thedas

His heart's wish was depicted in the comics: what deep down he wanted was to be legitimized by Maric and enjoy the princely lifestyle while Cailan got to deal with the responsibilities of becoming the next king. Basically, what Alistair really wanted was Sebastian's life before his parents got fed up and sent him to the Chantry.
Well,DA:O does given you several endings.. You can die, your female can become queen or stay by Alistair's side as his mistress or she can travel the world with Leliana. My female Elf elects to dump Alistair on Queen Anora's lap, agrees to leave the area so, Alistair won't be tempted to stray and then she departs with her BFF Leliana -they leave after a night of drinking with Shianni. ![]()
My male elf ends up with his love Leliana and they spend a night with Shianni getting drunk before departing to travel the world.
Seems like your normal Hollywood movie ending.
He's a worthless King and an even more worthless Warden. Loghain is a far superior Warden and companion in every possible way. Love the man, 10/10.
As others have said, he didn't know Fiona was his mother. In fact, I would say the guilt is on her side, as she DOES know Alistair is her son and still abuses his hospitality by taking over Redcliffe, kicking out Teagan, and having a foreign national take control. That is not how a good mother responds to her son's hospitality.

As far as Loghain the man is a criminal and in my games he gets his just reward at the business end of my warden's sword.
As a Elf I make sure he pays for his treason, cowardice in the face of the enemy, aiding and abetting slavery, attempted murder, complicity to murder and crimes against humanity.. My warden has no love dovey feelings for a man that wants him/her dead.

Oh a forum troll. Okay then.
He pretended he was a tenderhearted little dork at first, then did a 180 and became an insufferable little jerk to literally everyone who actually cared about him. First he dumped his girlfriend like a moldy dinner roll, in the most humiliating possible way in front of all of their companions because she's barren, then treated his own mother like crap and exiled her. After ten years he still hasn't found another woman, so I hope it was worth it. Failing that, if he stayed a warden he still left her at some point, because ten goddamn years obviously means absolutely nothing to this rat scab.
Plus the only way you could have him not die was to have him pork and knock up another woman... which he does willingly but still won't be with you anymore. To hell with that drama, because kids and gonorrhea are for losers. And he treats his mother like trash.
Seriously, to hell with this guy, he's a limp weenie and twit with zero respect for the opposite sex. Always dead in my game, that's the only way I can possibly like him.
Aaaaaaand that's why you don't make him king. Making him king (+ hardening him) turns him into a giant douchebag to anyone who isn't a nonmage human female Warden. It was totally out of character, and poor writing for him to do that 180.
He's still a Warden in my canon and much happier with Warden-Commander Mahariel.

Teagan is living proof that leadership is bad. Loghain actually lost years when he retired as a General and looks younger than in DAO. Teagan looks like a man ready for retirement. Alistair is on his way down that path too as King in DAI.
Anora is a better ruler and Loghain is a better Grey Warden. My Alistair threw the baby out with the bath water and QQ'd to a pub to live for the end of his days.
inb4 hordes of raging landwhales coming to defend about their husbando
He was and will always be a boring character for smut self inserting females.

Not at all. You could take the shot yourself, which is what I'll do in my female playthrough.
Alistair while charming perhaps in the earlier stages of DAO became a crybaby towards the end. My noble male character who romanced Morrigan ended up taking the throne with Anora. Morrigan was to be his mistress but you all know how that turns out. Eventually he left the throne and followed Morrigan through the mirror and was not seen again.
But how did Alistair react to to that in DAI? "he betrayed me, sent me into exile... walks a dark path.. a blah blah blah."
Really? these last 10 years must have been hard on Alistair. As I recall Alistair did not want the throne so to keep noble blood on the throne, my hero stepped up. Loghain was killed so not sure what pissed off Alistair there. And he was not banished either. Unless Anora did that after her new husband/king fled the palace with the witch.
I was hoping we would encounter drunk Alistair in DAI like we did in DA2's The Hanged Man. I think it would have been interesting if Alistair was Hawke's Warden friend and she realizes he was the drunk from the tavern... heh
But yeah. Alistair is the one that is messed up. Falling in love with your female character then dumping her for the throne if she isn't of noble background.
That's... not really how picking romances works for most people.
That's why I romanced her. Alistair's romance has too much BS in it for me near the end.
And even if you get the one into the sunset ending (both of you grey wardens) they screw that over in Inquisition with the fade BS where you sacrifice him or Hawke. That's too much BS.
Otherwise you're stuck playing one race or being a mistress (and being royalty comes with its own heaps of issues).
You mean the woman he actually loves, as opposed to the other one he marries for political reasons and probably doesn't even like to sleep with all that much, but must because he needs an heir.
If you want him all for yourself, don't make him king. If he's king, he has to do the things associated with Ferelden's kingship, which includes securing the continuance of the bloodline and stabilizing the realm with a political marriage if necessary.
This would be good advice except now we have Into the Abyss where's if you if you pick that you now have the choose between letting him die or letting Hawke die. That's not a good choice either.
Since we are talking about Alistair.. He is weak kneed and not a very good warden. He starts his crying early in the game "poor me" raised in the Chantry blah, blah. I lost everything when the wardens died blah,blah.. IMHO he used the PC warden to do his work..He was the senior warden as Morrigan pointed out.
He's not the brightest light bulb in the building either. He fully doesn't understand the situation is dire yet, he's all gung ho and Full speed ahead!
No wonder my female elf dump him on Andora.

If he truly loves the warden, he can refuse be king and run away with her, you seem romantic save the world and give the credit to the king?
Is the same with Dorian and Cassandra
Cass prefer being divine than be with the "man she loves"
The same with Dorian, but with Dorian is all the game "Oh, we should hide our homosexuality"
