This thread really filters out all the overly attached girlfriends and men with confidence issues in the fandom.

Also, I can't grasp how people get the idea that Alistair is a bad ruler. His arch in DA:I is literally identical to Anora. An arch that lasts maybe 5 minutes. 5 minutes.

Sheesh, 6 years and two games later, you're still beating that dead horse, TBE.  Here, I'll even post a singalong for you if the words are too hard to remember.

Of course it was! What baffles me is that the writers don't want to bring back this character yet keep making new plot threads involving the Warden. They could have made a much simpler excuse: "The Warden Commander of Ferelden is in the Deep Roads, busy killing as many Darkspawn as possible so that no horde reaches the surface and joins Corypheus, you're welcome by the way": the character is offscreen, and no new plot thread is involved: it's just the Warden doing ordinary Warden business.

One new plot thread. Also the WC killing darkspawn in the deeproads wouldn't stop a horde from reaching Cory. That'd be an absurd excuse you can't stop a swarm with a handful of people. It'd make far more sense if he/she went after the intelligent darkspawn remnants to get information or tried to see if there were more like the Architect.

Yeah that cure to keep that offscreen that we haven't seen the results of yet? That was to give them something to do (much like sending Hawke to Weissaput).

 Poor Hawke. Well I don't have any single Hawkes so that won't work for me :X Plus even in that case there's still the siblings left alive.

Nah makes sense Dorian would see slavery as acceptable if he grew around it. It's sadly natural.

It's almost like growing up surrounded by something seen as normal makes you see it as normal. It's not like most if not all of us would be any different in his shoes.

Nobody. Else this thread wouldn't have existed since they still didn't get over it.

My Alistair was executed at the landsmeet, while the noble patriot Loghain Mac Tir saved the world from the blight. Does that make you feel better? ;)

I've heard nothing but good things about Sera in tresspasser.
Unless you mean "Changed their life single handedly and have them wrapped around your little finger" as a character arc. I love how vivienne doesn't really change much.

Sera was the only party member I didn't have full friendship with, and consequently got no scene with in Trespasser, so I admit she may have improved, as the person below says. But no, that's not at all what I consider a character arc. That's not my problem with Vivienne. She doesn't overcome anything or evolve as a person in any way. Josephine doesn't really either, unfortunately.

She stops being jugdemental in Trespasser. She even tries to be nice to a Lavellan that romanced Solas or after she finds out about the truth of the elven gods. I think all companions were good by the end of the day, even if some had a shaky start. Minus Vivienne that is, she changed nothing and is the only one causing trouble instead of doing something honorable or productive.

Sends Warden off to find a cure. Comes back after the game, no information about cure.

Sends Hawke off to Weisshaupt. Comes back after the game, no information about Wardens.

Hmm...

Anyway, yeah, poor Hawke. Though out of my forever alone protagonists, Hawke bothers me the least. She is enough of an awesome person on her own, whereas I felt like the Inquisitor wasn't as fulfilling or interesting without a romance. But yes, she does have Bethany alive.

Yeah, I can see Dorian thinking that way. I'm just... I don't know. A small part of it rubs me the wrong way.

Do they HAVE to change?
Characters in games change because you change them. Isn't that unrealistic?

That'd be an absurd excuse you can't stop a swarm with a handful of people

Not a handful of people:

The Grey Wardens in Ferelden were two hundreds at their peak, the plot of Awakening was explicitly about replenishing the Wardens' ranks and the Warden had the military of the Arling of Amaranthine under their commands.

There would be at the very least several hundreds if not thousands of troops, and the few Darkspawn fought in Inquisition and the Descent could then be presented as the fraction of the horde that trickled through. So long as the story doesn't hint at the Warden finding something unexpected, there's no need to demand additional details or explanations.

It would be similar to the Secret Rendez-Vous quest in Dragon Age 2: we learn here that in the aftermath of the Bight, the Amaranthine fleet was rebuilt and became too much a competitor to the Marcher traders to the point that some influential people in Kirkwall were blackmailing raiders to target Amaranthine ships exclusively: it's rather obvious that the Warden-Commander was involved, and the shady lady giving Hawke that quest may very well have been on the Commander's payroll, but no detail is ever given whatsoever and no one ever demanded in depth explanations about it.

Why? Because when one is the ruling lord of a coastal province whose main city is a trading port overseeing its merchant fleet being rebuilt is part of the job. Sure, there's a potentially interesting story about trading wars turning bloody, but no one ever asked for watching the Warden discussing allocating funds to the fleet or visiting Amaranthine's shipyards or sending an agent to Kirkwall who woud eventually use Hawke as a proxy, because there's nothing mysterious or surprising about it.

That's because unlike most of the other DA companions, Vivienne isn't a damaged personality with any of the assortment of abandonment, attachment, intimacy, trust, and/or other emotional issues that the rest do. She doesn't need you to function or evolve as a person; she's fine as she is. She might be a egotist and a megalomaniac, but she's dependent on no-one.

Same... well, i let Alistair live on as a drunk. But i still liked him, just thought he was wrong in that moment. Id like to see drunk Alistair make a comeback all sober and heroic, maybe living on the fringes of society jumping into to save the day like batman.

The wardens are not a large order. The game tells you this. Over and over and over and over. The darkspawn in comparison are a horde. Broodmothers pop out 1k children in their lifespawn. Now the only way the wardens are stopping the darkspawn from reaching the surface is if they can beat darkspawn numbers. That is not happening.

Not to mention there are hordes of entrances to the surface from the deeproads it's impossible for the warden to cover them all. The darkspawn would come up from somewhere. DAO tells you this is impossible when you ask Alistair why don't they just go to the deep roads and kill the archedemons.

I can't believe people are STILL indulging this troll after six years. TBE must have made over a hundred threads on how much she hates Alistair, which pretty much say the exact same thing in every single one.

Yeah, if someone wasn't still salty about Alistair six years on, what would we have to talk about between now and the announcement of DA4? It's not like we can expect someone to turn up and claim that Cassandra looks like a dude every day.
